We can’t offer you the moon and the stars at The Menai Hotel, or a gown and slippers. What we can promise you though is a comfortable, clean room with reliable hot water, free WiFi, Foxtel, LCD TV, microwave oven and a bedside alarm clock radio, all within easy reach of most things that brought you to this part of the world. Every room also provides a refrigerator, tea and coffee facilities, a private bathroom, heaters and electric blankets as well as a writing desk. Toasters, irons and hairdryers are available on request. Some rooms have satellite TV. Our rooms are perfects for the business traveller, for a getaway for two and also for families in need of somewhere to rest their heads while they make their way around our beautiful island. Ample free parking is provided in site. The Menai restaurant is open 6 nights a week (Monday – Saturday) for evening meals, commencing at 5:30PM. Guests enjoy discounted meals, with 50% off on Monday to Thursday, and 25% on other nights. Loi’z Bar is the ideal spot to enjoy a cold beverage and friendly service. It offers a dart board and 8-ball tables as well as a cosy wood heater fired up on those chilly evenings. Counter meals are available six nights a week. We are just a 10-minute walk from the middle of town, where you can visit The Burnie Arts and Function Centre, or an extra few minutes will take you to the waterfront boardwalk where you can watch the Penguins returning to their nests any evening around sunset. By car we are about: 5 minutes from Fern Glade Reserve 15 minutes from Emu Valley Rhododendron Gardens 20 minutes from Guide Falls Alpaca and Animal Park Cradle Mountain is about an hour and a half away, as is The Tarkine Wilderness region. A slightly shorter drive will take you to The Nut at Stanley. Brochures are available to help you plan your next tour and it may be worthwhile to have a chat with your host, Leigh Newman to pick up some of the finer points about the island home he knows so well.

I have stayed here a few times now with my family and have enjoyed each stayed.
The rooms are wonderful, always clean and tidy and the cleaners do a very good job at keeping everything clean. Our rooms got serviced daily and we are always well looked after. We stay there normally for a few days at a time, and I wouldn't go anywhere else.
We are always looked after and welcomed every time. Ever since the new ownership and management, everything is improving from the rooms we stay in, to the service we receive.
Well done to the new owners and management on bringing the hotel back to how it should be.

My mate and I stayed here for one night and as such we were looking for budget accomodation. This Motel met our requirements with a very basic - but clean - room. The weather was cool so the wall strip heater was sufficient but I have doubts about how it would be on a hot night with no cooling. The TV provided was the smallet than my computer moniter but did the job.If you stay here ask for a front room as being on a hillside there is quite a nice view over the city and harbour from the front.

The rooms are very reasonably priced, clean and functional. Not far from Burnie CBD and free parking. I thought the facilities here were good. The bar and restaurant were relaxed, reasonably priced and a pleasant way to end your day. The lady who ran the bar and restaurant was awesome, friendly and super helpful. She made our stay that much better. Would happily come back here.

The menai has long been a Burnie staple, and back in the day, it was the place to be to see some of the biggest Aussie bands of the time. As happens in many towns over time, it blurred into the background of Burnie and lost some charm. So when we visited family for a weekend away and heard the Menai was doing breakfast and offering a month of buy one brekky and get one free, we thought we'd give it a go.
Well... A revamp/Reno of the bar into a fabulous restaurant/Cafe style space with beautiful views of bass straight, and fabulous service, gave us good vibes and happiness for our morning feels. But nothing could have prepared us for how incredible the food would be. Apart from the fact that 4 of us ordered food that included the Chefs award winning (best in Tasmania 2022) sourdough bread, which was absolutely fresh, flavourful and authentic, the meals were incredible and had us all (group of 6), captured, and planning our next visit. Our 5 year old raised her arms halfway through her crepes and a hashbrown to exclaim " best food ever!"
Highly recommend and cannot wait to go back !!

Unfortunately I needed to stay due to a temporary emergency... Unfortunately it was so bad I went back to sleep in my car.

Bedbugs riddled the beds. (Was given an upgrade and that had bedbugs too! So I checked out)

Filthy vents, room smells like cigarettes and musky... very poor lighting even with lights on so dark. Carpets stained with who knows what all over the hotel. Questionable people staying there...
Worst hotel experience. On a positive I did get refunded the nights I didn't stay.

Place is almost non salvageable but they aren't even trying to keep up with basic hygiene.

We visited the restaurant attached to this hotel for a night time meal. New owners have made some changes which are very noticeable its clean and bright. Some of the history features of the complex have also been revived. The menu was varied and reasonably priced. Not long after ordering it was delivered tot he table . It was HOT and clearly freshly cooked. Schnitzels were home made not pre packaged will get my tick every time. Side salad was very tasty and chips were crispy and hot. We had a budget meal and it was ample for us. Prices were on par with other places we have visited. Nice to see this once busy restaurant is now once again selling and delivering some top range food at reasonable prices. The view out the window is interesting of the wharf area whilst waiting for your meal. NICE PLACE and OWNERS.

