Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From the moment we entered this gracious home until we left we basked in luxury . Paul and Brendan were such welcoming hosts snd the rooms were tastefully renovated with every thought put into the tiniest detail . The comfortable and warm four poster bed made us feel like royalty as we were surrounded by all the period furniture snd wall furnishings befitting such status. The next morning we ate a delicious home cooked breakfast in the dining room which was also fitted out beautifully - A charming stay . I cannot recommend it more highly - we shall certainly be back when we next visit Devonport

The hotel is lovely. Filled with antiques, crystal and China settings and wonderful hosts. Paul and Brendan provide valuable insights on where to go while traveling the area and the breakfasts they serve are amazing. There are many highly rated restaurants within 5 minutes walking and this location was a great base to do day trips while exploring Northern Tasmania. We would absolutely recommend to anyone coming to the area and we'll be back!

A fabulous place to stay - with personality and style. The magnificent old building has been sympathetically restored and stocked with antiques in every nook and cranny. The hosts are cheerful and clearly care about what they do. We had the Grand Queen Suite which had a seperate sitting / tv area that was appreciated. If you’re not good with stairs check with the boys which rooms are upstairs and which are downstairs. Breakfast was cooked to order and was exceptional. I think we’ll be skipping lunch. In the sitting room they offer a glass of port or a Pedro Ximenez sherry. That was a lovely touch tonight and in winter it would be bliss. There is parking onsite right next to reception. Wifi worked well. Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Bathroom was well stocked. It’s about a two block walk into the centre of Devonport where you will find stores and a handful of restaurants. Yet the hotel is so quiet we slept incredibly well.

Just a one night stay here en route to Hobart, but couldn’t have been better. Gorgeous building and rooms fitted out as ready for a visiting Royal! Antiques, tapestries round every corner. Super comfortable oversized bed; breakfast was simply the best omelette I’ve ever had. Highly recommended. Paul and his husband were charming and made us feel like we’d come home.

One of the best places I have ever stayed at. Paul and Brendan are fantastic hosts and make you feel at home in their beautiful establishment. The decor throughout is incredible and speaks of their dedication to The Grand. We were leaving Devonport and going south to stay at Ratho Farm in Bothwell for our next adventure and they knew everything about the place and the connection to The Grand. So apart from a fabulous stay with these two gentlemen, we also received a mini history lesson. The room, food but more importantly, the hosts are definitely a 10/10. Best wishes to them both. Thank you, Kate & Bernie.

Paul and Brendan couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. The Grand was luxury at every turn, beautifully appointed with attention to detail, from comfortable bed, beautiful linen, lovely room, to stunning table setting and a delicious breakfast. The hotel was amazing oozing character and charm. The guys have thought of everything. We stayed at the grand our first night in Tassy it was supposed to be just one night but I didn’t want to leave (so we stayed two nights) Paul and Brendan made us feel like family it. Paul is a wealth of knowledge and nothing was too much trouble with making dinner reservations and advising on an emergency dentist. Brendan made us a fantastic breakfast then shared a cup of tea, a chat, lots of laughs and a tour of the grand. Can’t wait to get back and stay for the high tea on the weekend more laughs. Thank you Paul and Brendan. 🥰

The hosts, Paul & Brendan are fantastic! They make you feel so welcome, offer local knowledge as well as recommendations on places to eat & visit. The property has been lovingly restored & is beautiful. We stayed for two nights & thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend staying here and we will stay here again. I have no relationship nor am I connected to this business in any way, just wanted to recommend a worthy business.
