Just spent 3 days at Saffire. Setting, food, beverage, experiences included and service top shelf. Admittedly it comes at a cost but for a special occasion to make one feel special then check out this lodge. We did wine and whiskey tastings plus the bee keeping and oyster farm where you are eating from and on the sea...magical. The staff faultless, passionate, knowledgeable and do unexpected little touches eg. running a bubble bath on my wife's birthday evening with a chilled sparkling wine to hand.

From the moment we parked our vehicle and were warmly greeted by David to the moment we left we were made to feel as if we were the most important people on earth. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was out of this world. Our room was incredible and simple extra touches like writing Happy Anniversary in the sand in front of our room made us teary with delight. The short walk to the beach with umbrellas provided was something we needed after all the food. Our oyster shucking tour was another great moment with our guide very informative and thoughful. My massage and facial was also truly magnificent. We were invited to stay on for lunch on the day we were leaving which we did not expect. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay and anniversary an incredible one. If someone offered me 10 days in Bali or 1 night at the Saffire, we would definitely choose the Saffire

Dear Kazza1204, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a beautiful and thorough review of your recent Saffire experience. I and the entire team are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and your time on the stunning east coast of Tasmania. It would appear reading through your comments that you made the most of your time here and that you enjoyed some of the highlights that are on offer, including of course the marine farm oyster experience. To read that you would take one night at Saffire over 10 nights in Bali is so humbling, thank you. I do hope that we get the opportunity to host you both again in the future. Best regards, Ross

I am frankly devastated to return home from what was an absolutely wonderful trip to Saffire.

The entire trip from arrival at Hobart airport to departure was flawless. We were greeted in the arrival hall and brought to the private Saffire lounge to use the facilities and offered refreshments and stocked up with goodies for our drive. The welcome at Saffire was warm and genuine and the view that greeted us was simply breathtaking.

The accomodation was comfortable and plush. Even in a base level room, the room was spacious and well equipped. We appreciated the well stocked mini bar, which was replenished daily.

The food was truly exceptional, and extremely plentiful. The included wines and cocktails were fabulous, and we felt no need to venture often onto the premium wine list. We now include some of the dishes as amongst the best we have ever had, and we love to indulge in fine dining!

The staff were warm and friendly without exception, without ever feeling over the top or forced. Nothing was ever too much trouble and we were frequently invited to ask for anything that we might need.

The included activities, particularly the oyster farm experience, were fantastic and completely unique and memorable. We really enjoyed the half day cruise to Wineglass Bay, and found the boat extremely comfortable.

The spa was absolutely excellent with very skilled therapists and a lovely array of treatments on offer.

The attention to detail here is spectacular. Dietary needs were always closely considered. Little touches like the beautiful treats brought to the room ever afternoon and the lovely turn down service with candles lit and drinking water left out really made all the difference.

The only suggestion that I could make for improvement would be the addition of a guest pool or jacuzzi, as not every room has its own plunge pool. Had it been there we definitely would have used and enjoyed it, but given the proximity of the nearby beach and the deep luxurious bath, we didn’t feel that it detracted from our stay at all.

Overall this is definitely a 5/5 destination and I will be happily recommending it to anyone who will listen!

Thank you to the entire team for a wonderful experience!

Obviously the scenery is outstanding, but for me it ends there. The activities and the all inclusive package seem to be what the venue promotes as their points of difference. The oyster farm activity was overcrowded and nothing like the intimate experience sold to us in the marketing. At least tell people it’s a group activity! Don’t serve water in old used bottles, and don’t offer to provide cheese and biscuits with champagne and serve it from a plastic takeaway container! This is unacceptable. Meanwhile from the Muscle Korma to the Parmesan broth, the food was far from acceptable also. Keep it simple. No one likes pretentious food that doesn’t make sense. The front of house staff were friendly, although the assistant manager struggled to connect and was more like an inexperienced realestate agent. I wouldn’t stay here again. Nothing really interesting to do apart from the oyster farm, and nothing else that is unique to this venue.

