Hoar Cross Hall Hotel and Spa, nestled in a serene rural setting, enchants guests with its elegant decor and tranquil spa that includes a new outdoor terrace, which is a major draw despite some areas in need of an update. While the location garners appreciation for its stunning views, visitors often find the value compromised by costly extras and overcrowding.
Rooms range from spacious to needing maintenance, and while the service is generally commendable, noise levels and occasional slow service during peak times have been points of contention.

Overall we had a really nice stay. We found the staff to be incredibly helpful and friendly and the hotel is beautiful as are the grounds. The food was really good, we enjoyed everything we ate. The spa treatments themselves were excellent and priced fairly.
There are a few things to be aware of however. One is the London prices. A cocktails is £16 plus, as others have said you are charged supplements for all sorts of things, they should be included for the very high cost of staying here. One pool area was closed and the saltwater pool room stank so strongly of chlorine that I don’t believe it is saltwater and I was unable to sit in there as it was overpowering. I couldn’t have sat in anyhow as it was rammed, generally the spa was very busy, I'd suggest too many people were allowed on site at the time.
I called the hotel a week before our stay and asked about the evening dress code, I was told anything goes, some people dress up, some are very casual, we just ask that you don't wear your robes to dinner. Ok, fairly low key then I thought. We asked again at check in, yes it's all fairly casual, some people dress up. So having had a facial, I didn't put my face on, left the oils on my skin, went up in combats and a t-shirt, my friend dressed similarly. Everyone else was dressed up to the nines, like a Christmas Party, not a single person was dressed remotely casually. We both felt really silly but it was too late, because our table for dinner was imminent and we'd not brought party gear anyway. Well we thought dinner was imminent, we were seated 45 minutes after our booking. So be warned, dress up for dinner and the hotel must stop telling people that anything goes, we don't want to feel embarrassed by our clothing choices.
We also suffered from room noise, one due to a service ramp outside our window and two because someone started vacuuming at 7.15. We were offered and took adequate compensation for this but the hotel must know of these issues and should price affected rooms accordingly and highlight those issues to bookers.
Also, if have had chemo in the last 5 years they will limit the treatments they give you and you can only be treated by some of the staff as not all are trained to do so. I was very lucky as by complete chance I had a trained masseuse but if not I wouldn’t have been treated. This is total nonsense, have spoken to my oncologist about it, 5 years is complete overkill, a year after treatment ends would still be too long. But also they should highlight this when you’re booking treatments, it's not mentioned on their site. on their site. I have not had this same issue in other spa places in the U.K. or abroad.
I would return here, overall it was nice enough, but it wasn’t worth a huge trip to experience it.

We decided we would visit again after a previously fantastic stay last year, this time for my husband’s birthday. Once again we had the most amazing experience. From checking in with Millie who treated us like royalty, making us feel valued (observations on her later actions with other guests shows this was how all guests are treated :) ) checked our meals and spa experiences were correct. We had a stunning room overlooking the terraced area and into the wooded area, lovely to hear the birds in the morning. The room was spacious, clean and the bed so comfortable. The bathroom was well maintained, the toiletries smelled lovely. Hubby was happy he could watch tv from the bath!!! Housekeeping were great, and the room kept clean and replenished. The food in the ballroom was excellent, no matter which meal, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, the quality shone through. Special shout out for the chefs, the Ballroom was busy on the second night we were there, and it felt like all the guests had decided to eat at the same time so the place was full. Yet still the service was relaxed (efficient and not manic) and dishes were received swiftly to the exceptionally high standard we have learned is the normal at HCH. Our waitress, Georgia, is an asset to the hotel. Having worked in hospitality, we could both see her commitment to the customer in all she did, she was always smiling and unobtrusive in keeping her stations flowing. She engaged well and was interested in our day. We planned our spa experience better this time around so we could make the most of the facilities. We still have bits we want to try on our next visit (I think this is going to be an annual trip!) I had a manicure with Hayley and felt truly pampered for the afternoon. The hubby had a deep tissue massage. I could tell as soon as I saw him it had been good and he had one of the best night’s sleep in a long while following it. (He may have also slept on the massage table as well!) The spa is well deserving of the highest accolade, the pool a lovely temperature to swim in and we enjoyed exploring the different options. Next trip it’s the heated beds for me and maybe the Sanctum for some reflective time. Lunch on the final day, efficiently managed by Cem, he was brilliant with all the guests and was a great leader in the room, engaging well with everyone yet also allowing people to enjoy the food and the stunning surroundings. I loved the decorations for Halloween as you enter and the autumnal display in the ballroom. As we were earlier in the year than our previous stay we were able to see the stunning views as we ate. This is fast becoming one of our favourite places to stay, the food is amazing, the choice of dishes made it difficult to pick one, I was glad I was there for two nights so I could try others. The hotel and grounds are stunning, the rooms are spacious and well decorated and there are little nooks where you can sit and relax, or play a game of dominoes. However, for me, what makes the stay at Hoar Cross Hall so special has to be the staff. Every single person was friendly and welcoming and I cannot wait to go back.

