Detailed Reviews
I have stayed there two weeks in January.(2015)
It is the peak season on that time in Devonport, you can not pay more than three days in one time. But there was no accommodation available on that time.
The wifi was bad contact and sometime it was really noise in the night time, even in the mid-night. the kitchen is mess and dirty. And I think they have not enough space for kitchen. The Kitchenwares were placed everywhere.
They have no car park and near city center.
Thats ok for backpackers to stay, its not expensive, but the others should be better.

Dined at Molly Malone’s in 2011 when we were on holiday in Devonport so when we returned we gave it another go – The food is “Pub food” and you get what you pay for. We would not go back to Molly’s for another meal as the prices are a bit too high for a pub meal and service is a bit slack. It is noisy if you want to dine inside or people smoking around you if you dine outside..

Booked double ensuite room which was just okay. Bathroom needed some work.
The common area and kitchen were not clean.
Overall it was very cheap and in a good location so willing to overlook a lot of the issues.

Stopped for lunch in Devonport. Huge, tasty roast dinner with a quirky easter Surprise dessert.
Polite staff and clean facilities.
Highly recommend. Two large roasts, dessert and a drink each cost $51.
Great atmosphere and next to $20 parking

While the pub has great food and staff ,the accomadation is less than perfect. I have stayed at plenty of backpackers but this would have to be the worst. Fair enough the beds were only $20 a night and the sheets were clean but the rest of the accomadation is pretty run down and grubby. Our room had a large patch of black mould in the corner and paint peeling off the ceiling.the carpets had dirty marks everywhere. our heater didnt work. The shower had lots of hair near the drain and broken tiles. Kitchen pretty grubby ,carpets need a vacuem and generally a good clean everywhere. The outside balcony area was pretty rough with two old couches and run down furniture. I really don't think it has been cleaned for months. Basically it really needs a overhaul .Im surprised the owners have let it become so run down. Sorry but will stay somewhere else next time.

My friends and I ate here a few times as the kitchen in our hostel was disgusting. Prices are reasonable and the food is ok. What you'd expect from an Irish pub in a town like Devonport ;-)

The noise was the biggest problem! It was a Sat night, and the band played right underneath til 3am! Was shocking, and we ended up both (my partner and I were put in separate dorms, so we spent the whole night up, just keeping each other company! Our taxi was at 7am to catch the Spirit of Tasmania ferry to Melbourne, so it set a pattern for a whole week of not being able to get our sleep back! Also, the bunk ladders were realistic and unclimbable - i couldn't get up mine, so I couldn't sleep in the room. The kitchen is too small for all the storage of guest food too. Only consolation was the staff - they were great. But you pay $20, you get $20 worth. Admittedly, it is very close to supermarkets, chemists, bottle shops, and close to the ferry terminus. Also a nice boardwalk right along the water's edge which was really nice

I only stay for two nights, because I was taking the Spirit of Tasmania. I booked a dorm room. The dorm was normal and OK for the price, however there was an inconvenient with my key. For that reason they changed me to the next room available which was private. The place was clean, kitchen facilities and balcony. It was located in a very good place in Devonport with supermarkets, Mc Donalds, cinema, information centre nearby. It was also close to the river where you can walk to the beach or take the ferry that take to East devonport.

We stayed at Molly Malones on 2 occasions and you pretty much get what you pay for @ $20 a night. The rooms we stayed in were 2 bunk rooms (so 1 bunkbed/2 person rooms) which was great for us travelling as a couple. The matresses are very thin though, so you can feel the springs poking in your back. The sheets were clean. The showers had some issues going from warm to cold and low water pressure. They were however clean as were the toilets. The kitchen was fine and there was plenty of space in the fridges. The location of the hostel is good with supermarkets, bottleshop and other shops nearby. Molly Malones has no parking facilities but there is a big parking lot at the back of the pub which is free on Saturday and Sunday but paid on Mon-Fri. Don't expect anything flash from the hostel. It's basic and cheap but o.k. for a short stay.

I chose this hostel because of its location and the fact that it is located above a pub. I thought this meant that there would be a lively vibe with many travellers. While I only stayed for one night after I arrived on the Spirit of Tasmania, and it was still a little cold before the heat of summer, I was surprised by how quiet the hostel was in terms of guests. I only saw two other people while I was there. Kitchen was basic but functional. As I was really only passing through, this hostel suited me for location and price. Remember to bring your own bedding otherwise there is an additional cost.

"The staff were very friendly and can help you choose the room that best fits your needs. Just remember to bring earplugs, it's an old building and the A/C units run all night and when you sleep with the window open you hear it."Read full review
