The Commercl has been taken over and the accommodation modernised, The room was nice, it had a quite large refigerator, a flat screen TV, kettle and tea and coffee. However in the renovation they had taken out the washbasin- my view is if the facilities are down the hall (and in the case of my room) the furthers away - then the wash basin is needed in the room. There was a large off street parking area and access either throughtthe back or off the street, the bar was not yet open so dinner and drinks were across the road at the Prince of Wales. Would I stay again? not unless I could not find something better.

Response from Rowena Ellis, Owner at The Commercial Travellers House
Responded 11 Feb 2023
Thanks John for taking the time to review your stay, it gives us important feedback to help us always improve our offerings. We have been working on many projects within this grand old building and plumbing has been on the top of the list! Thankfully once the gutters are complete we are near finished this task. The sinks in the rooms along with the plumbing had seen better days and we had no option unfortunately than to remove them. I understand shared bathrooms are not for everyone, however those that wish to experience a traditional 1920's double story pub stay will appreciate the renovations & upgrades. Its all definitely work in progress but I feel we are getting there!
