Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely time. The food was amazing - dinner and breakfast. The hotel makes you feel at home instantly with beautiful art on the walls. The theatre made it even more special - we watched West Side Story. Barraba is a beautiful country village we will definitely come back one day.

I have been to The Playhouse three times over the last month for live events. This place is an absolute gem!. Andrew is the consummate host and an evening at The Playhouse fills the soul with joy. Live events can be combined with post show supper and if you've travelled long distances there's always the option of booking a room for the night too! Dinner is usually a set menu complimenting them the evening performance. Sharing a meal and perhaps a drink after the show feels very cosmopolitan. The theatre itself is an intimate space for live shows or movies.

Barabba is a very quiet old town about 40 minutes from Tamworth. The Playhouse is, as you might expect, and old cinema, theatre owned by a man who is passionate about films. Always a chance to see an old movie and enjoy and home cooked dinner. The rooms are well equipped and quiet - indeed Barabba is a very quiet town with only the pub as an alternative of and quality for eating. The Silo Art is a great attraction for the town and is well worth seeing. If visiting be prepared to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside and make your own enjoyment is this special area

Grew up in Barraba and returned on 2 January to attend a funeral ...... my adult daughter accompanied me and we stayed at The Playhouse for 2 nights.... we were pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call from Andrew whilst we were en route to check on how our trip was going and to let us know that there was nothing open in town where we could get a meal or dinner and we took him up on his offer to provide dinner for us..... it was so good we also had dinner there the next night.... breakfast was also excellent.... the accommodation is basic but clean and comfortable..... The Playhouse was converted from an original pub where one bathroom was shared by all guests, so Andrew did a great job when he established this business by installing private bathrooms for each room..... not an easy thing to do..... this is definitely a "must stop" accommodation/restaurant if you are driving along Fossickers Way.....

Our dart landed on Barraba when looking for somewhere new to visit for a long weekend. We had a win! Andrew's genuine hospitality made us feel very welcome from the first moment. Breakfasts & dinners were delicious, our room was delightful and the movie theatre was fantastic! A private screening was a real treat! Would absolutely, recommend The Playhouse! Barraba is a great little town & the nearby waterfall a lovely spot for a picnic & peaceful book reading.

How wonderful to discover this beautifully renovated ‘pub’ on a country road trip. Ultra comfortable rooms with stylish amenities, delicious home-style cooking for dinner and breakfast and awesome hospitality - it is like being welcomed into a friend’s home. Well done Andrew

Barraba is a small town, but the Playhouse Hotel puts it on the map for us. We travel from the Gold Coast for time with our grandsons and they are enough to make our weekend wonderful but this time instead of a dismal motel room we stayed at the Playhouse. Andrew made our boys so welcome, they loved it there. The rooms are great and Andrew you are a fabulous host. So nice after our long drive to be able to sit in the dining room and have a hearty tasty meal with a glass of wine. We hope to be back again.

We stumbled across The Playhouse Hotel whilst on a road trip through NSW. After many nights of motel accommodation, our night at the Playhouse was a real treat. A charming building, lovely room, comfortable bed, and delicious breakfast were all most appreciated. What really made our stay memorable was the friendliness and very warm hospitality shown to us by our host, Andrew. Thank you! We highly recommend visiting.

We were passing through so initially booked for 1 night. After talking to our host Andrew, we decided to stay a second night so we could see the silent movie he was showing the next afternoon. We were so pleased we made that decision as we thoroughly enjoyed the movie and 2 fantastic pianists who played for 2 hrs straight providing the music for "A Sentimental Bloke". Our whole experience was topped off with my delicious home made ice cream. The room we had was comfortable and dinner at the Commercial Hotel was ok. The kettle in our room could do with being replaced. Andrew cooked our breakfast the next morning which was nice- a little pricey but we didn't mind supporting this quirky venue.