Second time visiting HCH, and weren't disappointed on our return. The facilities are excellent, with varied and numerous different pools, saunas, steam rooms etc. Enjoyed the new spa Terrace too, really wonderful to have outdoor spa space to relax in the sun.
The food was again outstanding, particularly lunch and dinner. The breakfast is a buffet and is fairly standard in it's offering, but good quality nonetheless. We ordered additional veggie sausages and poached eggs which came quickly and were good additions.
The service here is a standout. Staff are friendly, extremely professional and their systems are well organised.
I proposed in the grounds shortly after our arrival, and after excitedly sharing this news with our server in the Long Gallery bar, we were brought complimentary prosecco. The staff went out of their way to have us feel special and celebrated, and we received several complimentary drinks, deserts, and a lovely congratulations card waiting for us at lunch the next day.
Only couple of minor things, the room was quite hot at night (it was the hottest day of the year the next day) but we were provided with a fan which was very helpful. We were very impressed with the new Spa Terrace - it looks fantastic and felt very classy. Some of the older parts of the spa could do with a lick of paint just to bring them back up to the exceptional standards of the main areas.
Would highly recommend HCH, it isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for - fantastic facilities, great food and exceptional staff. I would like to say we will be back again soon but as we have a wedding to plan we probably won't be able to for a while! Very much looking forward to when we can return though. Thank you HCH!

We have just got back from an overnight stay and spa day. We stayed in room 319 and checked out this afternoon. I can honestly say that we were very underwhelmed with our stay, that it (mostly) ruined the break. Considering we paid nearly £900 for the overnight stay (hot tub room), 3 meals and a full spa day, we were expecting much more than what we experienced. Room 319 is very tired and needs some attention and modernisation. The bathroom was very dirty and unkept. The hot tub area was very tired also and extremely dark at night, making it dangerous to use when dark. The hot tub area also had a very strong smell, it smelt like drains if I’m being honest. It bothered my wife so much, she only lasted 10 minutes in the tub and made me take a shower as soon as I got out. I don’t know if it was the actual hot tub, or just the general area. The food was very good and we both really enjoyed all of our meals. The staff were friendly, but the general service was poor. I kept being told that I couldn’t order a drink from the bar and that it was table service, but you had to wait a good while for the one member of staff working to eventually come over and take your order and then wait 15 minutes or more for your drink to arrive. For context, we were drinking coke, not a cocktail. On arrival, I was also quite shocked that there was nobody to take our bags from us and take them to our room. Not that we needed them to, but again, for nearly £900, you expect high standards and a certain level of service. We have stayed at similar priced hotels over the years and this service comes as standard in our experience. The spa is also very tired in places and again, does not match your price point. Many areas were not working as expected, tiles were missing, taps not working, mouldy grout etc, generally very tired. Your main pool was also out of use for a big refurb. The refurb is particularly frustrating as it was not mentioned when I booked and paid for the stay in full (non- refundable). I feel like this should have been mentioned at the earliest opportunity and not via email a few days before our arrival (I booked 2 weeks prior to our stay). Looking at the work that is going on with the pool area, this is not unexpected maintenance, but looks like a planned refurbishment that you should have been making your potential customers aware of. I heard several people discussing their disappointment that this pool was closed. The grounds are beautiful and parts of the hotel are nice, but we were left very disappointed and genuinely staggered at your price point against the experience and service in general. We had treatments in the spa and the treatments were excellent. The best massage and facial I’ve ever had. But the treatement room was dark, dull and cold. Certainly not a high end treatment room at all. Decor in the treatment room was awful.

