Believe the reviews. This place is absolutely magnificent. The island itself is unlike anywhere else in Australia - wild, rugged, green, untouched, pristine - with amazing beaches, cliffs and headlands, rolling hills.. The main town of Currie has everything you need - even a great little op shop, if second hand clothes is your thing (definitely my thing!). Close to the accommodation are Seal Rocks and the amazing calcified forest, which are both must-sees. We also took a drive to the King Island Dairy which we really enjoyed, and the nearby Porky Beach was amazing. All the beaches are gorgeous, and you will most likely have them to yourself. And the accommodation is a destination in itself. Set between sloping hills, leading down to the ocean, you will see nobody else - except multitudes of beautiful wallabies. Upon our approach to the lodge on our first day, we were met with a welcoming wave - and we felt like we had arrived home. A tour of the lodge followed, and I honestly could not believe how beautiful it was. I don't want to spoil the surprise by detailing too much, but lets just say you will absolutely love it. It was a real haven, and we would have been happy spending all day inside, but the island is definitely worth exploring. Needless to say, it was heaven to return to the lodge at the end of our adventures, run the bath (omg, this bath could be the best in Australia), pour a gin, put on the fire, and watch the wallabies come out at sunset. There is nothing more you could want, as every detail has been well thought out - even the toiletries are hand-made on the island (and available for purchase - which I did thank you!). Our only regret is not adding on the paddock to plate package, but we will do this the next time we stay. And our hosts, Nick and Aaron, are perfect. They are so warm and lovely, and we could have chatted to them for hours, but they know that most guests are at the location for a relax and recharge, and thus, they appear and disappear with a fine balance, showing experience beyond their hosting years. The only thing to note is the amount of wallabies (and wild Turkeys, Peacocks) on the island, and as it is mostly untouched (and unfenced), they tend to jump (or walk) across the roads as they please. So we drove very slowly around the island so as not to run over any of the beautiful animals. If you are after a complete escape, but one that incorporates luxury and beautiful hosts, then you must add this place to your bucket list.

Property's Favourite Review
It has taken me a week to write this review, wanting to ensure that what I write does justice to the exceptional experience that my husband and I had on our long weekend at Kittawa Lodge. Aaron and Nick are exceptional hosts. From my first phone call with Aaron, through to the numerous emails to reschedule due to COVID border closures, nothing was too much trouble. Aaron and Nick are people people and you can feel that they genuinely care about their guests and enjoy sharing their beautiful part of the world with them. We arrived at Kittawa to be greeted by Nick and a platter of beautiful island produce waiting for us for afternoon tea. As Nick showed us around our beautifully appointed lodge, we kept being drawn back to the exceptional view from our kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bathroom (and the family of wallabies watching us through the windows). The bathroom and bathtub deserves their own mention - beautifully appointed with a stunning view! After being assured by Nick that the wallabies wouldn’t fat shame me while watching me have a shower, it was incredibly liberating to enjoy a hot shower, taking in the incredible view of the ocean. The Lodge has been thoughtfully designed to make the most of the natural environment and Aaron and Nick have taken great care to ensure that they have a low environmental impact whilst harnessing the great things that King Island and Tasmania have to offer. Their attention to detail in every aspect did not go unnoticed (or unappreciated). From gumboots, jackets, robes, slippers and handwritten notes, through to their specially chosen fridge and pantry inclusions that were thoughtfully selected and prepared for the cinnamon hater in our relationship (ie me), it was clear that Aaron and Nick put a lot of time, effort and thought into every aspect of our stay. All of the little things (including the water being topped up every day in the Nespresso machine) add up to one great big positive impression! I would highly recommend the Paddock to Plate package - glorious King Island produce! Fresh lobsters (crayfish), eye fillet steak, wild picked herbs, free range eggs, bacon and cheeses. A perfect picnic lunch to take on our northern Island adventure. Nick’s sticky date pudding definitely deserves it’s own mention - delicious!!! We also had Aaron come and cook dinner for us in our Lodge. Not only was the food delicious (I’m still thinking about that gnocchi!) but Aaron was an entertaining host, sharing information with us about the island, from a local’s perspective. The fact that we didn’t have to get dressed up or drive anywhere for it, made it even better! My husband was also very appreciative of Aaron’s patient fire making training…… it’s all about the kindling. ;-) So what was bad about Kittawa Lodge? Leaving it. Guys, we’ll be back.

Room Tip: Go during winter - the Island is less “touristy” and the weather still mild enough to go out...

Sometimes magic happens in your life. For us it was the 5 days spent at Kittawa Lodge. Our lodge was positioned perfectly, nestled between gentle sloping hills, surrounded by wallabies with joeys in their pouch and views of the wild southern ocean. Our hosts Nick and Aaron, had designed the lodge and their careful planning, attention to detail ensured a very comfortable stay. We chose the paddock to plate package and dined on fresh crayfish, King Island cheeses, beef and lamb, all prepared to perfection. King Island is beautiful as it remains relatively untouched by civilisation and there is a sense of homecoming. Wild, windy and untamed, as we walked along the cliff tops, with the ocean on one side and untouched landscape on the other. As we flew in from Brisbane, we had to overnight in Launceston. We stayed at Stillwater, which is part of the Kittawa family and that’s how we were treated as family. There is nothing warmer or more comforting than the sense of coming home.

Kittawa lodge is your home away from home. From the moment we set foot into this special place we felt at home and didn’t want to leave. Aaron & Nick are perfect hosts and make sure your stay will be memorable. The location is perfect, whether you want to just stay in with a book, go for a walk, watch the sunset or spend the day exploring King Island. And the lodge itself has all the right amenities and that luxury feel (and not just the bath tub with a view)
