Cradle Mountain Hotel garners praise for its inviting atmosphere and prime location, perfect for guests aiming to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding national park. The comfortable rooms with scenic views are a hit among many travelers, though a few feel the decor could use an update. The cleanliness and service are frequently highlighted, with guests lauding the friendly staff and spotless conditions. While most consider the hotel a good value, some caution that certain services may seem pricey. Amenities such as cozy lounges with fireplaces and an art gallery add to the hotel's charm.

Cradle Mountain Hotel is very handy for the national park entrance. The rooms are large and breakfast was good. But when I am paying $400 Aud per night I expect a certain standard.

The CMH has very poor noise insulation. You can hear people talking in the room next door. You can also be woken up by them as they preapre for an early start at around 6.30 am. You can hear showers running in the room next door. As well as the sound of people in the cortidor. The walls are papetmr thin.

The rooms have very poor heating and ventilation systems. We had condensation on the inside window over night.

One of the spare blankets had a round burn hole in it ..looked like a cigerette hole.

Breakfast was good. But the choice for evening meals was expensive and limited. We ate at the bistro at the peppers resort nearby.

This was the most expensive room we stayed in on our trip around Tasmania It was not the best. Other hotwls had better quality bedding, better noise insulation and cost less. Some b@bs had bettet quality bedding and were better insulated.

Overall feeling was that CMH propers because of its location.

Hi Sophie1279, I would like to thank you for your stay and also for taking the time to review the hotel. While we endeavour to provide a sanctuary for guests to explore and reconnect with themselves, friends and family it appears in your circumstance we did not meet your expectations. I was, however, glad to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet at Altitude restaurant and the surrounding areas. Warm Regards, Jade Tito Front Office Manager

Reception:
Efficient organised staff.

Room / facilities:
Room number 46 is on the ground floor and is clean and well appointed, with walk in shower, flat screen TV, 2 x queen beds, table and chairs, bed lamps and clothes hanging area.

There is a small Juliet balcony which opens up to some bushland

Plenty of complementary car parking.
Laundry facilities are available with 2x washers and 2x dryers for $5 per use. Soap powder is available from reception for $2

Wifi:
Virtually zero reception in the room, despite being less than 3 meters from the wifi transmitter.
Web pages would NOT open and SMS or picture messages would not send.
I had to sit in the public area, with the warm fireplace to use wifi.

Breakfast:
Available but not utilised

Conclusion:
Stunning location, comfortable room, quiet and serene bush setting.

Letdowns:
Lack of in room Wifi signal and noise from inconsiderate guests in corridors.

Location / Nearby:
Cradle mountain visitors centre, other hotels, food outlets and convenience store, plenty of bush walk boards

Dear NeilC2607, Thank you for your recent stay and taking the time to leave a comprehensive review of our property. Your conclusion identifying the serene location and comfortable rooms is always well received. Its a shame you didn't see any of the local wildlife from your Juliet balcony. I apologise for the issues with the WiFi during your stay. Know that this is something we are aware of and are in the process of rectifying. Additionally, whilst noise disturbances do occur from time to time, our reception operates 24hr, so there is always someone there to deal with such issues. Again, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we hope to see you again soon. Take care, Nicholas Edwards Front Office Manager

We stayed one night on our tour around Tasmania.
The hotel is about 20 years old but seems well maintained.
Room is OK but nothing special . This is a standard room, The delux rooms face the bush and are 2 level but a lot dearer.
The saving grace is the location just a 2 minute drive to the visitor centre where you take a bus to the Dove lake . This is the perfect spot for a view of the mountain. There are many many walks some short and easy and others more difficult.
If you want to be close to the mountain and have limited time then this hotel will be OK but we think overpriced at $260 a night for a pretty basic room.

Hi OskarandSunny, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. As a seasonal property with our location so close to Cradle Mountain it appears that you have stayed in our high season which attracts a rate premium. We have a number of package offers which will be marketed shortly for our winter season offering some very attractive deals which may be of interest. Hopefully we will see you back again in the future. Warm Regards, Jade Tito Front Office Manager

Have had a fair few visits to Cradle over the years and it's popularity just grows and grows. It's almost an additional hike from the car park to the expanding visitor centre now and the 10 minute buses through the park often only have standing room. Took up a RACT deal to their hotel at the entry to the park and it was just a bit underwhelming. For $289 we received a night's accommodation, buffet evening meal and buffet breakfast. The room was ok but it was a hot night so a hot room as no air conditioning up in a mountain. You could participate in the conversation in the next room if you wanted to as the walls are paper thin. The buffet dinner was well below average with a selection of totally unmatched foods totally deconstructed with no hints how to reconstruct them. Lots of unlabelled jars of white stuff and red stuff, a few jars of unlabelled beans and seeds, weird salads like pork salad, weird curries like Thai pink ling curry and the list goes on. While you try and assemble something remotely edible quite attractive looking a la carte meals whisk by and you really do feel you have chosen the short straw. When we arrived we were initially offered either a la carte or buffet but then the waiter quickly corrected himself and said no it's buffet as that is included for some odd reason. The odd reason is because that is a package the hotel offers. We knew the hotel had communication issues as next morning when going to breakfast the waitress booking us in doubted breakfast was included but offered to check just in case she was wrong, which she was. Breakfast was so so and the coffee on offer was from a modified coffee machine that only half filled cups with cool weak coffee as a lot of elderly unsteady visitors stay at times. When checking out the receptionist didn't bother asking whether we enjoyed our stay and I think that speaks mountains. My guess is she knew the answer and was sick of hearing it. So the Lodge and Wilderness Village remain 1 and 2 and the hotel trails a distant 3rd.

