We have never been to The Old Rectory on the lake for Valentine's Day so it was great that John and Ricky could fit us in for what was the start of their 2014 season. When we arrived there were flowers and chocolates on our bed which was a real nice touch. As usual Ricky's food stole our hearts and...

You still hold The Old Rectory on the lake award for the most visits to us Ann and we so really appreciate you coming back to stay with us whatever the time of the year. It was our pleasure that we were able to accommodate you for Valentine's Day and I will tell our butcher, Hayden, that you really enjoyed...

The setting for the Old Rectory by the Lake is very fine and the restaurant and 4 rooms look out over the lake to a sheer glacial valley side beyond. John and Rick's hospitality is excellent and the food - featuring local Welsh produce - is memorable. Altogether a very welcoming and charming Guest House.

I returned to The Old Rectory on the lake with great expectations and was not let down at all. This is an incredible place and no wonder there are so many glowing reviews on here. The champagne was flowing that night as they had been just been advised that in December it would be announced that they had been awarded...

In celebration of my up and coming 50th in mid November I wanted to climb Cadair Idris with my three offspring and needed accommodation close by. The Old Rectory surpassed all my expectations, John and Ricky were excellent hosts and the location, accommodation and food was just wonderful. Beautiful autumnal colours all around. It was such great fun taking part in the great birthday subterfuge and it was a pleasure to meet you, your parents and very personable children. Many congratulations for getting to the summit of Cadair despite the appalling conditions and we are pleased the Craig Goch bath worked its magic afterwards! We also greatly appreciated the emails and card (with...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory on the lake has been overlooking Tal-y-llyn, in south Snowdonia for over a hundred years. This imposing residence stands on the foothills of Cader Idris and offers five star luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation in a stunning setting. It is the ideal base for the discerning visitor to explore this particularly quiet and unspoilt scenic area of Wales. We are equidistant between the bustling market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau and the delightful coastal village of Aberdyfi. The Old Rectory on the lake has three double letting rooms - all ensuite - and all look out onto the lake. Our bathrooms upstairs were described as being 'outstanding contemporary ensuites' by the Visit Wales inspector when awarding us five stars.Already our culinary reputation is beginning to spread - indeed we have even been mentioned by name in The House of Commons during a debate on Welsh produce. Our chef can cater for any dietary requirement. The Old Rectory on the lake is licensed. We suggest that this is the ultimate place to unwind; the scenery is breath taking and the silence deafening. All our beds have crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and freshly laundered fluffy towels are in every bathroom and also in the sauna and out outdoor hot tub area which - like most of our windows - looks out over the ever changing Talyllyn - enthusiastically penned in our entry in Alistair Sawday's Special Places to Stay book as ' large, lovely and luminous'.We look forward to perhaps welcoming you here very soon. ... more   less
