Have stayed often over many years. The overall food standard declined on the last couple of visits after it was taken over by RACT, notably the breakfast buffet (now replaced by an a la carte, B&B type menu - nothing earth-shattering).

Rooms are large and comfortable, polished wooden floors with an ‘airlock’ entry which is redundant in summer but great in winter. A very comfy spa bath and separate shower. Wildlife rummages around after dusk and in the early morning, so you’ll see wallabies and wombats close up.

The major complaint was in the restaurant, where we had pre-booked for 8pm when booking the room. There are few options in the area, the waterfront Edge of the Bay restaurant takes outside diners, and the Iluka pub bistro is cheerful Tassie pub food, scallop pies etc. When we sat down we noticed intrusive doof doof music playing. This gradually got on our nerves enough to complain to several staff members, but we were told it was a centralised playlist from the RACT head office, and could not be turned off/fast forwarded/replaced. The restaurant was full of mainly middle aged diners, but the music sounded like an amateur version of a teenage boy learning Ministry of Sound numbers, by enforced repetition.

It was bad enough that I would have left the restaurant if there was another viable option nearby.

Ironically, returning 3 days later for breakfast in the adjacent Richardson’s cafe, there was a mellow jazz track playing, much more pleasant background Muzak.

Freycinet lodge is a peaceful place to say. Cabins are well appointed and set in the National Park. Wildlife can be seen from the balcony ad appear to have no fear of humans. Stayed in two rooms during my stay (by my choice). The first night was a single room cabin. Nights two and three a two room family cabin. I was travelling with my elderly parents and the once room cabin was large enough for three adults. However the two room cabin just offered the extra room to relax as will as privacy. Breakfast which is included was great. Excellent choice of food included fruit and pastry platters and varied full cooked breakfast.. No longer buffet style due to Covid. Also had dinner at Richardson's Bistro. Again great choice and relaxed surroundings. The entire report is well presented and mindful of the environment. The staff from reception to the restaurants and were friendly and when out of their way to make out stay memorable. Housekeeping is limited at this time however the rooms were spotless, A bit thank you to all a Freycinet Lodge for a great stay.

3 day , 2 night stay here, first time, very impressed we stayed in Pavilion #64 , it included open mini bar, out door bath (fantastic) King sized separate Bedroom. These units are well appointed and very comfortable and nice views thorough some open trees to the water. Good shower pressure with great size separate shower room that has privacy views also to the water. We found the outdoor bath tub at this unit to be be very private , so no problem with unclothed bathing .Bonus for us ..hand feeding the possums that come out to play at night...very friendly little guys..we were there at end of winter , so no bugs to speak of .Food overall was excellent, included in out rate was Breakfast , either continental delivered to room, or full cooked in the restaurant , we chose the latter , excellent,. The only downfall on the food front , we ordered a pizza from the bistro one afternoon , tasted and looked liked a grocery store frozen piazza, which was sad as wood fired pizza would be a great offering. We chose also to order in room for dinner both nights ( a service provided to the Coastal Pavilions only I believe ) again great food and reasonable prices.
Overall a great place for some adult time..peaceful , restful in the heart of beautiful Freycinet National Park

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in late February. We had a one room cabin (#5) which was like a rustic cottage with a small deck. It was the lowest room category which was priced reasonably. It felt pretty private, however, it was close to the restaurant. This was only an issue on our last night when there was a wedding party dining outside on the restaurant patio.
The breakfast was included and in addition to a buffet there was an a la carte menu. The food was very good.
We dined at The Bay restaurant for dinner one evening. We enjoyed the food, however, the dining room was fairly noisy. The other 2 nights we picked up seafood (oysters, prawns and sashimi salmon) from Freycinet Marine Farm and ate our dinner on our deck which we really enjoyed. While the room didn’t have a kitchenette we were able to borrow a couple of dinner plates.
There are two lovely beaches adjacent to the property. Richardson’s Beach was approximately a kilometre long and was a delight to walk. Honeymoon Bay is much smaller but very pretty, too.
During our stay, we did several of the hikes including Wineglass Bay Lookout, Cape Tourville Walk and the Hazards Beach/Wineglass Bay beach circuit. They were all worth it for that magnificent views. We also went to Friendly Beaches and, in our opinion, this was one of the most spectacular beaches we have ever walked...and there was hardly anyone on it!
Freycinet Lodge was centrally located and there was lots to do within a short distance.

We stayed at the lodge with family for a friends wedding. Unfortunately for the high price we paid the room was very basic and extremely dated. Absolutely not good value or worth that amount of money. Staff were not knowledgeable and forgot to bring out meals; coffee served lukewarm; meal quality was not to the standard one would expect at such a place. The location is stunning and easily accessible for local attractions and walks but I found the lodge to be highly over priced for the service we received. Really disappointed would be an understatement.

The lodge is located just over 5min drive inside the Freycinct National Park, nestled among the trees/bushland at the edge of the bay. You will need to purchase a National Parks pass if you are intending to explore the park and the park trails but not if you are just visiting at the lodge for the day.