Dear Zachscarter, Thank you taking the time to review your recent Saffire experience, I really appreciate your feedback and am very sorry to hear that your short one night stay with us did not live up your expectations. In regards to all of our activities they are based on a shared basis with other guests, including maximum numbers placed on all tours to avoid them being over crowded. We can of course arrange to have private tours and activities should you prefer to not participate in tours with other guests. Last year we made the decision based on our guests feedback to move away from single use plastic water bottles as we want to do our part to protect our beautiful state. Although we are only a very small property with 20 suites we believe that we can help to have a positive impact on sustainability, this is one very small project that we have undertaken as a result. We implemented the use of Nalgene water bottles to help to minimise our single use plastics usage. To date in the past twelve months we have saved 13,000 single use plastic water bottles ending up in landfill due to this initiative, I do sincerely apologise that you did not find this acceptable. In regards to our dining offerings we do pride ourselves on our food and this is usually very well received by our guests as you will read in other reviews, the food is usually referred to as being quite approachable. Our talented brigade of chefs work tirelessly to present and showcase the best that our local region has to offer, once again I am sorry that this was not your experience Zachscarter. We also pride ourselves on being able to cater for any dietaries or requests from our guests and if you would ever prefer to have a simpler offering all you need do is ask and our friendly team will assist. While I am pleased that you enjoyed your interactions with our amazing front of house staff I must say I was shocked to read your comments regarding our assistant manager Patrick. Patrick is without doubt one of the most genuine and caring people I have ever met, he prides himself on engaging with each of our guests and ensuring that they are comfortable and safe while here at Saffire. Zachscarter I am sure that if you had stayed with us for longer that you too would have seen these genuine qualities that all of our other guests and previous reviewers have. It is very sad to hear that you would not stay here again and that your impression of Saffire is that there is nothing interesting to do apart from the oyster farm experience. We do offer 17 different guided activities for our guests and numerous self guided options such as archery, stand up paddle boards, golf, mountain biking and fishing. We are of course always looking to improve these offerings to be ever more dynamic and appealing, especially to our retuning guests. Zachscarter in short I am saddened that your Saffire experience did not live up to your expectations. I take all feedback seriously and will use your comments as a tool to further improve our products and services. Personally I am usually very humbled by the amazing feedback that we usually receive on this forum and I am always equally disappointed when we fail to meet our guests expectations. Should you wise to discuss this matter in any further detail you will find all of my information below. Yours sincerely, Ross Boobyer General Manager rboobyer@federalgroup.com.au

We stayed 5 nights at Saffire, just about right. The Saffire Signature Suite was perfect: big, every amenity you could think of, complimentary bottomless snacks, drinks, alcohol, all replenished every day, fantastic bathroom, 2 very private outdoor patios. And everything looks out over Oyster Bay and The Hazards mountains. I could write pages about the staff, but to sum up, besides being the nicest, friendliest people you will EVER meet, they all seem to be mind readers: If you think it, or mention it in passing, it either appears or happens. And the meals! Sure, there's a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner but ANYTHING you ask for they will make, just be sure you go into the kitchen and personally thank all the amazing chefs. And it's all gourmet level dining. If that's not enough, there's a cocktail hour and canapes to start the evening. Besides the hiking opportunites, don't miss doing the Sparkling Saffire boat trip around the national park, it's beautiful, relaxing and educational as the crew fills you in on local history. And the Spa staff and facility was top notch also, do the 90 minute massage!
Sure, it's expensive but everything is covered during your stay except for the boat trip and maybe a few excursions, and sure, it's remote on the pristine Freycinet Peninsula, but no matter how you choose to get there (private car, self drive, helicopter) just do it. You won't find a more relaxing, beautiful, friendly and worthwhile place to stay anywhere in the world

We visited Saffire Freycinet in Oct 2018. This is a stunning property in the Freycinet National Park area. Luxurious in every way from its physical beauty to the staff's hospitable service. These are the most stood out qualities:

1) the room is amazing, panoramic view of the Frecinet mountain range, surrounded by nature, top notch luxurious yet extremely comfortable and cozy room amenities;
2) hotel common areas are also luxurious and comfortable...it is very much a world-class, all inclusive luxury property experience; and
3) staffs are very hospitable and have great attention to details and know how to handle guests who are discerning luxury travelers

While it was an absolute beautiful and luxurious experience for us, I am reluctant to say I will make a special trip from the US to return. I felt that the excursions were a bit lacking in substance. We went for the guided hike, winery tour, oyster farm visit, and kayaking. The hike and winery tour were quite banal; oyster farm was very cool but it was with a group of 8-10 other guests. The experiences were nice but we didn't spend much quality time learning and taking in the nuance; rather they felt like group tours without much personalization and substance.

