Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I want to be fair so will talk in categories. The hotel is very welcoming and has a nice vibe to it. The staff I think are exceptional. The room we had was fabulous….modern, great king bed…..everything in the room was terrific. Extremely happy. BUT very disappointed with our meals for dinner. I had read their website prior to booking, which influenced our idea to book so was terribly disappointed with the quality of the food AND the menu online was different to menu in-house. Wine list is terrific, service was amazing but the food not so. I am not sure if chefs have changed but disappointing, I would still return as a great destination.

Stopped here with our camper van by accident after running out of daylight. The staff, food and facilities were all amazing. They had powered sites available and it was really well priced. We really enjoyed our short stay (even as an emergency stop).

"My recent visit to the Great Lakes Hotel in Tasmania was truly delightful. Fran, with her charming pigtails and her little pink shirt, provided impeccable service. She recommended a fantastic Tassie Chardonnay that perfectly complemented the cozy ambiance around the fireplace. Although it wasn't snowing during my visit, the warmth and hospitality at this establishment made it feel like a winter wonderland. I highly recommend the Great Lakes Hotel for its excellent service, welcoming atmosphere, and great wine selection."

We stayed here overnight including drinks and dinner at the restaurant. Fast easy check-in, comfortable room and ample parking, good prices for drinks and dinner was excellent. Part of the joy of staying at a place like this is meeting the locals - thanks Ben for the trout, loved talking to you Toni and Phil. And staff behind the bar and in the restaurant - thanks Nicki and Deirdre. Highly recommend

I have never experienced such an aggressively rude bar attendant as we did with Danni tonight. We dont care how many hours you have worked ( you told us if we worked as many hours as you we would be stressed too ) clearly you need to work less or not at all to give good service. All we wanted was a bundy with coke that isn't flat, not much to ask. So rude and not the type of service I expect anywhere especially at the Great Lake.

We were informed a few days before arriving that the restaurant will be closed on the day we were there and was told of other places we could eat which was nice to be informed. When arriving the whole Hotel was closed so checking was difficult, finally checked in after paying twice as they didn't have a record of our payment. Our room was very nice and new but very cold as only had a small fan heater. Our room also had no water, after 1.5hrs of waiting with no commutation from management, when it would be fixed we left. It look like we were the only people there. Probably wouldn't recommend it in winter. Very disappointing

We loved the facilities, but mainly the food, all the plates we tasted were fantastic: wallaby, the soup, the nachos... everything. It was a good surprise as we were looking for a place to eat something quickly and we discovered an amazing place.

We didn't stay here but we did stop for some food and coffee. This was a mid morning stop after driving from Hobart to check out the Great Lakes, enroute to Strahan.   The old style pub had a fantastic wood fire going so we sat down and enjoyed a hot coffee ☕️  and a bite to eat for a break. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. It's a beautiful pub and a great place to put up your feet for a welcome break.

Average food and a long wait… We arrived and looked at the menu. Prices are expensive but I had expected to pay a premium for the “remoteness” (although nowhere is far in Tasmania). A large group was present but we were advised that they had all eaten. So we ordered. And then waited. And waited. Checked with the waiter a few times as we noticed orders coming out from people that had ordered after us. Was then told it was due to the large group (who had all clearly long finished their meals). My lamb was fatty, a small portion for the 20+ pricetag and average. The sauce on the plate had obviously been added hours earlier and formed a crust. My daughters burger was ok, but the onion rings she had been looking forward to were scarce. There were two on her plate. When we went to pay - the staff disappeared! Two staff behind the bar muddled about cleaning glasses, while the one at the register put her head down with paperwork. Eventually we were served. Won’t be back. It’s a pity as the location is lovely. The food and service were far below average.

Didn’t know what to expect given the very remote location and the fact we were only staying overnight as a transit stop between Strahan and Hobart… but we were very, very impressed. The accommodation was well appointed and super comfortable…the king sized bed was cloud like. Regarding the bar and restaurant… the beer was ice cold, the food delicious, and best of all was the attentive and authentic hospitality shown by the staff, particularly the young lady who helped us check in to our room and then went on to be an amazing restaurant host. Was so impressed that I’d be inclined to make this a destination in future visits… not just a convenient stop over. 5 stars. Highly recommended.