Could not fault the staff or the food experiences, all first class but that's were the good news stops! The room itself was clean and tidy the bed was ok, not the best of the trip but pleasant enough, I have concerns about the heating/cooling, the price range this facility puts itself in I expected more than a small panel heater on one wall, our overnight stay it only dropped to minus 2 and there was a chill in the room near the huge glass sliding door in the sitting area, we question that if its colder it may be an issue, it was very pleasant during the afternoon even at 7 or 8 degrees outside but with no cooling and the huge north facing glass doors the warmer summer temps could make it quite uncomfortable I think. Bathroom clean, smart and well appointed. Now the acoustics issues, the layout of this facility is 2 wings running east west and all rooms accessed by one common hallway in each wing, this does not lend itself to a peaceful stay especially when you factor in wooden floors, paper thin walls and children running, skipping and yelling all day and evening. I am a heavy sleeper but my wife isn't and she reported being kept awake by a snorer in the room next door again due to layout as the rooms are mirror imaged so our bed backed onto the bed in adjoining room. Not a pleasant stay so if we return to the area we will try a competitor.

We were very happy with our split level room. As we were first time visitors to Tasmania, we were very happy with the location of the hotel for visiting Cradle Mountain. We enjoyed the food and the hotel is located close to Peppers Tavern which was also a good meal option.
The linen and toiletries supplied were really nice… could not fault the room but we did see inside the older style standard rooms, which were not as nice as their windows/balconies faced on to the car park and they didn’t offer the privacy which our suite facing the forest did.
Meals were good and well priced, and the service attendants and reception were all very professional and friendly.
All in all, we were very happy staying here and would recommend to others.
Parking was plentiful.
We did find the Gallery disappointing and uninspiring so in our opinion, don’t make a special trip to visit if you’re not staying there.

Has a fantastic weekend away with friends at this great property. From check in until after checkout the staff were friendly and couldn’t be more helpful or welcoming. Buffet breakfast options were great and the a la charge food looked great but I didn’t get the chance to eat it. We had one of the refurbished split king rooms which was really nice and we thought quite adequately heated for a winter stay. The walls are a little thin so noise does carry if you’re a light sleeper. Rooms on the front side of the hotel are best or anybody in the car park can look straight in.

The communal areas of this hotel have been renovated and look very nice. The rooms are quite dated. It is in a good location, only a couple of minutes drive to the national park and the staff are able to give you the information you need. Restaurant and bar staff were lovely, very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was good at $18 although the chef had no idea how to make an omelette or a muffin. Beds were comfortable although there’s not much sound proofing between rooms and we could hear somebody snoring all night. We were unable to book a second night so it must be popular.

We had a pretty good few nights at the Cradle Mountain Hotel.

Check-in took a while, and when we finally got to our room, towels were missing. As stated in other reviews, the rooms are extremely noisy (you can hear every sound from the hallway) which is unfortunate. Split King Rooms facing the bush were nice, with nice view and comfortable beds. Buffet breakfast was really nice. Nice atmosphere in the bar and lounge area where families and couples could have a casual meal and play games. The food was of good quality, although very expensive, which was expected. The laundry facilities were appreciated, however, at $5 per drying cycle in a very old machine that didn’t work very well, it was a bit disappointing.

Overall, we enjoyed our time at the Cradle Mountain Hotel, however had interrupted sleep. We were impressed by the buffet breakfast, and the cozy atmosphere of the hotel. We might stay here again, but would be interested in trying one of the other hotels nearby.

We stayed at the cradle mountain hotel for two nights in February 2022. The location of this hotel could not be better to explore the stunning vistas of the cradle mountains area and the hotel offers a great deal for its guests. The parking area is large and gravelled which must be helpful in snowy conditions.
The overall ambience is light and airy and our room was spacious with a sliding door to a small balcony that you could leave open if you wanted fresh air but even in summer we used the heater at night.
The hotel has a large shop and gallery area which we would have investigated more if we had more time there, it was a short walk across the parking area and there was also a short boardwalk hike around the main hotel area.
There are several communal areas with fires lit even in summer from the late afternoon and many people were sitting in these areas for drinks.
Generally the staff were friendly, helpful and happy to service the guests. The hotel has a full bar and both buffet and a la carte menus available. The food menu’s were fairly expensive but the portions were generous and good quality.
This hotel is a comfortable stay in an area renowned for its walking and wildlife and considering the remoteness of this location probably good value for money and definitely superior to others we saw in the area.