The Menai Hotel Motel has been part of the landscape at Burnie for a long time and it is a busy watering hole in a town where drinking is a popular activity. Having stayed at a few places in the Burnie area over the years I thought I would give it a go because I was intrigued by its enormous size and I wondered what the accommodation would actually be like. My only reservation was that the hotel was more of a pub than a hotel and that the noise from the bar would be annoyingly loud. For this reason I booked a deluxe suite, thinking that anything called a suite would have to be free from bar noise and unappealing people. I could not have been more correct. The room itself was old fashioned and rather charming because of it. A large sitting area was pleasantly furnished, the bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom was small but perfectly adequate and well appointed. Cable TV and wifi were very good. There was a microwave/kitchenette/bar-fridge galley which made simple self catering easy. Housekeeping was friendly and very informal (“You don’t need anything do you?”). The room was extremely pleasant, private and very quiet even though there were functions on in the bar area on each of the nights I was there. The most unexpected and delightful feature of the suite was the view. Large picture windows facing north gave a spectacular view of Burnie and the Bass Strait. During the day the sunshine flooded the room without making it too hot or startling and at night they delivered the most unexpectedly beautiful panorama of the city, its lights stretching out into the darkness of the ocean. Burnie is not what you would call a physically attractive place. A century of urban ugliness and industrial waste has left its mark on what was once a beautiful bay on the Bass Strait, but from this room at the Menai hotel Burnie looked quite spectacular, which is saying something. I was sorry to leave the Menai Hotel and I hope that somehow the hotel resists the temptation to update the suites with 21st century furniture and fittings because they way they are right now is very pleasant and comfortable indeed.

I was a bit unsure about staying here because of the previous reviews but i took the risk, and it was worth it. They have accommodation, a restaurant and a bar all under the same roof. The meal was appealing and filling and not to mention tasty, and because we were in house guests, they gave us a 15% discount on all meals. The service was exceptional, with someone always there to help us with any enquires. The room was basic, but very clean, and with the free wifi we couldn't go wrong, also a $5 continental breakfast was offered and we took the offer, ONLY $5 FOR BREAKFAST. The manager even upgraded us to a room with Foxtel.
I would definitely come back and stay here again without a second thought.
Free Wifi, Friendly Staff, BIG tasty meals, Cold Beverages...
You won't be disappointed if you stay at The Menai Hotel Motel.

Rates as probably the worst accommodation I have stayed in - backpackers is better! Old and dated. Carpet was dirty. Vent in bathroom was filthy. Bathroom was so small that I had to climb over the toilet to get into the shower. Put the hot water on, then go and make yourself a cup of coffee. By the time you get back it might be warm - but not always! Walls are paper thin allowing you to join in all conversations with your neighbour! One night was freezing cold but windows will not shut properly! Bed was clean (that I could see) but base was old and knackered so that when you sat on the bed both ends of the mattress came up to meet you! Going to the Osteopath today to fix my back! TV is the smallest screen I have seen - I have a bigger screen on my computer! Breakfast was unimaginable. Continental but you get it yourself. One morning I went in and what looked like the street stragglers were all asleep on the settees! Another morning I found all last nights dirty beer glasses, empty bottles and a platter of sandwiches nicely turning up at the edges! No water to make coffee. And then there was the food. I ordered scallops the first night - $29 but that's okay. What I got wasn't! It was a tasteless plate of mush! The second night I thought I was brave and ordered prawns - again about $29 and pretty much the same as the first night! If you like French fries, then they are okay! On the third night we gave up and went to a delightful seafood restaurant (Fish Frenzy I think it was called) and the food was divine and cost a third of what we got in the hotel! The best one though had to be when my partner ordered the Roast of the day and asked what it was. She was told that it was leftover roast beef from the night before - it looked like it too! Frankly I would not have stayed in her room - it was like a prison cell and stunk! Room 9. Mine was marginally better - Room 11. So all in all, not a pleasant weekend!

Recently stayed at this place and, judging by the pics and the $110 a night, assumed it would be pretty good... boy was I wrong.
The licensed restaurant and Bar/lounge were closed for the Christmas/New year period, as was reception!! Check-in was noted as 2pm, however when we got there and found a phone number to call, the caretaker informed us that he was out to lunch and wouldn’t be back til 4.
2hrs later we finally got our rooms, only to find them tiny, run down & tired, with a bathroom the size of a closet, and a small bar fridge from the 70’s that wasn’t even turned on. We quickly dumped our stuff and went out for the evening. When arriving back that night we struggled to sleep due to the train that seemed to be outside our window, and the yelling & arguing from the room down the hall.
Thank god we were only there 1 night!!