This resort is one of the nicest – if not the – nicest place we have stayed at in Australia (and that includes the likes of One and Only at Wolgan Valley, Hayman Island, Park Hyatt Sydney, etc.). The drive is quite long from Hobart but worth it as is the special Saffire Lounge at the airport. (Take snacks as there is not much in between the airport and the Saffire although we did fine a nice coffee shop in Swansea.) We were greeted by friendly and respectful staff and quickly escorted to our room which overlooks Oyster Bay and up to the Hazards. She had suggestions for daily events including bee keeping, oyster farming, apa cooking, and cocktail making. We opted out of everything except the spa and bee keeping which was well worth it and Rob is a true passionate local when it comes to his (Italian) bees.
The rooms are spacious, well appointed, and definitely private including the porch and despite full occupancy, incredibly quiet. Free wine and spirits is a nice gesture given what you are paying.
This place delivers on its promise - quiet, serene and private.

We were excited to discover that Saffire was reopening after the recent world issues. We were welcomed like family and made to feel very comfortable and pampered. All the staff on site have made an amazing effort to “hang in there” and return to work with such positive attitudes. The staff are what makes this resort so special. Well done to everyone. Some went over and above their regular duties to ensure all guests were very well cared for. Chef Iain even divulged a great sauce recipe so we could share with our friends. The resort is immaculately clean and the food and drinks just kept coming. Thank you for a relaxing weekend and we cannot wait to go back again next year.

We had a wonderful time during our 2 night stay, we quad bikes in the rain, watched the sunset whilst drinking all included amazing yuzu margaritas and delicious Tasmanian sparkling, relaxed in the oversized rooms and breathed the over oxygenated air like it was going out of fashion.

I ate oysters that had just been pulled from the ocean and everything I did or asked for (the best caramelised popcorn I’ve ever eaten-three more packets at 1am?-four packets were delivered moments later with a smile).

I can’t rate this resort or the staff highly enough. The price includes just about everything so is actually quite ‘reasonable’ if you are going to have a lush time. And it makes it so much more fun being able to help yourself to the minibar without calculating the hit to your wallet!

We are coming back!

Dear Melb2day, What a lovely review of Saffire, thank you. I myself have been lucky enough to do the quad bike tour in the rain and although apprehensive at first it turned out to be so much fun driving through deep puddles and being covered in mud. I am so pleased to hear that you will be returning for another visit and I tend to agree with you about the popcorn although it should come with an addiction warning. We all look forward to welcoming you back at some point hopefully in the near future. If and when the time presents itself for a repeat visit please feel free to contact me directly and I will oversee each aspect of the reservation process for you. Warmest regards, Ross

The best establishments deliver on quality service for their guests; the truly outstanding ones make you feel even more special with a personal and engaging experience created just for you. This is what Saffire achieved for us and they appear to achieve it effortlessly, through being always there for us but never intrusive and by customising aspects of our stay proactively but always by understanding and considering our preferences.

The accommodation is indulgently luxurious with an inspiring panorama of the Hazards and the bay - a stunning way to wake up each morning. The Lodge is equally beautiful and the home of inspired indulgences at all times of the day and night; breakfast, lunch, canapes, and dinners generated frequent sighs of pleasure. The degustation dinners with wine flights, managed with knowledge and served with panache, were most enjoyable and well reflected the best of local produce and wines.

This was all achieved by what the staff at times and naturally refer to as the Saffire 'family'; one that gently embraces you for the duration of your stay to whatever degree that meets your particular needs. Whether it is just good company for a morning of oysters in the river, or caring hosts for lunch, or exceptional attentiveness at the bar, or a first class dining experience, or a masterclass coordination of our total experience, the Saffire people seamlessly guided our experience in a relaxed , charming, and caring manner. They were there for us which we very much appreciated.

We felt that every effort was made to let us enjoy our stay and we did enjoy it, immensely and (perhaps) just a little indulgently. Saffire with class!

Hello rjmhobbs, There is an abundance of wildlife all along the Freycinet Peninsula. Depending on the time of year you are at the property you can expect a wide variety of birdlife, marsupials, seals, penguins and if you are lucky whales! If I can be of any assistance at all planning your return visit to Saffire, please do not hesitate to ask. Sincerely, Patrick

Hi JO68, January to April is a lovely time of year being summer so longer days and warmer weather, although it is our busiest time of year also. Although only having 20 suites helps to make it never feel to busy here at Saffire. We hope to welcome you soon.