An entirely disappointing experience. This was a gift for my 40th birthday. Having paid almost £1000 we had a room that the fire exit wouldn’t close on and maintenance had to be sent to fix it. We paid extra for a suite for early spa access and the spa extras, buy the time we got the flip flops that were missing 45 minutes into the extra hour early check in you get with the suite the extra time had been all but taken up by trying to call and then visit reception. Black mould around the bath, a toilet pipe that leaked, an outdoor hot tub with broken lights and when it came to dinner my partner had half of his main meal left off and went to bed hungry. To add insult to injury we woke up in the morning to find a bill under the door for services that we had then been double charged for and then had to show we had already paid for, surely there should be a system in place already for this?
The morning manager did refund a portion of our booking and refund some drinks but we didn’t expect to have to have so many trips to reception to report maintenance issues. For a surprise birthday treat it really did knock the shine off the entire experience. I felt so sorry for my partner having booked and planned such a thoughtful gift and then to be left feeling deflated/embarrassed about the quality of the stay.
The staff were all friendly but the rooms and general maintenance were just not up to par compared to other hotels asking the same sort of money.

When usually leaving HCH after a twilight spa, I feel luxurious and wanting to return. On this occasion, I left feeling deflated and disappointed.
Firstly upon arrival we were greeted by a lady, although lovely, I felt kind of pointless when the resource could have been used on reception to check people in quicker, 2 people on reception with a big queue, is not enough and if you were unfortunate enough to be at the back of the queue this would greatly eat into your time at the spa as they aren’t the quickest to check you in.
Secondly, it seems to have lost the spark and luxury once you get past reception and into the spa, a number of things weren’t available to use, they had randomly removed a door and threw some lavender into a room to try and make it appealing, this just looked dirty, the ceiling looked half painted and mould in the tiles. In other areas there were tiles missing and loose tiles lying around, the whole place just felt like it needed a good scrub and deep clean.
Previously the meal you receive was substantial, I’m not sure if they were running out of food on this occasion??? The chicken came with rice, a spoonful and tenderstem, literally a small sprig and some watery sauce, then the salmon….what I can only describe as a teaspoon of lentils and veg swimming in, again, some watery sauce. A usually nourishing and healthy meal was just lacking in everything, let’s not mention the large mouthful of cheesecake for £6 or the wine appearing to double in price.
There was no hot water in the showers resulting in being unable to shower, a number of people were complaining about this and again, the changing rooms just felt grubby, not how it usually feels.
It says “something new is coming” and the pictures look lovely, but felt like everything else is possibly being compromised to pay for this. Would it not be better to close the spa for a week or two to give it the deep clean and revamp it so desperately needs rather than expect people to pay for a luxury to be left feeling that it has gone downhill considerably.
I usually can’t wait to get back to HCH for my next spa, after this visit, I sadly won’t be rushing back.

We had an over night stay booked in (Tuesday 12th March – Wednesday 13th March) as a treat for my wife’s birthday.
We paid for the serenity spa package with additional early spa access for the first day and an additional hand and foot ritual for both of us.
On arrival we found the room to be unclean with old bottles and champagne corks and surrouding packaging left on the window, no hair dryer in the room and the conditioner in the bathroom was shampoo!
These issues were raised with the reception desk who did go clean the room and then leave a hairdryer on the bed and said they changed the shampoo to conditioner in the dispenser (but hadn’t).
We then proceeded to the spa for the evening only then to discover that several of the other guests that we spoke to had not paid for early access but had been given the same wristbands on arrival so were equally able to access the facilities that we were made to pay for.
We had dinner, which was ok then went to bed.
The following morning, we went down to the spa reception to get towels only to be confronted with a building site, drip buckets everywhere, towels hanging from ceilings (presumably to direct the leaking water into the buckets).
Once we had towels and navigated the minefield of buckets, we proceeded to the rest room (quiet serenity room) only to be continually interrupted by persistent drilling and hammering ( I have videoed this on several occasions for over 5 minutes of video to show if needed) which really didn’t allow us to have the calming experience that we had paid for and indeed expected! We then went for a massage, which was a 60-minute treatment but having gone into the room 5 minutes after the start time, then finished 5 minutes before the end time we only actually got around 45 minutes of actual treatment time.
After leaving the massage we went for lunch, again ok on a food front, well once we managed to get into the actual room! There was a queue for food that backed up to the entrance doors to the spa (at least 19-20 people) despite all lunch bookings being pre-booked???
Then we went to find somewhere in the spa to sit and relax only to find that it was so overcrowded, and all the loungers were reserved towels. There was nowhere to go. We did speak to a member of staff as your policy states no reservation but they said, “not sure what you want me to do?”
We then headed back to the relaxation room hoping the drilling and hammering would be complete! But alas! It continue

