Detailed Reviews
We spent two nights in the Shearer’s Cottage (2). This middle cottage is joined by short glass walkways to two smaller rooms but we heard no noise from either room. The cottage is totally self contained with a cupboard laundry, full kitchen, large bathroom including a bath and separate bedroom. There is a large lounge/ dining area with a deck opening out with a view over fields. The view was charming and we spent many hours sitting here watching the changing sky and sunset. The grounds also contain a swimming pool and bar-b-q area.
The lodge is about 5 minutes drive out of Gulgong along a well maintained dirt road. The accommodation was very clean and had all the facilities we required.

We stayed in one of the cottages for the weekend, with beautiful countryside and hill views out of the all the windows. It is bright, airy and modern, with a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable lounges, large screen TV and sound system and breakfast packs provided. The bed was really comfortable, large bathroom with washer and dryer - everything you need really for a comfy, relaxing stay - we would definitely stay there again.

We stayed in the Glass Cottage. One bedroom makes it suitable only for a couple, but the space in the cottage, the amenities including a full laundry Large kitchen two lounge areas give plenty of space. Then there is the view! Floor to high ceiling windows give an ever changing vista over the fields to the distant hills.

The Owl Head is a different type of accomodation and I understand the positive reviews. The accomodation has a lot going for it but there were a few things that I didn’t like and the concept wasn’t for me.
The room I was in had glass walls and floor to ceiling curtains. It was pretty hot and the room was very warm at the end of the day. The air con worked but was not very effective in cooling down the room. It also caused the curtains to knock on the walls all night long. So fair to say that I didn’t sleep well.
The room code I got was wrong so had to muck around to get right code to access the key. No biggie, just not something you want to have to deal with especially at night. You also have to do your own dishes (additional charge otherwise) and some of my cutlery wasn’t as clean as it could be.
The positives are that it is in a rural setting, nice and quiet and it’s cool waking up to kangaroos at your front door. The room was clean and the bed comfy, so I imagine you could have a pretty relaxing stay there.
Hot tip: lower your curtains all the way until they rest on the ground. Then they won’t knock against the walls.

Did not meet my expectations. Lovely ambiance in the country but the premises nothing amazing. The rules set out in the room about using extra linen were a tad aggressive I felt. Would not stay again - certainly NOT value for money

Great place for a break to the Gulgong/Mudgee area. Stayed in the 'Glass House' which is self-contained accommodation. Great views from the accommodation and has all the cooking facilities, etc that you need. We also got a 4 nights for the price of 3 package so the value was very good. Access is via gravel road but good condition so should not be an issue for most cars. There is several accommodation options (7 in total with 6 in close proximity to each other) but this means that you don't get that romantic 'on your own' feeling, but we knew that. They need to do a bit of housekeeping around the accommodation. The paving has weeds, the outdoor lounge is a bit worn, etc but that did not really affect our stay. The Glass House does not have any curtains in the main living area so if you have 4 people and 2 are on the sofa lounge they will be seeing the sun come up very early. Penty of plates, etc The photo on the web site showing the bathroom in the Glass House is old and has been updated and now has a bath with a great view. If you have a group it is possible to book the Glass House and the 2 end 'Glass Studios' and there would be enough plates, seats, etc in the Glass house to do the cooking, etc

We rented a gorgeous Studio for 3 nights. It was luxurious, comfortable and had everything we ever needed. It has been so well maintained it looked very new. The entire Owls Head property is tranquil and well maintained. We appreciated our Rate matched to the lower Online Loyalty rate we had. Parking in front of entry was very easy. The villa was separate snd private from neighbouring 2 villas. Kitchen was spacious with dishwasher and extensive equipment. Large bathroom with washing machine in too was very appreciated. Pegs supplied too. Easy washing effort. Linens and towels supplied.
We loved easy closeness to amazing Gulgong. A very interesting Gold Mining Town with the best Tourist drawcards. The Holtermann Museum and the Pioneer Museum were outstanding. Great Retail options whilst retaining an historical Town vibe.

The lodge has various styles of accomms that are so well suited to groups. All are comfortable and super clean with great amenities and in a beautiful rural setting. The owners make you feel right at home, even stacking the fire for us. The rates are very reasonable and the location close enough to town for a brisk walk in . Will come back again

Every year we (as a group of 8 friends from school) go away for a 4 day weekend. This year we had the privilege of all coming home to Gulgong, to stay at Owl Head Lodge.
Rob was so easy to deal with via phone & email & the place is just amazing. We had the Glass Cottage, the 2 Glass Studio's East & West & the Shearers Quarters West. We were welcomed with a bottle of Red, & settled in for our stay.
The rooms are so beautifully presented, the Cottage had everything you could possibly need & all within a 5 min drive to town. With such a spectacular view, you could easily waste away a day just relaxing at Owl Head.
When it's Gulgong's time again, we'll absolutely be back!

What a magnificent place! The perfect venue for a group of old school friends to meet up after more than 30 years. We each had our own "cottage" so we had privacy when wanted plus a comunal hub in a central cottage. Wonderful views, beautiful sunrises, well stocked and very clean,, we couldn't have found better. Friendly staff as well. Different people in our group are already planning to go back. Whether for a couple, family gathering or friends, this is a great find!
