Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staff were friendly and food was delicious. The menu wasn’t extensive as most pubs but there was enough dishes to cater to patrons differing tastes. We had Cutlets and steak which was tender and cooked to our liking. Various sauces on offer to accompany meals.

We visited the Prince of Wales hotel in Evandale on Saturday 19th February which my cousin is the manager. We had a delicious lunch which I had chicken parmigiana, my husband Andrew had the scallops which he enjoyed and my parents had the same. Well be back soon when we visit from Queensland.

WOW. This is a great little pub. The rooms very comfortable and warm on a winter's night. The owner went out of her way to welcome me(thankyou, thankyou). The menu is outstanding and very affordable. This charming pub and the beautiful historic town is well worth visiting. I'll need more rooms next time because I'm bringing the gang for a couple of days.

The standard of cleanliness is very low in the delapidated room we were given. There were faeces ground into the hinge of the toilet seat and most plastic cables were sticky. There was no ventilation. The top of the skirting boards around the room were black with fluff stuck to years of uncleared grease. The buttons on the heat pump were ringed with congealed muck. They told us we were lying about the cleanliness when we paid the bill, which was as much as good budget hotels Australia wide. Superficial 'lick and promise' and she'll be alright standards here. Only stay here if it is your last and only resort.

Great venue. It is wonderful to see a traditional pub doing well in a small community. No pokies, no keno just a corner piece in local society. The hotel is welcoming and the licencee very pleasant. The rooms are functional and value for money. We had dinner and it was great pub grub. Breakfast in the rooms. Could eat in the local bakery for a cooked breakfast. Parking in the area behind the pub. Overall a very good experience.

The hotel has recently been taken over by new and friendly people and the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. The service is great and the rooms are clean tidy and comfy. We are locals and recently had friends down from Queensland for a visit and we recommended they stay at the POW and they were very pleased with everything.
Highly recommended.

We didn't expect much driving into Evandale, but was pleasantly surprised by how pretty the place is.

The hotel is situated adjacent to the restaurant and pub. Easy to find, right on the main road towards Launceston. Check in was easy and quick, room spacious and lovely. Comfortable rooms, double + bunk beds configuration. Bath shower is a plus. Tea and coffee facility well stocked, and even provided some simple continental breakfast for the morning. Great value at $90 per room.

The restaurant has simple menu of steak/fishnchips/poultry dishes, but is very surprisingly good and at great value. Very good servings, service friendly and prompt, very good all in all. I personally had not had such great value and tasty meal anywhere else in Aussie tourist areas.

Town area is cute. Have a stroll around and the historic environment is quite relaxing.

Airport is 6 min from Evandale. Nearest petrol station is United just past the airport, ~3min drive from airport.

Highly recommended to stay here instead of Launceston if you are flying the next day, no regrets.

My partner & I were staying in Evandale for 3 nights. We actually had dinner at this Pub on the Sunday night, 3 May 2015, by default.

Let me explain ... we had arrived in Evandale around lunch time that same day. On our arrival we had had lunch at the Clarendon Arms Hotel,(see my Trip Advisor review), which is around the corner from the Prince of Wales..

We had had such an enjoyable roast pork lunch we went back for dinner only to be told they did not do dinners on Sunday nights. So .. we ended up trying the Prince of Wales, by default, for dinner.

Have to say if you eat at this Pub you won't go home hungry.

My partner ordered the Chicken Parmie ... it was positively huge .. she struggled to get through it .. I ordered the House Pizza.

When I ordered my pizza I intended to order the large size, as I have a healthy appetite, but was seriously advised by the barmaid that the small size is bigger than most people can get through.

As I had had a late largish lunch, (the Roast Pork at the Clarendon Arms Hotel), I took her advice & ordered the small pizza.

Well .. I don't think I can remember ever having been served a pizza with so much topping ... they even included pineapple for me which I had asked for ...it was a mighty big solid packed satisfying (small sized) pizza.... & it tasted bloody good.

I ended up polishing off my small?? pizza as well as some of my partner's salad & chips, which she simply couldn't manage.

The other couple from N.Z. that had befriended us & insisted they pull their table up to join us for dinner also had the Chicken Parmie (her) & the T.Bone steak, chips & salad (him).

I noticed that their meals were also a very good size & they both seemed to enjoy what they got.

The one & only criticism sadly I have to make is that this Pub does not pour a good beer. Whether it is because the glasses have been washed in soapy/detergent?? or whether it is just the way the bar maid pulls the beer, I'm not sure.

All I know is that both my schooners went flat very quickly .. & not because of my eating & getting grease/fat on my lips ... (which will always kill a beer) ...

I noticed that the beer glasses were chilled ... good!! but I suspect it is the lack of knowledge on the part of the barmaid not knowing .... perhaps never been taught properly how to pull a beer.

Anyway .. on that note ... yes, go to the Prince of Wales if you want a full satisfying decent honest meal for an honest price ...

If you can't stand being served up flat beer than perhaps order a wine.
