This hotel was renovated in 2014, it feels like it was opened yesterday. Absolutely beautiful rooms, sensational staff and the most glorious restaurant. Stay here, you won't be disappointed.
The ensuite was an absolute pleasure - a beautiful bath with luxurious amenities.
Don't worry about being on the main street, every thing is double glazed, it is super quiet.

Wow... a carefully restored boutique hotel offering warm hospitality that only country towns can deliver! We stayed with a group of cycling friends and we were all thoroughly impressed with the quality of the rooms and amenities! After long days exploring the magnificent countryside, it was a joy to return to the cozy lounge and enjoy a red wine by the roaring fireplace.
Highly recommend to all those looking for a little bit of luxury with the country charm!

We stayed just one night in this beautiful old pub for a quick weekend getaway to the Granilte Belt wineries.. Rooms are beautifully decorated and renovated. Very quiet , warm and comfortable rooms ( much needed in the cold Tenterfield winter) .
The management was fantastic and made sure that we had dinner reservations for the Restaurant and even reservations for our pre dinner drinks by the open fire due to Covid regulations. Food at the restaurant was also exceptional. We will definitely be back.

The rooms are beautiful with large bathrooms and the decor is sympathetic to the era of the hotel but ultra modern. Location is great in the middle of town and close to cafes etc. We selected a room at the rear of the hotel to escape traffic noise of the main road. This costs extra however there was no escaping the noise from the hotel kitchen which was directly below our room. There were also some inconsiderate guests who decided to yell to each other in the hallway in the middle of the night. Shower was great the first morning but no hot water the 2nd morning. Due to COVID19 there were set dinning times of 1hr 15min, which normally isn't an issue but when it takes 45 minutes for your main to arrive, we didn't order an entre and you're being asked if you want dessert before you've finished your main, doesn't make for a great dining experience for the price you pay for the food. Comfortable bed but lack of a warm welcome from the manager and the high accommodation cost we won't be back again.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience at our hotel. With current Covid guidelines constantly evolving, we are doing everything we can to make our guests feel safe while maintaining safe social distancing practices and ensuring adequate hygiene practices in between dining sittings. Our aim is to keep our patrons safe , and also provide a cozy dining experience as much as we can. During peak dining times the kitchen is adapting to orders as quickly as possible. Thank you for your feedback, I will speak to staff to see if we can make any further adjustments. We have not had any other complaints about the lack of hot water, could you please contact the hotel directly to let us know which room you stayed in so we can rectify this problem.

We stayed one night here during July 2023 and absolutely loved it. The gentleman at the check in counter was very friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The room was cosy and delightful and the bathroom large and perfect. The window in the bedroom was double glazed so we didn’t hear any traffic during the night.

We went downstairs and had a local wine sitting beside the wood burning fire then went into the dining room for a delicious dinner. The staff at the bar and in the dining room were friendly and efficient and our meal was perfect.

Staying here is not cheap but we would class it as value for money and thoroughly enjoyable.

So we attempted to book in directly only to be told to use the website. After booking in to the pet friendly accommodation we were charged an extra $25 after the initial book .When I suggested this was deceptive to the owner they stated it was in the site, which it was buried in the terms and conditions.
Don't understand how you can book a room out as pet friendly then charge an extra cleaning fee?
When we arrived we were informed it was the room that opened up onto the main street , which is also the major highway to Brisbane!! Hardly suitable to take your dog out during the evening or daytime. We attempted to have a discussion about this, only to be dismissed with a stone-faced couple of people. No acknowledgement of our concerns. When I raised the issue of our 5mth GSD needing to be taken out during then night to relieve himself and it wouldn't be okay to do so on the main street, I was told I could walk him around the block to the park at the back of the hotel, about 750 m!
We need to have the noisy air con all night to have a warm room. We had to go out th efront door an dback into th ehotel to reach reception as the key we were given didn't open the internal door?
Finally ,we were told we had to park in the main street , which meant carrying our items from our car, which was about 25m away into the room, through the door , whilst preventing our dog from running out into the main street. Our car was also keyed whilst parked there at night!!
Wouldn't recommend this !
WE WON"T BE BACK

