Detailed Reviews

Set in the historical farming surrounds, this is very comfortable, and the hostess is kind, generous, artistic and amazingly well informed. Arrival snacks are home made and delicious, and the availability to access "toys" such as fishing gear, birdwatching gadgets, games, books, totem tennis, bikes made the kids (and us) decide to stay for an extra night! It's worth the drive!

I have traveled a lot but this is one out of the box. Such a stunning location, food was divine and Dianne and Iain were terrific hosts. The lake is so beautiful, fishing and bird watching. I cannot wait to bring my family to Paika.

I found Diane's B&B accommodation browsing online and I'm pretty sure it's the best option around Balranard! The location by the lake is beautiful. So many birds at sunrise it's hard to believe. And the story of the lake being recovered and refilled a few years ago made the experience even more precious. Diane was very friendly and helpful upon arrival (even though we had some trouble initially to communicate by email for the booking... phone was easier). We paid extra for the cooked breakfast that we enjoyed at the communal kitchen/dinning area. Very abundant and yummy. The rooms, and in general the whole place, is well set up and very clean. Comfy beds too. Shared toilets and showers but, as we stayed on a Monday, we had the place for ourselves. Yay. Paika Station has an old time charm you can't get in a luxurious accommodation! And we loved that. Thanks Diane, we'll be back if we can.

What a find! Literally on the banks of Lake Paika this homestead is a gem. Watching the bird life as the sun set over the lake, cooking in the genuine 'old' kitchen and visiting the shed where Burke and Wills stayed are unforgettable experiences. Diane and Ian are genuinely wonderful hosts...and if you go, have a look at the 'gas cylinder outdoor heater'..an absolute hoot! The restoration photos in the lounge show how much effort they have put into restoring the quarters.
