Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I travel a lot, on average spend 40-50 nights in hotels every year. We don't write reviews as most of the hotels somewhat meet our expectations according to other reviews.

But this time, we feel that we need to write a review as we found Malting Loogoon was way beyond our expectations.

We stayed 3 nights in December just before the New Year; we were surprised how Covid safe it was prepared by the host Jen. Although there are only 2 rooms, Jen still prepared each room with its own set of facilities. You have your own 170L fridge she fills with fresh juices, a lot of fruits, different types of yoghurt, and basic condiments like tomato and bbq sauce, mustard, salad dressing, tartare, etc... Jen is so generous she refills the fridge every day. There is a microwave and sandwich press, 2 espresso coffee machines (yes, 2 for each room, Jen said just in case there is a malfunction, her guests can still have coffee.) There are six different types of coffee pods and decaf pods as well. Tea lovers will find all sorts of tea in the cabinet. All of these that she prepared for us are of high quality.

The room is spacious and spotless; it looks better than the photos on the website. To be Covid safe, Jen set the dining table in each room; we still had a lot of room to move around. The bed is comfortable; there are Netflix and Stan connections in the bedroom.

The beer tasting is interesting. Mark makes 4 types of beers, all excellent, and I will definitely buy them if they start to bottle it.

The property is in a quiet street, a few minute's walks from a beach that only locals know.

The thought, care, and effort that Jen and Mark put in to make sure their guests feel at home are unmatched.

Thanks for taking the time to leave comments for others. And for your kinds thoughts. The COVID safe stuff took a while to consider. We think we've got it right, and it also provides our guests better facilities too. And yes we agree, our photos do not do our rooms justice. Although it is nice to exceed expectations.

A beautifully set up bed and breakfast outside of Coles Bay. Warmly welcomed by Jen and Mark.
There was great attention to detail in both the bedroom and the communal guest sitting room and kitchen. The dedication to apply all the COVID restrictions must have been tiresome in the setup.

Thank you for the lovely review. And thank you for noticing the effort we put in to our guests experience. Yes, COVID...what can I say there. It's been a lot of working, both physically and mentally. We're taking a winter break rest now from it all and will come back mid spring.

Jen and Mark are great hosts and do everything they can to create a relaxed and friendly stay. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed and the location is within easy walk to the beach and commute to Coles Bay and surrounds.
Beer tasting is fun.

Owner is helpful, friendly but not intrusive. The breakfast provided were great - I especially love the fruit loaf bread. Butter and extensive variety of jams were lovely too. Room (we had the one facing the sea) is simple but extremely functional with heater/air-conditioner and heat lamps in the bathroom are good for drying the towels other than keeping you warm. The owner also kindly helped us with the laundry. Not forgetting their cute dog which I miss very much. Thank you for the hospitality.

What a great find! We had three days here and loved it. Rooms are immaculate, breakfast each day was comprehensive, wifi was great, and the location is a short drive to the shops and the National Park walks.
Jen, your host, goes to great lengths to make sure you have a memorable stay and will give you first hand information on the best walks to attempt. She even warned us of roads to avoid after recent heavy rain.
As a bonus, there is even Netflix for a lazy night of relaxing with gourmet pizza from Geographe, and a beer tasting if you like. Beat that!

Lovely 3 nights at Mark and Jen's. Attention to detail was obvious from the outset and well above levels expected at this price. Very generous hosts in all respects. I love my craft beer and rate Mark's product right up there with the best I have tasted anywhere. The dog is gorgeous too.

Thanks for your feedback on our beers. We do invest a lot our ourselves in our beers, so feedback like this is genuinely appreciated. As for the dog...I think she might be our most important asset at times ;-). She's always pleased to see and welcome all our guests. We like to refer to her as a "Tourist Therapy Dog" as anyone who is missing their own pet can spend time with her and receive unconditional adoration.

My Husband and I recently spent two nights at the Malting Lagoon. My Husband was a tad excited that we were staying at a micro-brewery. I can not speak highly enough of Jen and Mark. The accommodation was 5 star and our continental breakfast was delicious. Mark is happy to accommodate a beer tasting and we both really enjoyed their company and knowledge (not to mention they have a gorgeous dog as well who also enjoys pats/cuddles). There are plenty of places nearby to have dinner/or to get take away to take back to the accommodation. Would definitely recommend Jen and Mark’s accommodation.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, the micro-brewery is a bit of fun, and we do have plenty of craft beer disciples stay with us that spend hours talking about beer and life, in that order, with Mark at the house bar. And of course Gemma our border collie is always around (unless she's at the beach) seeking attention from guests.

Malting Lagoon was a delightful home away from home, and Jen and Mark went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. From the generous amenities, Netflix/Stan access on the TV, delicious breakfast and the beautiful rooms, we felt taken care of in every way. If you’re inclined, be sure to try Mark’s beer! We enjoyed hearing about the process and tasting a great selection of brews (all of which was included with our stay). We’ll certainly be recommending Malting Lagoon to anyone travelling up this way!

Malting Lagoon was a delightful place to stay and the hosts, Jen and Mark, were excellent. We stayed two nights and as our first Guest House experience we were pleasantly surprised and made to feel at home. As 'doggy' people it was great to have Gemma being our friend also.

A beautifully set up space just outside of Coles Bay and a short drive to Wineglass Bay.

Thank you

Absolutely wonderful start to finish.

Clean, VERY good covid protocols, spacious modern and comfortable room, beer tastings for guests, and the blonde four legged host Gemma was an utter delight.

No hesitation to highly recommend this one, and look forward to returning

Hi Pamela I'm not sure if it's you who called earlier today or not. If it wasn't, I would say no to us being wheel chair accessible as we do have a couple of steps to get in to the house. I would try Edge of the Bay Resort as I'm pretty sure they have an accessible room. It's the one closest to the restaurant and from memory has single beds in it. Also Freycinet Lodge might be worth trying. They have lifts in the main building from reception down to the restaurant and I imagine would have accessible rooms, but don't hold me to that as I'm assuming. It may also even be worth a call to Iluka Caravan Park as they have cabins and you may find they have facilities in some of their cabins. Saffire definitely have an accessible room, but they may be out of your budget. They are out of my budget! I hope that all helps with your research and decision. Regards Jen
