When I booked this place I wasn’t aware how far away from everything it is until I had paid for it and got directions. The directions given I followed but I hated the road (gravel, and height driving out). This is a personal thing as I don’t like heights. Whilst in the main part I finally found a local at Get Shucked Oysters (a must visit) and asked about the alternate route into our accommodation (via Killora). I was advised this was much better and it was. It’s still gravel but not big drop offs to your side. All in all the accommodation is lovely. The winter sun shines in most of the day and keeps the place so warm. Driveway a bit scary with recent rainfall ruts but advised hotel of this.

We spent two nights here and honestly sitting on that deck watching the sun go down while eating Bruny Is. cheese, oysters, smoked salmon and wine was the highlight of our entire stay! It's really worth forking out a little bit extra on your accommodation and staying here to enjoy the peace, the view, and the wonderful amenities this 'cabin' has to offer.

The views really are fantastic. We stayed for 3 nights in January ( summer) but it was so cold and windy it felt like winter. The house was warm though. The house is situated on the northern part of Bruny Island, it is a long way to the shop ( really small "supermarket") so I suggest bringing most food you will need with you from the Kingston supermarket, bread, long life milk, breakfast cereal, eggs etc. The bedrooms are comfortable, the bed cosy. We slept very well, it is so quiet, and hardly any passing traffic. There are 2 bathrooms, both with really bad water saving shower heads, surely there are better ones available now ! And some of the kitchen implements and saucepans need replacing, but that was the only problems we had. We saw the quolls on the patio each night. I can recommend the Bruny Hotel for lunch, and we bought blueberries from the berry farm, cheese from the B I cheese makers, oysters from the B I oyster shuckers, wine from the vineyard, and the best was BISH - we got smoked quail, salmon and trout and a fantastic smoked trout teriyaki pate.
There is a washer and dryer - and these came in handy after our adventure boat cruise.

We stayed at Captains Cottage for 3 nights in early November. When we first arrived their was a greasy smell throughout the cottage, we believe this is because the bbq was stored inside, we moved the BBQ outside and ventilated the cottage, which improved the smell. The cleanliness was average, the kitchen had been wiped down but had streak marks all over it, as if cleaned with dirty cloth. There was no cleaning products in the kitchen. The bedrooms required dusting and the laundry area was disorganised/messy. The freezer needs defrosting and cleaning out. The bathrooms were very clean however. The mattress on the beds are terrible, very springy and noisy. The bedrooms have nice sheer blinds at the windows but no curtains for full block out so you are awake at the crack of dawn every morning. The outside furniture isn't very practical if you want to site on the deck to eat. We did have a lot of fun collecting oysters off the rocks on the little beach. Unfortunately access to the beach from the house challenging, a safety issue the managers should address. We found the kitchen had every utensil you could possibly need as well as crockery, however a number of items needed washing before we used them. This holiday house did feel more like someones home we had stepped into rather than a holiday let. Overall the price you pay is probably worth it solely based on location and views. We did have a great time here, Bruny overall is a magical untouched destination.

About five minutes after we arrived Captains Cabin another couple turned up who had also booked for the same dates. After 1/2 hour on the phone other accommodation was found for this couple (lucky for us we got their first...i think...). The house had a great back deck with nice views of the water. The downside was getting to the beach....the walk from the front of the house to the beach is quite hard. The beach itself is very nice, It was described as luxury accommodation, I would have expected polished timber floors not particle flooring with nails sticking out. The website also stated that basic provisions were provided however this was not the case.....the items provided were old and the containers they were kept in quite dirty. Needless to say we had to buy our own basics including powder for the dishwasher. The nearest shop was at Adventure Bay which is a 35 minute drive. Apart from this the house was clean and tidy, comfy beds, nice furniture and had a washing machine and dryer (huge box of washing powder provided).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this “cabin” for 2 nights on April 17-18, 2017. It is located at the northern end of Bruny Island, just outside the village of Dennes Point. You will not be disturbed by anyone, so you will have a completely relaxing time. Just remember to buy all food and supplies before you catch the ferry across.

