We visited on new years eve for the family masquerade ball, family with a 5 year old and 10 year old, we all had a fantastic time, about 80 people in total, a mix of families and adult groups. Magician, balloon sculptures, face painter. Disco and hot buffet, could have done with more kids food, we were called up table by table and no nuggets left by the time we got there. Great family night thank you
The Old Manor House is just beautiful and in a lovely green setting just a few miles outside of Burton. Staff were friendly in greeting us and checking us in. Our rooms were in the annex of the building and the first thing you notice is a very damp and fusty smell in the corridors. The lift wasn't working but there was only a sign on the first floor - not on ground floor where arriving guests would wait for the lift ! The rooms were large and spacious but they are definitely showing their age and the bathroom is certainly from a different era. For a Mercure Hotel which is generally the upper end of the Accor chain, this was quite a let down and a real shame as it is such a beautiful property. Go on Mercure, invest some money !!
Stayed in room 1 on the ground floor which is a lovely large room nice and warm as we love it. Bath in the bathroom as well as a very good shower. We appreciated the free toiletries and tea, coffee facilities, and trouser press. The extra large double bed was firm with clean white linen. Staff were amazing, friendly and ever so helpful. They decided to move us upstairs for our second night for safety reasons regarding Storm Dennis (16 February 2020). Room 106 (opposite the main staircase with a stunning stained glass window) was small but comfortable and had what we needed (except bedside shelves/tables). We put our mugs, phones and spectacles on top of the headboard. Socket near the bed, and dimming lights above our heads ideal for reading. The dimmer switches are conveniently in the headboard. The bathroom with shower only is small but adequate for our needs. The breakfast/dining room is stunning with a huge wooden surround at the fireplace and huge windows overlooking the garden. Will book again as we loved it!…
I was booked into this hotel by my company for three nights as we had a two day business meeting close by.This hotel badly needs a major revamp, my room had no bedside locker , had to leave my phone & reading glasses on the floor. Television in my room was on the wall parallel to the bed, making it uncomfortable to watch. Carpet in the dining room and main staircase badly worn , bar area very dark. The staff were very friendly & helpful, cheerful and happy ,.
I am sorry Mercure but this hotel is tired with a warren of narrow steep stairs and does not deserve your name. I chose this hotel because of the Mercure noame but will be much more careful with Mercure hotels in future. Dissapointed
