Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent 3 nights at Miena so my husband could go fly fishing and Great Lakes Hotel was the best situated property. Despite an underwhelming external appearance our king Lakeview room was simple, spotlessly clean, comfy king bed with superior linen and heated blanket and Dyson room heater and the shower was hot with good pressure. The bar always had a roaring fire and the food in the restaurant was very good indeed and the staff very pleasant. The on-site shop had all the basics. The downside was our room happened to have an interconnecting door to potentially make it a family room but the acoustic insulation was non existent! There were only 2 coat hooks and no hangers or other hooks. A heated towel rail would have meant you could dry your towels after a shower. The hotel was an easy drive from Hobart. The day we didn’t fish we drove to Derwent Bridge to The Wall in the Wilderness (sensational) and walked Lake St Clair (fabulous) Trout fishing was successful (not booked thro hotel) overall a good experience but could be better with a few simple improvements.

I want to be fair so will talk in categories. The hotel is very welcoming and has a nice vibe to it. The staff I think are exceptional. The room we had was fabulous….modern, great king bed…..everything in the room was terrific. Extremely happy. BUT very disappointed with our meals for dinner. I had read their website prior to booking, which influenced our idea to book so was terribly disappointed with the quality of the food AND the menu online was different to menu in-house. Wine list is terrific, service was amazing but the food not so. I am not sure if chefs have changed but disappointing, I would still return as a great destination.

We stopped here for 1 night on the 20th Dec 2023, $10 unpowered site, they do have approx 5 powered sites all behind the Hotel. Pay at the hotel.
Able to use hotels showers & toilets
The unpowered section had large pieces of blue metal which was awkward to walk on.
Otherwise ok for a short stopover.

We arrived on our bicycles and stayed one night in a cabin and another night camping. The hot rain showers are amazing and the amenities are always impeccably clean. The cabin was tastefully decorated and staff was always keen to assist. The only gripe we had was the pretty loud condenser (?) noise that went all night while we were in the cabin. Think it might have been the commercial fridge near our room. The next night we camped further away from it and had ear plugs on then it wasn’t a problem. We will not hesitate to stay again especially camping - at $10 a night with access to showers and toilets I don’t think you can find better value anywhere else.

Very warm welcome into lovely bar and restaurant with open fire. Good food and wine at good prices too. Large range of Tasmanian wines and spirits, a tasting of which we very much enjoyed with the owner!

Declan (bar) and Deirdre (restaurant) were just great. Snow came this morning as Deirdre predicted but the sun is shining now on this beautiful place.

If you’re in a campervan the sites are in the car park but you get power toilets laundry and showers with towels and toiletries for 20 dollars. And dinner is 50 metres away.

Stayed here two nights for fly fishing trout in the area with a local guide. Weather was miserable, but the experience was fun. The beautiful, small motel room was well-quipped with items for a continental breakfast (toast, cereal, milk, coffee, etc.) and the restaurant was great. Very friendly and accommodating staff. There is a small convenience store on the property with everything you need for RV or camping. We highly recommend this spot!

At 250 dollars a night,(booked direct) this accommodation is totally overpriced. There was no internet in the room, The room was very small, a large ( very comfortable and good linen)bed there was about a metre each side , good view of the lake. The breakfast is humble, toast and cereal. Look elsewhere , or go to online sites and pay 100 less. Restaurant: good wine list, ate pizza, (frozen base, and too much cheddar)

We stayed a couple of nights in a Family Room, a two bedroom self contained unit at the Great Lake Hotel (Miena Village) in Tasmania's Central Highlands.
It's a great base for exploring the area, with easy access to the Western Lakes, Central Plateau, and endless fishing and hiking opportunities.
The unit we stayed in had two bedrooms,a kitchenette and lounge / dining area, spacious bathroom, and views across to the Great Lake.
The hotel offers meals if you don't want to cook, and there's a petrol station and a small general store on site too.
I'd happily stay here again when in the Central Highlands.

After a long drive from Freycinet Peninsula, we opted on the spur of the moment to park our campervan on one of the power sites adjacent to the Great Lakes Hotel.

A mere $20 for the powered site and access to hot, hot showers (showers included in the price). Toilets are only available in the hotel so you do need to be self sufficient.

We decided to eat at the Great Lakes Hotel, again spur of the moment. The ambience, the quality of the food, the roaring fire and the great service (Renee and Truman) left a lasting impact.

Glad that we stumbled onto it, otherwise it would have meant a long drive to Deloraine!

We arrived at noon on Christmas Day, the hut was packed, the dining room looked nice. We were immediately turned away in a rather unfriendly manner, and the mention of a booking at least resulted in us being given a key with the number "seven" by the "fairy godmother", who was constantly being given the finger by her colleague. The question of whether we could reserve a table for that evening was met with a weary smile, and whether it was possible somewhere else or whether they could prepare something for us - mind you, the restaurant was very busy - was met with a reference to breakfast in the room. This consisted of two slices of toast, jam and a small packet of cornflakes. The room itself was a very nice tin hut with a direct connection to the neighbouring one. We walked around the special area, showered and drove on. Expensive shower for 300 AUD.
