We had a small gathering at the Shoulder of Mutton following the funeral at Barton Church. We knew that Neil had only recently taken over this establishment when we booked. He ensured that we had plenty of tasty food with hot drinks included in the price per head. Everyone was happy with the food and service. We would not hesitate...

Last time I stayed in Barton was 10 years ago, at a friend's house next door. So my destination seemed immediately comfortable, and experience proved it to be. Neil took over this pub 6 months ago. He is welcoming and attentive, he has refreshed the bedrooms, while the pub and its loos etc were already sorted. My stay was good...

Decided to try the food as I have been in this pub a few times and seen some great dishes come out of the kitchen. Staff are very friendly giving you a warm welcome. A great selection of dishes on the menu and the chalk board was full too. We both opted for Chicken & Leek pie, one chips and...

What a delight to find Neil is in charge at the Shoulder. Always a great welcome great food and fantastic beer. Reckon the Horse and Jockey are really missing his talents. The pies are work having, succulent beef in a rich gravy. Fish is always a good choice as well. Sunday lunch next.

Wow! Visited here tonight as we were staying up the road and wanted to dine at an independent establishment. We weren't disappointed! This is a lovely old pub with a roaring fire and contemporary restaurant. We were welcomed by a very friendly bar man who gave us as much attention as he did his regulars. Felt really comfortable, nothing was...

My husband and I visited here on the 9th Feb 2017, and was greeted from the start with a warm and cosy atmosphere. The lady behind the bar was friendly, attentive and gave a great service. Was fantastic to see locally sourced produce was included on the descriptions on the menu. Will defiantly be back, thank you for a great...

had planned to meet at another pub in the area but they were not serving food that day so went to the shoulder of Mutton instead and very pleased we did. There was just one member of staff on bar and waiting and she was lovely. Very friendly and attentive but not over powering. Nothing too much trouble. They had...

Fabulous Sunday Lunch, home cooked and fantastic portion size. Worth paying the extra Pound to upgrade to all 4 meats. Serves until 7pm so ideal if you need flexibility on your Sunday. Great Customer Service from the new owner, we will definitely be returning!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a much loved community pub in the heart of one of Staffordshire's prettiest villages - Barton under Needwood. We're close to the A38, National Memorial Aboretum at Alrewas and nearby Lichfield and Burton upon Trent. Our B&B has 4 ensuite bedrooms and is currently being refurbished - we hope to reopen them in January 2016. We have a warm, welcoming lounge bar, more lively pool and darts bar together with a children's indoor play room, free parking and lovely beer garden. We serve home-cooked, comfort food - simple but delicious! ... more   less
