If you are staying in Devonport as we did,Make sure you visit The Homestead,of the only Tasmanian Prime Minister of Australia,Joe Lyons..this is at Home Hill..His wife was quite a Lady.they had 12 children...It was very cheap to get a guided very informative tour, with a lovely lady..(think like $8 for seniors)So very well presented, and takes you back into our history...Enid Lyons was quite a woman..raising the children a lot alone..she later entered Politics herself..won't tell you more!!!Great value, just a few minutes from city centre..2pm tour time printed at 1.30pm,by mistake..We have it a 10...fun and informative...

The House was comfortable and well catered for with everything you could need.
Centrally located, a short distance to town or the food shops on Forbes St.
Great place to stay for a trip along the NW coast or up into the national parks and Cradle Mountain. Conveniently located to Spirit of Tasmania as well.

Initially we were very pleased with our booking, until we found out that the washing machine didn't work. Of course that didn't happen until halfway through the cycle when we noticed water all over the floor. As we had been travelling for the last 2 weeks, this was a disaster as we had put practically all of our clothes into the machine. Phil came to try and fix and muttered something about previous hirers mentioning something about the machine??? Anyhow we got over that and put our clothes into the tumble drier, which of course never worked either! Needless to say that we were a little peeved at this point as we had specifically booked the accommodation for the laundry facilities!
Of course when Phil was with us for the washing machine repair he mentioned that the main oven never worked and one of the grills?????????
If everything worked, I would have put a very different review in for this place!!!
Get them fixed!

We arrived to Rosalie Cottage in Wenvoe St after visiting the website. The historic cottage would be better utilized as a museum and not for accommodation. The furniture is old - to match in with the cottage - but this is not practical for comfort of guests. The cottage was very cold and could not be warmed by the mix match of several heaters throughout. Heaters had broken elements or switches and even the fire, once lit, did nothing to warm the room. Only one side of electric blanket worked. There are far too many knick knacks and unnecessary clutter gathering dust. The whole place was dusty. Unsure when last cleaned. Oven didn't work. Washing machine and dryer are old and kept stopping. Power kept tripping forcing us to have to go outside in the dark to reset the RCD in power box. Leftover and open food, bottles and condiments etc should be removed. Cash handover at premises with no receipt given. Extremely disappointed with our one night stay and would not recommend.

Response from Tassie L, Owner at Devonport Historic Cottages
Responded 11 Sept 2015
Appreciate the comments and very sorry you did enjoy your 1 night stay at the cottage ,but I do have extra electric heaters in the cottage during winter as it has been a cold winter ,and possibly too many electric heaters running when the dryer and other appliances are operating can overload the RCD. I have noted the electric blanket electronic switch on one side is not displaying correctly and this has been replaced now. I will use your comments to make minor improvements to make it a better experience for my guests. Spring weather is now here and with the warmer weather the cottage is very comfortable for a couple or family to stay. Regards, Philip.