We were unhappy with the charade performed by the catering team at dinner of pretending our table wasn't ready when we arrived for dinner. We were already a few minutes late for our reservation, but were told that the table was being prepared and we were offered seats outside the restaurant. It soon became clear that this was simply a ploy to try to get us to buy drinks before we were shown through to our table. As soon as the waiter was told we wouldn't require drinks yet, our table suddenly became available and we were shown through. The Ballroom was three quarters empty, and it was clear that our table had been ready all along. I felt that sitting guests outside the restaurant while their tables were being "prepared" was a sneaky tactic to try to get additional drinks out of them, when they had already paid very good money for their meal as part of the package (£259 each in our case). It was clear from what we observed that guests were left to have their drinks outside the Ballroom and were only shown to their table when they had finished or nearly finished their drinks. They would then be expected to buy another drink once they had sat down for their meals, potentially doubling the venue's drinks revenues (or more than doubling, given the tactic of offering and charging for bottled water too without explaining the charge to customers).
To elaborate on that latter point, the waitress did not explain that there would be an additional charge simply to have a bottle of water with our meal - she offered us "bread and water" before our food was served, and we were shocked to discover at the end of the meal that we had been charged £4.75 for the water. It was reasonable for us to assume that water would be free, like the bread. This is especially so given that we had been left a complimentary bottle of the exact same bottle of water in our room. We could have brought that bottle to dinner with us and had it for free!
As for the food, though it was of good quality, there were excessive additional charges for certain meals and accompaniments - for example, considering the amount we had already paid for the package, £10 extra for the privilege of having a steak is extortionate. We were also unhappy that almost as soon as we had finished our meal, we were approached by the host/manager and politely told that we needed to leave. We were in fact simply waiting for our receipt, which our waitress had only seconds before gone to get for us.

I had high expectations for a spa day at Hoar Cross Hall, but unfortunately, it felt more like a conveyor belt experience rather than a luxurious retreat. While the grounds and facilities were aesthetically pleasing, the overall experience did not justify the £169 price tag (without treatments!).
The quiet pool area was anything but – groups were shouting and rowdy, making it far from the restful atmosphere I was expecting. Cleanliness was also below standard, with floating and sunken plasters in the saltwater pool, and the toilets in Maker Lane had crusted dirt on the floors—not what you’d expect from a supposedly premium spa.
Lunch was average at best and felt like a rip-off, especially with extra charges for sides on dishes that really needed them to feel complete. To make matters worse, my dessert spoon tasted of onion, which completely ruined one of our desserts.
For the money, this was not worth it. You can find a far more relaxing and welcoming spa experience elsewhere, where you feel like a genuinely valued guest rather than just another number. I would not return and strongly advise others to save their money.
⭐ 1/5 – Look elsewhere for a truly relaxing spa day.

This was our first ever over night spa stay at Hoar cross, and will be our last. The place was too busy and we were unable to do most things in the spa. Considering we had stayed the night before and were up early, you’d have though at some point we would have had chance to fully enjoy the facilities- this was not the case.
The room was very noisy, due to a large generator outside our window.
The ballroom restaurant absolutely stank of fish on the evening meal - due to the fact most of the menu had fish on it!
Everything over all is very expensive, which we didn’t mind as it was a treat for us to go, but sadly didn’t live up to the expectations.
Instructions in regards to where to go and put our stuff for the spa were not simple. Told by receptionist to go down to spa with our belongings, then while we got lost and met another couple who also had their belongings with them and were trying to find where to go also, we asked a member of staff who told us to go back to to hotel reception! Waking round in circles - so much for a relax.
They really need to limit numbers to accessing the spa, as we found there were no empty lockers in the ladies changing rooms, There were no free heated loungers all day, There was no space to get in the heated outdoor pools No space to sit on the sofas around the fire No beds in the snooze rooms, no waterbeds free in the other rooms.
Everywhere was too busy! For our first visit, it will sadly be our last as I feel for the price it was certainly not worth it.
The staff are outstanding and lovely and could not fault.
Spa treatment was equally as lovely.

It depends what you're looking for. I've been to a few. Carden spa is more "instagramable" but hoar cross is the best all over experience I've had. I'd argue with the new outdoor area, they becoming more "instagrammable" too. I'll be going back again and again.
There are more places to choose from in the Hoar Cross area.
