Detailed Reviews
Having business in Richmond NSW my husband and I stayed 2 nights at Colonial Motel Richmond this week. We once lived in that area, remembered the Motel and noted that it had been refurbished recently, and it is conveniently situated mid town. Our tariff was $145 per night for a ground floor room with double bed and free parking. I made my booking via a phone call to the Motel, and after a long road trip checked in at 5pm on Monday.
On the plus side: the on-phone staff were friendly and helpful as were the reception staff. The car park in front of our unit meant we could have good access to unload and keep an eye on our vehicle. The bed was extremely comfortable and there were 4 comfy pillows and extras in the wardrobe and basic but adequate coffee, tea, milk etc.
On the minus side: before we left to meet friends for dinner, I checked the sliding door at the rear of our unit (covered by a curtain) and found it was unlocked, as was the sliding screen door.
Inside the entry front door the floor was tiled leading to a carpeted area which was dangerously lower than the edge of the tiled area. Not marked or mentioned as a danger. A trip hazard which I covered with a white towel.
While unloading our car in semi darkness, I tripped over the end of the 'car buffer' attached to the road-base car park surface and fell, damaging my elbow and knee. A motel staffer saw it happen, said she had done the same thing, and asked if I was ok. Apart from a severe knee and elbow graze I was fortunately unhurt, but pointed out to her that the buffer was not adequately marked and contravened health and safety regs as it was painted black and blended with the rough tarmac surface of the car park. I notified the reception desk prior to checking out and was told the member of staff had reported it.
Our unit was next to a 'private' room from which emanated a very loud, constant, motor sound, possibly a washing machine.
A further noise related minus, if you are staying more that one night, is that the Motel is very close to Richmond RAAF base and Tuesday is their 'circuits and bumps' practice day. Very noisy and constant during daylight hours.
We visit Richmond regularly on business and would not stay here again.

Not the newest motel but it has been refurbished in some areas, a little worn in others. The wifi was a weak point and rather frustrating. That said the staff were very helpful overall. The room was a decent size, our bed comfortable and the bathroom also a decent size and clean. W would stay again. Very pleasant check-in staff

We had a short stay here, location was perfect for walking to the shops and cafes, also the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, air conditioning was very efficient and quiet , which was great as we needed it. There is a communal grassed outdoor area which is nice if you want to sit outside

Good priced accommodation, comfortable beds and decent sized room. Air conditioning was noisy and couldn't be left on to sleep, however, made the room warm enough so wasn't a real issue. Had a nice dinner at the Royal Hotel.
Recommended for overnight stay.

Hi David B, Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay with us. I'm very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and the beds were comfortable / room was a good size. Thank you for the comment about the air-conditiong, we are actually in the process of replace all our standard room air-con units with split system air-cons, the standard rooms are the last of the rooms to be receiving this upgrade meaning in around 2 weeks time the whole motel will have these brand new units. Royal Hotel is nice and close and provides a good quality, reasonable priced meal. Glad you enjoyed your stay in the richmond area.

This typifies a Motel Room. It was not really clean and not really dirty, just a bit shabby. It certainly needs bringing into the 21st century! Price was Ok for the area. Aircon was a bit slow but it was a bed for the night. Not all rooms had a table and chairs outside so we had to stand when we went to watch the aeroplanes take off and land from the nearby airport. (There was a fire in the Hunter Valley and these planes were carrying water and came over really low) The staff were friendly and helpful.
Not in a hurry to go back though.

All your comments on your stay will assist us with our current and ongoing renovation / maintenance of the property. We hope to see you again next time you're in the area. Kind Regards, Jason Rutherford (Receptionist)

Have stayed here a couple of times when in Richmond for business. It's an older style motel - not fancy - but it's always clean and neat.
The best bit - they have invested recently in new, comfortable beds - much better than what you'd normally expect at a motel. This makes a huge difference and, for this reason, I now stay here in preference to other places that look fancier but have older mattresses.
Staff have also been very friendly and happy to make arrangements for late night arrivals.

We were passing though for the night. Was able to book a family room which was nice was nice and large. However our room was up stairs so taking childrens bags etc was a bit of a pain. We were also charged a extra person cost being a family of 5.
Family room is 2 rooms and smaller room is at the enterance way and became cold as heat didn't fully reach the room.
