We spent 4 nights here in an upstairs room. The room was quiet, spacious and comfortable - perfectly suited to a longer stay. Breakfasts were delicious as were the cakes provided in our room when we returned form a day's outing. Annabel, the main host,...More

I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough. I was travelling with my 90 year old uncle who has lived in the UK for over 50 years and had never been to Tasmania. He lived Woolmers and Brickendon and then we arrived at Racecourse Inn to...More

We spent 3 nights in this delightful B & B - 29/3/18 - 1/4/18. After 3 weeks travelling around Tasmania this was, without a doubt, the best place we stayed. The historic inn is beautifully and comfortably decorated with many extra thoughtful touches - hot...More

What a find this was. An historic house, nicely refurbished with many sensitively thought through touches. We stayed in Room 1 which has some period furnishings but more importantly had everything we wanted for a night’s stay and left us wishing we were staying longer....More

About
Description
The Racecourse Inn offers stylish accommodation, together with warm, country hospitality in a heritage listed Georgian former coaching inn, in historic Longford, one of Tasmania's oldest villages. This More beautifully restored building was originally named the “Northern Hotel”, and subsequently renamed "The Racecourse Hotel" after the Longford racecourse, Australia’s oldest continuously operating track. Our five en-suite guest rooms have been individually furnished with period antiques with the comfort of the traveller in mind. Upstairs are three delightful attic rooms with dormer windows and sloping timber-lined ceilings, and downstairs are two generous bedrooms, including a spacious heritage suite with a king-sized bed, open fireplace and double spa. Your accommodation includes a full cooked and continental breakfast featuring tasty locally sourced Tasmanian ingredients, many of them home-grown and hand picked daily from our kitchen garden and orchard. We also have a fully licenced bar and lounge area. With roses trailing over its convict-made brickwork, the picture-perfect two-storey Racecourse Inn (built 1860), is steeped in the history of Longford, itself one of the first villages settled in Tasmania. For those interested in history, the building itself contains one of only three barrel vaulted ceilings in Tasmania, and is furnished with period antiques. Our beautiful accommodation is only minutes away from Longford’s main tourist attractions, including The World Heritage listed Brickendon Farm Village and Woolmers Estate, home to the National Rose Garden. Other historic buildings in the district include Entally House, Franklin House and Clarendon House. We’re only a short drive from the picturesque Tamar Valley wine route, and some of the best fly fishing lakes and streams in Australia, including Brumby’s Creek, The Macquarie and South Esk Rivers. The Racecourse Inn is the perfect base for touring Northern Tasmania; only 15 minutes from Launceston airport, 20 minutes from the centre of Launceston and one hour from the Spirit of Tasmania terminal in Devonport.
