Accomodation was rustic but excellent. We took a fully filled group of car enthusiastists and they looked adter us extremely well.Nice nibbles and good basic roast at very reasonable price.
Next a BBQ done by manager rather than a bun fight worked well and again reasonable quality and good price particularly given location and staffing isdues.
Would recomend and go again

Quirky overnight family stay in the Yard Run after New Year. Room contained a microwave, small bar fridge and kettle - enough for basic needs. The room was very comfortable, however we could hear the person in the adjoining room as there were lots of gaps in the ceiling / roof. Not so much of an issue for us, however our children possibly disturbed the other guest (despite our attempts to keep them as quiet as possible during our stay). The grounds are wonderful to explore, and the resident animals are a joy (however beware the cow horns!). The babbling stream running through the property was lovely, however we didn't manage to see the platypus. The owner was a wonderful guide and regaled us with stories of the history of the place. It was a lovely, peaceful stay in the highlands. Remember to take all the food you will need, as there are very few shops in the area!

As part of a group of 19 guests for lunch at this historical farm, the experience was outstanding. We enjoyed a delightful meal of lamb from the farm and a beautiful crumble for desert. There was a good selection of drinks available and I had the most delightful South African Cab Sav.

We were occasionally entertained by the host with tales from the history of the farm which is the location of the oldest golf club in Australia.

This country property is only one hour from Hobart and is well worth the journey.

I cannot speak too highly of the food, service and ambience.

Stayed at Ratho Farm over the Easter break for a wedding, and was left a little disappointed with the accommodation we had, can't speak for the other accommodation available. We stayed in the Fisherman cabins, basically upgraded old building, with three rooms, each with an en-suite. The vanity, which is right next to the shower, had a big chunk out of the front corner closest to shower, undoubtedly due to moisture.
Being Easter, the price was a premium, $250 for the night, for 2 adults. No $250 dollar a night accommodation should have a shower curtain, one towel each, and a bathroom floor that is damp to say the least after using the shower.
The room is basic, King bed, electric blanket (only one side worked), 3 coat hangers (one broken), one chair, one luggage stand, bar fridge and electric jug, TV, A/C.
So yeah, for the price, which is normally $200, still not worth it.

Met upon arrival - very friendly and informative about the arrangements. Escorted to the accommodation which is an old convict hut that has been beautifully arranged. The wow factor was very high - all clean and well appointed.

Dinner was optional in the communal dining room with cheese, quince and dry biscuits served by in the lounge with other guests by the open fire. Dinner was delicious and plentiful and a brief history lesson about the property was delivered prior to sweets being served. A very pleasant evening indeed.

Once we returned to our room, we quickly discovered that the adjoining accommodation discussion could be easily heard in our room and I’m sure vise versa too. The noise travelled between the 2 rooms transparently, leaving any privacy or intimacy out of the question.

I mentioned this to the manager upon checking out and they acknowledged the problem which they had known about for 5 months and are going to do something about it when they have time to rectify it. There was no offer of restitution and both rooms should simply not be made available until the situation is overcome.

Such a shame that such a perfect stay was less than satisfactory when the issue could have been easily overcome months ago. The cost of the accommodation was fine if this issue didn’t exist but quite frankly I would not stay here again due solely to this known issue that has not been rectified.

We stayed at Ratho for our friends wedding which included two nights and 3 days of celebration. We had the whole place booked and access to all of the kitchens, dining room, atrium and grounds. We had a lovely time and ate very well with meals we prepared ourselves, everyone contributing produce. My partner and I had decided we would extend our stay for a few days of well earned rest. We were very disappointed. Our room although lovely, was serviced once during the entire time we stayed (4 nights 5 days). We had to ask for towels when a cleaner was cleaning in the neighbouring vacated room. On another occasion we had to walk up to the homestead, find the host and ask (in front of other guests) for toilet paper, cups and glasses as we had been in left with none. We then had to follow the host around whilst these items were found and unceremoniously handed to us to carry back to our room. Our dinner that evening was late, lengthy predinner drinks poorly catered and our meal served in the cold and drafty atrium. My lamb option was sliced roast, served stone cold and grey. A potato and sweet potato bake was raw in the middle and chewy on the outside, accompanied by a few spinach leaves with diced, cold, cooked pumpkin and one tiny cube of feta, no dressing. We assembled guests then had to sit and listen to a VERY lengthy and boring 'history' of Ratho Farm and the colonialists who founded it. There was no mention of the original inhabitants Tasmanian Aboriginals, let alone recognition. Not a destination we will be revisiting unless once again the whole site is booked and utilised to better effect.

While the setting is picturesque the accomodation itself did not live up to expectations.

Our room was the Granery and while quaint and cute on the surface, it was lacking facilities for a family of four. The kitchen facilities were a bar fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave, tea/coffee etc. but not a single plate or bowl to be able to eat your toast or anything you might want to heat in the microwave (fun when you have a three year old who wants to eat long before breakfast is available at the homestead).

As far as cleanliness, it could have been better. I had to wash several dark hairs down the drain in the shower, and there were hand prints on walls that could have easily been wiped off. The curtain at the door is too long and as a result the bottom of it is filthy. Chairs on the veranda are dirty and is disrepair. Also, there’s quaint and rustic but dining chairs as bedside tables?