The house has everything you need - a full kitchen (with plenty of utensils, pans & bits/pieces), lounge & dining area, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, washing machine & dryer, and fabulous verandah with bbq. There is even a very short path down to the beach! Basically, it’s your home away from home with great views.

We had no issues with our stay. If we had a wish, the only thing to improve the cabin would be to have a king size bed in one bedroom. The current bed is however very comfortable and we had great nights’ sleep.

Thank you for a great stay.

After some dubious stays in Tasmania in so called luxury accommodation, we held our breath as we drove to Captains Cabin. It literally took our breath away from the moment we pulled up. The view is sensational, the staff friendly, efficient and extremely helpful. The cabin is just gorgeous, fully equipped and so comfortable. We felt at home immediately. As we only stayed one night at short notice, we took all of our food and drinks so had no need to go to the shop. Sitting on the deck looking over the chanel, watching turtles, birds and fish go past, sipping champagne and strawberries - life does not get much better then this. The beds were very comfortable, brilliant showers, great kitchen - fully equipped. The only problem was we had to leave to go home. I strongly recommend this stay for anyone - particularly couples who are not after a busy holiday, just arrive, destress and have a relaxing time. The Weber BBQ was great on the deck for cooking our dinner. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Have already re booked for 2013 for a longer stay. Thank you for providing truly wonderful accommodation with the most amazing views. The CW's - both over 50!!

We stayed for 3 nights in January 2012.no problems with the booking.rang the agent when catching the ferry at Kettering and given a code to key box.like others were not totally impressed as we drove in but that soon changed. The view from the deck is fantastic. The weather was really cold so we sat just inside the glass doors and just admired the view whilst partaking of the local food offerings.
Sure not everything here is first class but you are on an Island with just a ferry access. You cant expect big city 5 star opulence.for the price paid we thought it excellent value.
We also played host to the Quolls in the evenings though i suspect 2 different families. On the first night the predominant colour was a deep black whilst the next 2 nights they were light brown.Quite a few different birds also seen during our stay.
I cant agree that beach access is difficult.I am due for a knee replacement in 6 weeks, get sciatica and have a peripheral neuropathy yet i had no problems down and back to the beach. And yes there are lots of oysters though the mussels were mainly very small-probably over harvested.
can thoroughly reccomend.

We loved our stay in this cottage. The view back to Hobart is amazing and constantly changing with the sun and/or cloud cover. The country road has minimal traffick (2 days here and we would have been lucky to see/hear a dozen cars). Apart from the sheep in a nearby paddock, there is virtually no noise as you can barely see your one neighbour. Sitting on the balcony for breakfast watching the water, it was hard to leave to go and tour the island. We will definitely be back, for a longer stay next time.

What an amazing place to stay, we arrived at dusk with just enough light left to enjoy the stunning 180 degree views from the deck, the lovely owner Mhyrlyn had given us easy directions to follow after we left the ferry, so we had no trouble finding our little piece of heaven. We were so impressed with the detail and care that had been put into the design and decorating of the cabin, two large bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sleek well equipped kitchen, comfortable leather chairs and timber dining suite and a luxury four poster bed, what more could we ask for. Well the next morning we found out just how much more there was waiting for us, the water views were magnificent and the snow capped mountains in the distance simply perfect, a short walk down the hill and our own private beach was waiting, such a pretty spot to start our holiday, the only thing we didn't like....having to leave !

I have written in about this review previously and it was not published. The person who left this review is not on our guest list. I noticed that other reviews written by this person are all negative, especially so about Bruny Island. If a guest has a genuine issue with the property we encourage them to contact reception as soon as possible so that we can remedy any problems they are experiencing. Waiting until departing from the property to put in a complaint is not at all helpful either to the guest or management.
