Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Spacious, well appointed cabins in a great location. We were pleasantly surprised with what our cabin offered.
We had trekked to Cradle Mntn thru rain & wind & were eager to book into our cabin that evening. The first thing noted was how warm the cabin was, due to an electric heater already on, set to 25°! All our clothing/footwear worn that day was wet on arrival, however dry by next morning!
The cabins are situated in an enchanted forest setting right next to the historic Waldheim Chalet,
actually WITHIN the park, very near the beginning of the Overland Track, meaning you can get an early start hiking without having to wait for transport. The amenities block was close by, with plenty of hot water, spacious & clean.

10/10 stay. The photos show a true representation of the cabins. The spot hands down the best Australia has to offer. After 7pm the last bus leaves and you have the park pretty much all to yourselves. Once in a lifetime opportunity to hang out with wombats just you & your family. We put our caravan into storage to stay here and so glad we did.
Bring your own water and more food than you think you need.
We also caught the bus to peppers to have a drink by the fire it was beautiful.
Bookings hard to come by so log in the day the bookings open to secure.
CAUTION when entering park you have to follow the park buses, we thought we took a wrong turn to Waldheim so caught back up with the bus only to be told off by the bus driver who was quiet unreasonable.

Basic, functional cabins, better than most backpackers accommodation. Clean and highly suitable as a base for walking or hiking. Close to the trail head so you don't need to rely on the shuttle buses. Quiet, except for the wildlife. Wombats everywhere!
Warm and cosy. Walks for all ages possible. Plenty of space for a car parked at your cabin. Shared shower and toilet - clean, flushing toilets, hot showers.

I stayed at Waldheim Cabins for one night prior to setting off on the Overland Track.

This is basic accommodation but I have given it a very good rating because it is better than the online literature suggests, it is historic, it is in a great location for walkers (and easily accessible by car), the huts are well equipped and warm.

There are a variety of sizes of hut all with bunk style beds with foam rubber type mattresses. You can use your own bedding (eg sleeping bag) or you can order linen and towels at the time of making your booking. The huts themselves are well equipped with gas stoves, fridges, pots and pans, crockery, cutlery etc. Thery have very effective electric radiator heating.

The location of the huts is brilliant for walkers. You are on the very doorstep of the Overland Track and many day walks.

Two points to note (1) there are no shops etc at Waldheim Cabins so you need to bring foodstuffs etc with you; and (2) toilets and showers are in a communal ablution block which is clean with good hot water in the showers but basic.

I did not take any photos of the cabins but there are good representative photos at the following link:

My daughter and I stayed one night prior to starting the Overland Track in January 2013. It is only 60 meters from the start of the track so it is a great location to acclimatise and enjoy Cradle Mountain before you start the Track. The cabins are very clean and well provisioned with cups, plates, cooking utensils and a stove. The communal bathroom/toilets were clean also. The scenery is amazing and wildlife was just everywhere. Highly recommend if you are either starting the Track or just want a few days to unwind.

Amazingly beautiful cottage, worth every dollar. We would recommend to stay here over the Lodge or the Holiday Park. This place is totally magical. Back to basics, totally surrounded by serenity. And a fantastic place to launch your overland Trek from, or just a simple day walk! Do it. You will not forget this place.

Cradle Mountain National Park is an extraordinary place. There are so many options here, from short walks of half an hour all the way to the five day long Overland Track. Bunya Cabin at Waldheim is amongst the King Billy pines, myrtles and pandani, and right next to the reconstructed Waldheim Hut, built by Gustav Weindorfer and his wife Kate at the start of last century. It is astonishing, and has been set up to tell the story of the couple and their dedication to having Cradle Mountain declared a national park, for all to enjoy.

We arrived in the snow (in January) and found our two-bunk cabin tiny but clean and well equipped. The convection heater kept s cosy, and we were able to cook on the full electric stove and oven. There are power points so we were able to charge our camera batteries. The single bunks had good mattresses and we'd taken our own bedding. The toilets and showers are close- very clean with good hot water for warming up after bush walking in the rain.

The view at the end of the cabins is stunning, across the button grass plains of Cradle Valley and up to Cradle Mountain. There are stands of ancient pandani, myrtle and King Billy pines, and pademelons and Bennett's wallabies graze everywhere. You need to be equipped for all kinds of weather when you come to Cradle Mountain, but a walk in the sleet up to Wombat Pools was a highlight of our trip.

The cabins are comfortable but basic. What you get however is quite amazing:
- a lovely area around cabins with animals in abundance
- walks starting points
- your car inside the park! no more bus shuttles
- very reasonably priced accommodation

This is the best accommodation in the park as you don't rely on the bus shuttles which stop running after 7pm. You have access to your car and you're free to move around when the park is full.
The cabins are great, basic, but really what kind of accommodation would you want inside a national park? and the area around the cabins is absolutely gorgeous.

Tips:
Take drinking water with you, water in the cabin was not great unless you boil it
Go for a walk at dusk with a camera, animals everywhere and you can get very close to them.
The dove lake circuit walk is so peaceful after 7pm when most tourists are back on shuttle buses. Go early or late if you want to take some nice photographs.

Loved staying at Waldheim Cabins. Loved the special access and the proximity to the walks. It was basic but had a stove and oven and pots and pans. We ordered the bedding pack which included sheets, pillow, doona and a towel.
NEED TO REMEMBER
This is in a National Park bring WATER (as tap water IS NOT for drinking) and all you want to eat as it is pricey to get supplies.

I stayed at Beltana 1 bunkhouse with 6 bunkbeds. Basic kitchen and dining table with heater. Great place to stay as you're in the park so you'll be able to get to the key places within minutes like Ronnie's creek and Dove lake. You can also see wallabies near the bunkhouse and wombats close by. Toilets and Showers are within 1 minute walk. There wasn't a heater in the womens shower. If you are getting linen, please double check with Visitor Information centre and request for after hours contact number if you are arriving after closing time. I had organised for linen and was told the linen would be in the cabins. However our group arrived late and found no linen in the cabin. We weren't able to find an after hours contact. We ended up sleeping in our woolies on our first night. We went to Visitor info the next day and told them what happened. They apologised and ensured linen would be provided the second night. We were also refunded the linen costs for both nights. I would stay here as it's within the park so you get the wonderful experience of seeing wildlife, go on the various hikes, experience the cold weather at night and being in nature!