Congratulations on getting a dog! Dog's love going on road trips and 5 months old would certainly be a handful, but a joyous one for sure for them to be included on your journey. As travelling with your new puppy is all very new for you, I'd be happy to give you a heads up that it is standard practice for all hotels to charge a nightly surcharge for pets for cleaning. Naturally pet hair sheds and involves extra cleaning by our lovely cleaning staff to ensure the room is ready for our next guest. In fact most hotels charge between $40-$50 surcharge per night but we believe dogs should not be penalised at our hotel in our pet friendly street side room and so keep our nightly surcharge priced lower at $25 per night. Our pet friendly room is clearly labelled as 'street side' on our website and all our fur guest parents have given great feedback that they love that can literally walk straight outside onto the street to take their dog for walks whenever they want. Although it is not standard practice for hotels that provide pet friendly accommodation rooms to also provide a garden for their dogs to enjoy , we have ensured our hotel's back garden is entirely pet friendly to enjoy eating and drinking with your fur baby. There is a car spot on the street directly outside the street side room for you to park your car so you only have to walk a meter to your front door, I am unsure why you parked 25 meters away and it's very unfortunate your car was keyed where you parked, we certainly have not had that happen in all the years we have been running the hotel. Best of luck with your many future road trips with your dog, they are certainly worth it!

We spent three nights at the Commercial Hotel with 20 others on a bike riding adventure around Tenterfield. The hotel is on the main drag through the town but the rooms were surprisingly quiet.
There are about 8 rooms upstairs and they are all beautifully appointed - everything is new and tasteful.
Downstairs is the bar and dining area - again tasteful but typical country pub with open fire, comfy chairs and heaps of atmosphere.
Tenterfield is a hidden gem - thoroughly recommend a weekend escape.
Tim the owner was a great host.

Great location with off street parking. Friendly helpful staff on check-in and accommodating early check in was very much appreciated. Room 7 is a smaller room with a sitting room which has 2 comfortable chairs a built in robe and somewhere to place your luggage. The beds are comfortable although queen size and my personal preference is King. We needed an early nights sleep for an early start in the morning however, the noise from the restaurant music and furniture moving was quite loud from our room. We also had a lot of noise from the stairs and hallway from other travellers. This is the only reason I have not given five stars and I wouldn’t personally choose to stay next time.

Thank you for your favourable review of our hotel. I am sorry you were kept awake by the restaurant noise when you retired to bed early. Our staff are mindful that the noise travels to the rooms immediately above the restaurant and ensure to turn the music down and refrain from moving furniture after 9 pm on trading days to ensure our guests remain undisturbed .Unfortunately the exception to this is the festivities of our patrons enjoying New Year’s Eve celebrations in the restaurant and wine bar. I will speak to the staff that were rostered on for that night. We hope you will choose to stay with us during this new and exciting year of 2023 and we look forward to welcoming you back when you do.

The steak that I ordered was very fatty not to mention extremely undercooked ( I asked for medium but received rare). The mushroom sauce was $4 extra to the steak when it was already $44.

One of the employees kept redoing her hair at the bar and didn’t wash her hands afterwards ( I found this ver unhygienic).

But one of my family members said the wine was delicious ( she ordered a chardonnay and a shiraz).

Overall, this restaurant was VERY overpriced for what they served. The menu had options but I felt like they tried to be too fancy with it. It’s located at very nice venue.

Thank you for your review of our hotel, we are pleased to hear your family enjoyed their wine and their overall dining experience at our venue. I'm sorry your steak was not cooked to the grade you requested. It's unfortunate you didn't make one of our wait staff aware, as we would have been happy to correct the issue immediately. Please be aware that recently food costs have been rapidly increasing, but in particular the local steak has dramatically increased in price over the last 12 months. We pride ourselves on supporting local produce and small operators in town. The Scotch Rib that you ordered is a 350g piece of premium local beef. This is a large steak and comparable to other venues and believe that this is a reasonable price. Unfortunately customer price expectations generally don't keep pace with real inflation. If we do not keep pace then it would not remain be viable to open. I have spoken to the staff member in question to ensure that she follows appropriate procedures for hand hygiene. I hope you will try us again in the future.

This hotel has nothing but "craft" beer on tap, which is ok for some. But, at $10 a schooner, makes for a very overpriced round of drinks. For a country town pub, this is a total rip off; I'd expect their prices in some swank place in Sydney or Brisbane but not Tenterfield. Total rip-off. As for (lack of) value for money in the restaurant, don't start me!

We are very sorry you did not enjoy your dining experience with us in our Craft beer and Wine bar. We do indeed have a great selection of boutique craft beers both bottled and on tap as this is indeed what we specialise in. As well as showcasing great Australian boutique brewers, we also have a selection of common mainstream beers available in our Curve bar for those not inclined to try and support out local craft beer industry. We hope next time you travel we can entice you to pop in again and enjoy one of our ample mainstream substitutes instead.

Hi Rose, it's very quiet. The original hotel area has been turned into a boutique bar and restaurant. My advice would be to contact the Commercial direct to see if they have a function on if you are staying a weekend. I stay midweek for work. Overall super quiet rooms.
