Detailed Reviews
I stayed in the motel section which is a bit old and in need of renovation. It is a short 5 minute walk into town. The room was clean and the service was friendly. The continental buffet breakfast was good.

The bed was perfect & cosy -
The shower was hot and perfect
Breakfast supplied was just perfect
Good location with a quick walk to the main shops & restaurants too
Mmm the service was crap! No welcome to Tasmania.. " just here's your key and do you want milk"

Wellers Inn is located up high in Queen Street with views over the harbour and town. It is within easy walking distance of the city centre and conveniently located near the tourist information office (Maker's Workshop) which commemorates the age of paper mills and paper making, and also nearby fairy penguins can be viewed in the evening at the water's edge.
Wellers Inn is very clean and comfortable and reasonably priced.

We stayed 1 night, and it was great.
Checkin was a lovely experience, the room was nice and clean, and the bed was very comfy. It was the little things that really impressed us. Reasonably priced mini bar, good-sized wine glasses. But best of all, they had mugs for morning coffee, not those silly little cups.
Just down the end of the street, we went and saw the local penguin colony.

The manager's oddly detached greeting spoke volumes about the stay. Perhaps he was perplexed (as was I, in retrospect) as to why I would stay there more than one night. The room was, in a word, shabby. The light had fallen out of the ceiling and was dangling by the cables, there was a large patch of visible rot showing in the windowsill and there was no smoke detector - I'm sure a breach of Aust. Standards, building codes and certainly common sense on behalf of the owners. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and the cooked breakfast was huge. For the price I paid, I think I got a dud. I won't be going back - I'd rather pay a bit more and have a better experience elsewhere.

We booked two nights here, and only stayed because the booking was not refundable.
Poorly maintained, basic things neglected (torn fly screen, bubbling paint, bedside table broken, dodgy door handle and light to bathroom, nowhere to put soap in shower other than on the floor).
Not recommended.

Very disappointing accommodation option taken at premium price for the Spa Suite. It was an old house divided into two and the quality of an old flat. The picture taken for the net is of the new bathroom with huge spa bath but the rest is tired, sleezy and poorly presented. I did tell the man at reception of my disappointment but of course he was unmoved, he had my credit card ! This hotel, we are told, has recently changed ownership at the end of 2010 and as we have stayed before we noticed a definite decline in style and service.

Very pleasant check in and helpful service when booking but the room was not clean, and reeked of smoke. There was hair in the bed and on pillows and what I suspect were bed friends. A very sleepless and itchy night.

The guy at the front counter was great, very friendly and helpful. I thought the price was a bit rich, given the room I stayed in, which was right up the back in a tired lack-lustre block of rooms. The room and bed were comfortable, but hot tap water was discoloured, and I never been in a motel room that wasn't air-conditioned before (?). I didn't use any of the in-house facilities due to my short stay.
All-in-all...clean, neat, comfortable.
