My husband & I celebrated our 25th Wedding anniversary this year, and spent 3 nights here to celebrate.
We were not sure what to expect, regarding King Island in general, & the first wonderful experience was arriving at Portside Links. The airport is just north of Currie (KIs main town) and 'Portside' was only about 30-40 drive away.
Portside Links consist of 2, 1 bedroom units, joined by carports, 1 for each unit. We stayed in unit 2, and just loved it from the second we walked in. It was bright and airy, not too small, and being on a slight hill, had great views on both sides. It also had original artwork on the walls, that was really good!
With such a great size kitchen, we made our own breakfasts every day. Lunch & dinner was different due to the quality of the most amazing food available all over the Island.
Every evening, some of the local wildlife would come out, and they would graze almost right up to door step! While we didn't see any Fairy (Little) penquins come that close, the wallabies were not shy. We shared a beer, and some grapes with the ones game enough to come right up.
The beach next to the harbour, was just a short walk away, & we had it to ourselves. We did not see one other person as we walked the entire length, and it was glorious.
We ate at 'Wild harvest' & found ourselves eating at 'Kings Cuisine' at the Grassy pub, twice! Both of these restaurants are close by in the Grassy township.
The King Island Dairy, we went to 4 times I think. We bought a lot of cheese and kept eating it, which was why we had to keep going back! Again, within 30-40 min from Portside. In fact, we covered the whole island in one day, on our own self guided world wind tour. It was wonderful to get back to our unit, and collapse into the wonderfully comfortable queen size bed waiting for us. We have rarely slept so well.
We were disappointed we didn't discover the Art Gallery & coffee shop right next to us until it was time to leave. I couldn't believe it! Don't make that mistake, it was lovely.
It was such a wonderful stay, but far to short. We will be making another trip I think!
Thank you so much!

The Holiday units have a clean modern design with excellent functionality and a keen flair for interior design.

A well designed kitchen and meals area ensures that those wishing to self cater are amply provided for.

Double glazing and excellent heating provides a cosy retreat for brisk winter nights.

Barbecue facilities and outdoor area are great for alfresco dining.

Both the units are completely self-contained, but their close proximity can lend them to couples wishing to holiday together.

The gallery is a delightful addition celebrating local artists of the island, with light snacks and coffee.

The units are within walking distance of a beautiful secluded beach and penguin colonies.

Just as well we called into the IGA for some staples on the way from the airport because there was no where to get a quick bite here. I booked this because it had a gallery and cafe on the property and looked forward to eating at least breakfast there. But, NO the owners were away as soon as they handed us the keys and it was closed!
The unit was beautifully decorated, and really well appointed except the bathroom it has no door and as the shower is clear glass is open to the bedroom. The toilet is also in this space so getting up in the night is not on, as it would wake your partner! No hand towel or bathmat also.
The views were exceptional and we walked down to see the penguin colony, what a treat! If you wanted to go here I would suggest only going on the weekend as at the beginning of the week nothing is opened.

My partner and I stayed at the Portside Links for 4 nights. It was a wonderful base to explore the eastern and southern parts of King Island, with great views of Grassy Harbour. The apartments have a spacious layout, with just the right amount of room for two. The artworks of Marilyn (one of the owners) adorn the walls. If you get a chance, you really should visit the Portside Gallery - open Sunday and Monday at the time of writing - for fabulous art, locally made crafts and delicious cakes and coffee! Both Ken and Marilyn are very hospitable, making you feel like old friends. Wildlife abounds - especially wallabies and possums, and the apartments are within walking distance to the fairy penguin rookery. We'll definitely be back!

If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. Very comfortable with great kitchen set up and beautiful views. Could hear the Penguins calling and if you love Wallabies, you'll see plenty of them. Set on the grounds of an old golf course, you have rolling hills on one side and a view of Bass Strait on the other. The beach is a little difficult to access and Grassy Harbour is rather industrial. On Sundays a cargo ship arrives to deliver supplies and transport cattle off King Island. Be extremely careful on the roads, especially at dusk and dawn, so much wildlife!

Portside Links is a beautiful, modern, well-appointed cottagey type place overlooking the ocean. It has everything you need to enjoy your time on King island and the scenery is lovely wherever you open the blinds. The bed is comfy and the gas heater a welcome relief in winter!
Portside Links is located right above the harbour where the Penguins sneak in and you can hear them calling out to one another. Loved that! Actually, the wildlife all over this little island is amazing. The famous King Island cheese factory is only about 30kms away, and there's plenty to do and see on the way. Grassy in winter is very quiet and not much was available re eating out (nothing in Grassy on the Sunday or Monday) but we guessed that might be the case and grabbed some food as we came through Currie, and let's face it, once you've hit the cheese shop, who really cares?! Ha!
Would stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it if you're heading to King Island!

This was a terrific property better than a 'home away from home'. Very private and while not close to town (approx 25 minute drive) it was so comfortable & welcoming that the drive did not matter. Would definitely recommend for couples looking for a perfect
stay in a lovely spot.
