We stayed in the Ash Room with a four poster bed. Lovely! Clean and welcoming. The bar is cosy with a log fire even in early September. Breakfast was delicious and supper good too, but mention must go to the frankly amazing staff. Our waiter last night and waitress / receptionist could not have been more welcoming, accommodating, speedy, friendly and professional ... to see them again this morning was a treat - they must be exhausted working both shifts! Anyway, big up to the manager/owner and wonderful staff, they will make your stay feel so warm and friendly

My partner and I stayed here for 5 nights in August. This is a nice building, striking and elegant. We were pleased to find that our room was huge with a large 4 poster bed. There were social distancing measures in place including sanitiser available at a number of stations around the pub and restaurant and a one way system although this wasn't always adhered to and the staff were quite relaxed about it. The hotel itself, staff and service for me were 3 star, tables weren't cleared or cleaned very quickly or thoroughly and while all the staff were nice enough, the service was just ok and a few of them looked like they'd rather be anywhere else. The best service at breakfast was earlier rather than later and when it was less busy. Service in the evening was good. While I say i think this is a 3 star place, the food is outstanding hence the 4 star review. The menu is relatively small, a dinner and bar menu. We were there 5 nights and had breakfast every morning, lunch once and dinner there 4 times. I couldn't fault any of the food at all. In fact I was astounded at the quality and attention to detail, all dishes were good sized portions, piping hot and looked appetizing. The proof was in the eating though, quality ingredients and a chef who knows what he's doing. I would definitely recommend a visit, rooms are impressive if a little tatty in places but for me that's part of the rustic charm. If you don't stay but you're nearby or passing through, go for dinner for sure.

Friendly helpful staff, excellent food, quiet surroundings. And the best chicken supreme I have ever tasted. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Every opportunity I get to work in this area I love to stay here. I can’t recommend it enough.

Our family of four stayed here for one Monday night during the "eat out to help out" offer while walking the beautiful S Downs Way. Despite being very busy for supper we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were characterful, clean and comfortable. The food was good and the service was fine. Good value for money