The staff are the reception were extremely helpful and provided a lot of suggestions as to what we could do during our stay. Worth having a look at the photos/history of the lodge. The outdoor deck at the main lodge provided spectacular views over Coles Bay - really good for having a drink on a warm afternoon.

We stayed in a one room cabin ($269/night) which for a single room was relatively spacious, as was the bathroom, and included a kitchenette and outdoor deck area. The room was clean and well presented. The view from the deck was of the cabin opposite and there was noise through the walls from the adjoining cabin. The furniture was a little tired and dated. There is no WiFi in any of the cabins and the WiFi in the main lodge was patchy/intermittent at best. The television reception in the cabin was the greatest either.

The breakfast at the Bay restaurant, due to COVID19 restrictions, was a la carte, with a choice of hot or cold dishes. It wasn't anything special or amazing just your typical hotel fare.

It would appear that you are really paying for the location not the quality of accommodation here. I didn't think that it was the greatest value for what you're paying for.

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights in one of the Coastal Pavilions (Bay View). The suite was beautiful and clean, we had an outdoor bath to enjoy.

After dinner, we came back to whiskey & chocolate and on our 2nd night more whiskey was offered. The suite has the most amazing bed and pillows and once you discover the hidden wash basin cabinet, use the pillow mist. It is heavenly.

The staff across the lodge from reception through to the restaurants are all polite and attentive, without being intrusive.

The personalised Welcome Card was a thoughtful touch as well, as was the lovely wine from Milton Vineyards.

Well positioned for easy access to National Park walks and the beach. Very peaceful.
A stunning area of natural beauty. We stayed in a spa cabin on a special 2-night RACT deal this stay. If you are not bothered about having a spa bath, book the basic cabin instead, which has better sitting space, including a sofa. The spa cabin had a large bath and bathroom but was not particularly luxurious otherwise.
All cabins are quite expensive at full rates by Tasmanian standards.
Breakfast included in the package was completely table service under post-Coronavirus conditions. Very generous and satisfying.
There are two options at the Lodge for dinner, a bistro/bar menu (also at lunch) and the main Bay restaurant. A three course dinner for two adults with one glass of wine each in the main restaurant costs approx $200. Food was adequate but not outstanding for the price. Perhaps a reflection of isolation and limited local alternatives. The restaurant is spacious, with high ceilings, beautiful views across the bay and nice outside decking for drinks if the weather is fine enough.
All staff we came across were helpful and keen to provide good service.

This is my favourite place to stay in Tasmania. The service from all staff members is exceptional - this includes reception, front of house and house keeping. Everyone always smiled and said hello, especially the staff from housekeeping when we passed them every morning on our walk to the main lodge from our pavilion.

We stayed in the bay view coastal pavilion and it was everything and more we could have hoped for. We have previously stayed in the coastal pavilion, but it was worth the extra money for the bay view: just a couple of metre's from our balcony was a private area of beautiful red granite and open views of the water. - I nearly cried with happiness; it was so special.

Family of 3 adults stayed for 2 nights in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom family cabin. We found the cabin to be up to date, very modern, not tired at all and very clean. The cabin was reached via some stairs and a wooden boardwalk and it backed onto bush. The cabin was large, as was the bathroom, and the small kitchen had all the necessities. There was a reverse cycle air-conditioner that kept us very warm, especially at night, and the shower had lovely hot water that was appreciated. There was also a safe in the cabin which was great. We have no faults to complain about at all with the cabin. With the main lodge, it was lovely to sit in the lounge and the bar area and although we didn't eat in the main restaurant (except at breakfast), we did eat at the bistro next door twice and the food was great. The staff were all wonderful and friendly and as I've written on another review, the staff were extremely busy and run off their feet. Nothing seemed too much for them to do for their guests. Breakfast was included in our room rate and although it was supposed to be a buffet (but changed to a la carte due to COVID), the food was plentiful and tasty. It was a lovely touch of the lodge, because we were staying over the Easter long weekend, to provide us with complimentary hot cross buns at breakfast - we loved that. We also did the high tea and that was wonderful too especially with the little Easter touches on the cakes as well. Cakes were delicious. But the view out the back of the main lodge is just spectacular. That's what we are all there for. Just the views of the bay with the sun setting sitting out on the back decks are priceless. Just fabulous. Staying here is pricey but if you're willing to pay the money, you are right in the national park and so close to all the walks and views. Would definately recommend.

I am booked in to a mountain king terrace in July. Is the premier spa cabin a better choice?

The only real difference is probably the spa room is slightly bigger. Or looks bigger in the photos (I didn’t actually see it). I would stick to the mountain king.

Yes, you need a national park pass as Freycinet Lodge is within the park & around 1 km from the entry. I f you consult the Parks & Wildlife Service website you will find you can purchase a national park pass online for ALL Tasmanian national parks. Costs for a vehicle & up to 8 passengers are 1 day $24, 8 weeks $60, 1 year $70 or $56 Concession rate, $38 Seniors rate. Any of these costs are minor compared with what you will pay for accommodation. Enjoy Freycinet National Park during your stay.

We stayed one night. We did the Mt Amos walk the first day, Wineglass Bay walk the next. I would suggest 2-3 nights max, move on and explore another pocket of Tassie for the other 1-2 nights!
