Rates start at $140 twin share per night for a fully self-contained 2 bedroom apartment with its own kitchen & bathroom. White House is a 110 year old two storey weatherboard mansion situated at 14 Formby Road, Devonport. The house was originally built around 1900 as a manor home. After the first World War the building served as a local maternity hospital. In 1962 the property was extended and converted into 5 separate flats and painted white. It was referred to locally as the White House. Four years ago we found this grand old house in poor repair and at risk from developers. Our plan is to save the house and transform it into a unique accommodation destination on Tasmania's North Coast. Stage one of our renovation is now complete and we're proud to offer 2 fully self-contained two-bedroom holiday apartments. Styling is vintage/retro and the atmosphere is relaxed. Each apartment has its own private kitchen and bathroom and sleeps up to 6 people. All bedrooms contain a queen-size bed. With the addition of 2 single bunk beds in each back bedroom. Each bedroom also has a TV & DVD player. Linen and Towels are provided as is tea, coffee, milk and breakfast cereal. Upstairs Apartment 2 offers great views through the front bedroom bay windows while downstairs Apartment 1 offers great views in its own 3 metre wide high definition movie cinema. Our gas-fired central heating will help make your Winter stay cozy and warm. Your hosts, Moira and Bill invite you and your family (and your pets) to a unique and memorable accommodation experience. Stay for a night or stay for a week.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

These apartments are large with double beds, comfy couches, big kitchen and bathroom and a great water heated internal environment. Monica is a great host and is always helpful. Extras include a big screen projector for a library of DVD's plus 2 TV's. It has been done out in 40's & 50 decor using period furniture and fittings. It is not shiny surfaces and modern but old and comfy and worth a stay. Loved it.

We have revisited this wonderful accommodation. We were received a wonderful welcome and got the movie room, love the set up. We watched two movies and really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the accommodation.

Our host Moira was fabulous and the cinema room was huge, very comfortable and loved the retro styling. Close to everything in centre of town for restaurants and pubs. Will definitely be back again when we are up this way.

We stayed here in January, beautiful weather, clean, thoughtfully and cleverly appointed apartment on the top floor. Could not have asked for more. I would say, without doubt, that to just be with Moira one night on the way to or from the ferry would be a complete waste - this place deserves way more than 1 night.... Attention to detail second to none! Awesome!

at first we were surprised by the position of the house as it is on a main road but once inside , the road noise is inaudible, and non existent at night anyway. the owner has done a fantastic job outfitting this huge house. This is full of eclectic furniture and knickknacks but very tastefully done and very comfortable. The rooms are huge and extremely well maintained, the heating is generous and everything is spotless. we were impressed by the warmth of the welcome and the overall attention to details by the owner. this accommodation deserves its first ranking in Devonport and we will be back there if we are ever back in Devonport.

The White House did my head in. Despite being old and beautifully (retro) furnished, complete with old school kitchen, it was so clean and well kept. I love retro and I imagined I was visiting my mum's place. I'm really fussy as far as housekeeping goes and I couldn't fault it in any way. Moira is lovely, although exhausted from Christmas. Well done to you both

We stayed at the White House for eight nights. It was magnificent. Wonderful that it is doggy friendly as well! Hosts Moira and Bill were so obliging, helpful and very friendly. The decor is tastefully retro with some wonderful pieces available for the guests' use. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the beds soooo cosy and comfortable.

Such a beautiful place to stay. I visited Tassie in August so it was chilly outside but the rooms were toasty warm with internal heating. Amazing furniture and ambience with lovely hand designed touches. Great hosts. I stayed in the upstairs apartment which was spacious with very comfy bed . This room had another bedroom off it and a private kitchen. Towel warmer in the bathroom. It was the perfect place to have as our base while we explored all the wonderful sites around Devonport. I would definitely return!

A truly magnificent house, full of all things retro and eclectic! You can tell this house is loved by her owners and they are happy to have guests stay so they can also experience the charm of the place. There were only two of us but the apartments are very big, so ideal for families. There's also a great cinema in the ground floor apartment which would keep the kids happy I'm sure. I loved this place so much and hope I can come back for longer next time.
