We were a party of twelve all ordering different meals. The food was freshly cooked and the service was friendly and helpful. There was a fire lit and on a cold frosty night was very welcome. Many thanks.

Very welcoming, good friendly atmosphere, a little let down by some average food. Reasonable value, I think we may have just got a chef's bad day? We all have them. Shame, nice location that needs a some tlc.

POSITIVE: -The room was spacious. I had booked a twin room and it had a double bed and a single one in it. -The pub is set in quiet surroundings. In the middle of the country side. -The meals were good. -On Sunday evening I was offered a meal after I went there for dinner, not having realised that they... More

Called in here on way back from family visiting after spotting on the outbound journey. Fabulous traditional pub with a cheerful friendly licensee and faultless food. Delicious and fresh, service is not fast but worth the wait!! Great place. If the accommodation is on the same level it will be fab

We booked a room here early in June. We were assured our room would be ready by 11am, it was not. Man at bar said it was still occupied (1st lie) the couple were sitting outside. Landlord spoke to us in an aggressive manner, saying aforesaid man was a war veteran (2nd lie) we knew he was not. Landlord told... More

Meals Ok (I think Phil the landlord used to be a chef on cruise liners??) but accommodation is pretty grim. Bedding was clean but the room stank, large brown stain over much of the ceiling (looked like water damage - which would have accounted for the damp smell), there was a hole in the bathroom door! The reason for sagging... More

We come here on our wedding Aniversary and have always enjoyed our evening. The food, beers (perfect real ales) ₩and wines are fabulous. Tonight I chose fresh Cornish Place which tasted as good as if I had just caught it! Husband had lambs liver which was just as good and was a gigantic portion. Half the fish is now carefully... We were going to a wedding nearby and stayed at the Labouring Man; two families. This is a good village pub as well, in a quiet road. Both rooms were comfortable and quiet. The breakfast choice was extensive and excellent.

We've driven past the signs on the A29 to The Labouring Man many times and finally called in. It's a proper pub with food where we received a very friendly welcome. The food was fairly basic, but good value (my gammon was both enormous and lovely), and I'd certainly visit again if only the pub wasn't so full of dogs... More

6 of us stayed for 2 nights at The Labouring Man for a family wedding at the nearby House on the Brooks – my husband and I, our daughter and son-in-law, and their 16-month-old twins. It turned out to be an excellent choice – it’s an archetypal Victorian country pub with rooms, with the consequent mixture of locals and visitors.... More
