We are so pleased we saw Paika Station at this time. It is a truly special place. As one picture clearly shows, the lake is currently dry and consequently many of the 140 species of birds expected to return when the lake is again filled (beginning in April) were currently absent. Nevertheless, the experience was magical and one we can’t wait to have again. Dianne and her partner Ian are wonderfully welcoming, warm people. This fact alone sets Paika Station near the top of any list, using any other criteria, of places to visit in this region of south west NSW. Pass this place without staying and, put simply, you will have made a mistake. We stayed in ‘Duffs Cottage’ and it was excellent. Pictured is the ‘Workman’s Quarters’ which we inspected and can thoroughly recommend too. You will not regret choosing either option!

We stayed 2 nights in our caravan at the station. It was incredible. This is truely boutique camping at it’s best.
Located on the banks of lake Paika, we were 2 couples and our van’s. We had our own bathroom, and a camp kitchen.
Di our host, is an amazing woman, and couldn’t have been more accommodating.
This is without a doubt the best accomodation in the area.

Found this wonderful Farm stay by accident at the Balranald Tourist Info., what a treasure. Congratulations and thanks to Diane and Tim, and on such short notice too.
Your restorations are great, still a long way to go we know, but the view is just superb and we enjoyed your hospitality. Thoroughly recommend the farm stay (or tent or van) to anyone looking for something different and to enjoy Aussie outback farm life. Don't be daunted by the drive in, you will enjoy it. Drinks on the verandah looking out at the sunset just wonderful.

This was the highlight of our trip to outback NSW. Diane the owner has really done something special in restoring the former shearer's quarters into as close as you will find to 4 star within 100km. The restorations have been done very thoughtfully and down to the smallest detail and it was the best water pressure in the showers since I was a kid! Diane and her late husband have also brought a 450 hectare lake back to life only metres from the accommodation after it was dry for 100 years thanks to some negotiation with a range of governments and a massive revegetation effort. The property has a ton of history including having had Burke and Wills stay in the stables. Our kids loved it and never ran out of things to do and we never missed the TV or wifi and the experience is all the better for not having these facilities although we could access the Testra mobile network when we needed it. Also the Homebus Hotel 10 minutes away had great meals and atmosphere. Overall I can't recommend more highly - well done Diane

Diane and Iain are perfect hosts. A warm welcome was extended as we arrived at their historic and incredibly interesting property. The homestead and accommodation all overlook Lake Paika which was full of water.
Iain took us out on his boat on the lake and told us some of the history of Lake Paika then we enjoyed drinks on the verandah watching the breathtaking sunset over the water.
Dianne's food was absolutely delicious.
We stayed in the historic and authentic bunk house. Everything was immaculately clean. Great air conditioning and showers.
Thank you both for sharing your amazing part of the world with your guests...especially us!

A beautiful country stay away from the fast city pace. The views of the lake and birdlife add to the tranquil feel. Dianne is a beautiful and welcoming person. The little additional touches in the bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and dining room are a pleasant surprise. There are plenty of area to go for walks to admire this oasis. Loved the experience and will be coming back again. Thank you Dianne and Iian for a wonderful stay.

Everything has been amazing. The setting, the lake, the hosts, shower water pressure and hot water, facilities... We stayed three nights and can't fault it. If you're after a motel room then go somewhere else, but if you're after amazing rustic style where you can make yourself at home, make your own meals and really settle in, then this is the place. A big bonus is you can book the place for exclusive use, we have had total privacy. If the website appeals to you, then this can't disappoint. Dianne and Ian are perfect hosts, friendly and available if you need them but from a distance. We had a ploughman's lunch hamper and it was perfect. We didn't think the lake was a drawcard but it really is, as nice as looking at the beach. The sunsets are beautiful and the birds and trees provide endless entertainment.
I would definitely describe this as a hidden gem, come and visit before everyone finds out.

We had a small fly away in 5 different aircraft. I new nothing about the station before this trip.
It dates back to the mid 1850's and has too much history to mention here. It is a taste of the outback so close to Victoria that it needs to be seen. The old homestead and gardens are just lovely.
Dianne cooked a 3 course meal for the 5 of us that was restaurant quality. Well worth a visit.
Thanks Dianne, we will be back

Our hosts Diane and Iain were very welcoming and the accommodation provided everything we needed.
It was great to stay somewhere without television and Wifi with a lake at our doorstep.
Dianne's sumptuous breakfasts are to die for. A wonderful relaxing mini break.

We are so glad that we found Lake Paika Accommodation on-line and then stayed. Hard to find the words as to how much we enjoyed our stay. All areas and rooms have air-conditioning but, having the corner room we were able to open windows to enjoy the cross-ventilation evening breezes after a very hot day; also beautiful view from our room over the lake. After a long day of driving, to find an array of nibbles and wine waiting was such a welcome surprise. Our dinner and breakfast were delicious and generous. In addition to being impressed with such good accommodation, we were impressed with all the work being done with the wetland plants and general ecology of Lake Paika. Bird life was magic as was the view of the sunset over the lake! Our thanks to Dianne not only for the wonderful meals but giving us so much information about the history of Lake Paika. Well worth the 10 mile drive out from Balranald.