In the bathroom, the shower has no soap holder or anywhere to put your toiletries. Speaking of which, we are lucky we brought our own because the only toiletries provided were the soap/shampoo in the shower which was almost empty and the hand wash at the basin. As a very experienced traveler, I’ve definitely come to expect more for $275 a night.

We chose to eat dinner at the homestead with the promise of an old fashioned 3 course roast dinner. While there was nothing ‘wrong’ with it and it was tasty enough, it didn’t really live up to expectations for the $45 a head price. Entree’ consisted of a cheese platter (two cheeses with crackers, chutney and a couple of strawberries and olives which my kids devoured in a matter of seconds.) The main roast dinner was a haphazard but tasty enough basic salad, boiled potatoes, a couple of pieces of baked sweet potato and the meat of your choice (I chose lamb which was delicious). Dessert was apple and raspberry crumble. No complaints there although, on arrival host Michael suggested the kids might like to share a meal instead of paying for one each so I would have assumed the portions were going to be enormous. Don’t get me wrong, the portion sizes were perfectly adequate but have you ever asked two kids to share dessert from the same plate? Recipe for disaster. The addition of kids size meals at a lower price would be ideal.

Overall, the beds were comfortable and clean and our stay wasn’t bad, it just didn’t live up to the hype of some of the amazing reviews and in my opinion was not what you would expect for the price.

A wonderful place that seems to have forgotten we are in 2024.

A unique working farm, BnB style accommodation, wedding venue, holiday stop it could really be anything you would like it to be for your trip.

The Rstho family are exactly that, they invite you into their home and make you feel like you live there.

The hospitality and relaxed make your own approach makes this absolutely beautiful location a must.

All of the accommodation has been respectfully restored to keep the old and historic feel but with all the modern amenities.

The golf course is a tricky one but worth a hit and the not to mention the resident platypus in the river Clyde, the random wombat that strolls through the cottages to wherever he is going. The grazing sheep and cattle.

This place is just magical.

We stayed 4 nights at Ratho for pur wedding.
We booked everything online as we are from Central Queensland, the place doe not disappoint.
Perfect for families, couples, groups of friends you name it the wonderful group will make your trip 💙

We 3 couples have just spent a lovely 2 nights at Ratho Farm.
Using a Luxury Escapes package, we all agreed it was very good value.
We stayed in the stables I think, which had 4 bedrooms , all with ensuites going off a communal kitchen.
It would have been even better if we had of had a seperate sitting area going off the bedrooms as sitting in the kitchen wasn’t all that comfortable as a group of 6
The bedrooms were large, very comfortable and warm and the kitchen very functional.
We also had a deck out front which received the afternoon sun.
We had a look at some of the other cottages and they also looked lovely, especially those down by the river.
The whole place was very quiet and relaxing.
Dinner at night was up in the farmhouse in a new atrium with pre dinner drinks and cheese platter around an open fire in a lovely old room.
Our 2 course menu provided a choice of steak, salmon, pork or lamb with vegs, potato bake plus desert…all home cooked … yum so thank you Anita and Miriam.
We were very lucky to have the owner Greg provide us some readings from his family diaries about the history of Ratho farm and his family.
It was really interesting and we enjoyed his passion of Ratho
Drinks were available to purchase… craft beer, wine, spirits or whatever took your fancy.
Breakfast in our case was continental but fully cooked was also available for additional cost.
We had coffee/tea , juice, cereal, yogurt, toast, eggs again around shared tables like dinner.
Golf was also on the agenda and we inexperienced golfers toiled around the 18 holes, losing balls on a regular basis and hitting many more shots than we should have, but it was well worth the experience, even if our bodies were screaming the next day.
Overall a very enjoyable couple of nights thank you .
Rob

We stayed at Ratho farm as we bought a package through Luxury Escapes. This was not luxury by any means but rather a rustic escape.
The things I liked were large, well appointed ensuite, the farm environment and the meal included in the package was enjoyable.
What I didn’t enjoy. The room is very small so that bed very close to wall and hard to get in and out of. There was no remote for the TV, although once informed they quickly fixed the problem. There are mugs but no drinking glasses. The body wash container was empty. This is quite a remote location and the local pub was not open so on second night we couldn’t find anywhere to eat. On the first night I asked for lamb but when it was being served I was forgotten and when I pointed that out I was given the last little bit, which was gristly. The rest of the home cooked meal was very nice though.

Hi, All rooms have private ensuite bathrooms. We have 16 suites. Four of these are two bedroom suites. So 20 king beds. Most can be split to king singles. Also some other single beds around the rooms. Plus homestead rooms! Homestead has three bathrooms. Thanks for your question. Hope you had a great stay. Ratho Farm

Is here family accommodation for 2 adults and two under 12 year children?

Yes. Check availability as there are various room options. This is a rustic farm with charming garden, chickens, a creek and historic golf course. I think there may be a swing but there's not much for kids to do. Apart from eating at the farm, there are limited dining options nearby. We enjoyed our stay as it was a pleasant change from a motel/ b&b.
