Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had heard a lot of good things about this venue and they all rang true. We had lunch and our food was excellent, the service attentive and engaged with each customer. Nothing was too much trouble. Lunch with a view over the Great Lake and snug against the elements.

We stayed overnight and ate at the hotel. Everything in the room was excellent, clean crisp white sheets and the bed was so comfortable and the room was spotless. The breakfast supplies were very generous. The staff at the hotel were so friendly and helpful. Our meal in the dining room was delicious. Good choices from the menu in the restaurant. We loved the experience of staying in the middle of the Tasmania, it seems remote but is very easy to access by a good safe road. Thoroughly recommend.

This is a very good hotel to stay at, it’s very clean, large rooms and very friendly and helpful staff. Great view over the lake. Miena is a fishing village, not close to anything. Also the food was excellent in the bar. Large serves of very tasty food.

Called in for lunch and the obliging and helpful staff allowed us to have a pre-coffee in the annex nearest the lake for its great views and relaxing lounge chairs. This was despite that room being totally booked out and in the process of being set up for a large group coming in. Great customer service and appreciated by us. We then moved to the dining room for lunch where we had a pizza and pork belly entree. The pizza was adequate and the pork belly was enough for my wife to eat as a main. In all, a very satisfactory experience with great views that we rated just below excellent due to slow service. Our impression was that there might be some understaffing in the kitchen. We suggest that if you are in a hurry, make that very clear as otherwise you will experience a very

The hotel has new "donga" style rooms that are contemporarily styled and clean. Unfortunately, they placed two water tanks and a shed in front of the window in our room that completely blocked out the view of the lake. The rooms aren't air conditioned, but they have electric blankets and an effective Dyson style fan/ heater. The window was difficult to open and close and didn't have a fly screen, which is a must here

Called in for lunch today and had a lovely welcome from Nicki. She was very friendly, helpful and efficient. Lovely setting for the hotel and we were not rushed out as can occasionally happen in some establishments. The food was excellent too.

This motel has undergone a really nice renovation. It’s an older style place but they have taken the very ordinary rooms and made them as nice as could possibly be done. The bed was very comfortable and the bed linen luxurious. Self-make breakfast was provided and there was a lovely little table to sit at whilst having it. The decor is really nice with cool prints and special touches including unique tin mugs and camping plates and really upmarket teas /coffee and generosity of breakfast sachets, fresh bread. The bathroom is small but has also had a remarkably good makeover. I stayed here before this renovation and found it acceptable then, so this was a lovely surprise. Couple points off for weird staff but I guess this is a quirky part of the country and we were just

I appreciate the difficulty staffing remote locations, its not easy, but theres some things that just aren't ever that great. Pizza was made of a large round focaccia bread with salami and cheese on top $24 - totally not what you'd expect and not good. If you advertise pizza, at least use a pizza base. Our friends meals all took ages with the last one to come out after everyone else had finished at 1.5 hours after it was ordered. The staff were great, polite and doing their best in a bad situation. It's a shame, but I wouldn't go there for the food. Unless you just want chips - they were great.,

Another great long weekend at the Great Lake Hotel, Mate and I up there chasing the trout (unfortunately the weather wasn’t so kind!) Always love staying here…the owner Jason and his team treat us like friends, not clients. What a great set up they have here, with a well stocked store (read cafe, variety store, fishing tackle and take away food and of course fuel) Always start the day with a cappuccino! So back to the hotel. We stayed in a two bed en-suite room which was neat, well appointed and perfect for a couple of mates. Meals each night were great, an extensive menu to satisfy all tastes…..of course pre dinner beers at the bar beside the roaring log fire on winters days. Special shout out to Fiona and Paige who looked after us each night. Wait….there’s more …. They run

We called in for lunch. On the waiter's recommendation my wife and I ordered the seafood chowder. We were quite sorry we did. Nothing about it reminded us even remotely of chowder. It was more like some sort of curry broth with diced vegetables. The only seafood present appeared to be a couple of lonely prawns, two or three paper thin squid rings (I think) and some other nondescript fish-like material. The dish completely lacked the creamy integration and texture of a chowder. Our grandson ordered wallaby patties which were full of bread and undercooked. The "garlic baby potatoes" were inedible. Only two of the five meals we ordered were in any way acceptable and I felt bad that our son had spent something like $100 for such a poor outcome.

Dear Allan, Thank you for the honest review we are sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us. The chowder is truly unique with all of the flavours and ingredients listed on the menu for that reason. Whilst we are sorry you didn’t like it, we get great feedback on it and understand it will not be for everyone. Regards Great Lake Hotel
