We had a lovely two-night stay at Shieldhall. Sarah was a most welcoming and charming hostess. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed with fresh ground coffee and biscuits provided as well as a selection of teas/chocolate. Delicious breakfasts are cooked to order and include local produce. The six of us had dinner on the Friday - an excellent... More

There's not a thing I would change about our recent experience at Shieldhall. Besides excellent bedroom and bathroom facilities, there were so many thoughtful touches: a jar of homemade cookies in the room; not just equipment for making coffee/tea but also a teapot; towels already heated on the rack when we arrived; a magnifying mirror in the bathroom. We had... More

This B&B is special - supremely comfortable, most attractively converted old buildings, and we were very well looked after by the delightful young owners. Book well in advance. You will not be disappointed! Several wonderful gardens to see nearby. Eating - Dinner is available if ordered that morning; the Ox 5 mins away is good honest fare; the Beresford Arms... More

We needed a place to stay for one night and came across Shield Hall - and what a good job we did! Super location, fantastic room (Mahogany) and lovely people. Will be looking to book again (and stay for longer) later in the year!

This was our fourth visit to Shieldhall and we always feel as though we are arriving to stay with friends. Sarah, John, Steven ,Celia and the girls make you feel so welcome. The rooms are fabulous - we always request the Elm room for the twin beds. Sarah is such a good cook and John makes a wonderful wine waiter.... More

Gosh, what can I say? I will run out of wonderful adjectives. I could perhaps sum up with ...beautiful house, beautiful food and run by beautiful people. The family that run Shieldhall are delightfully warm, friendly and helpful and the thought and care put into making our stay of three nights so comfortable and welcoming was amazing. The room /en... ...property, setting, accommodation, breakfast and, something else which seems more and more to be a rare experience - fabulous, friendly, welcoming hosts. We were attending a family wedding and had originally booked 1 night's accommodation which I changed to 2. I'm so glad we did. Totally relaxing, and we were able to chill for the whole morning of the wedding... More

We travelled with friends who enjoy the good things of life and we were not disappointed. Lovely accommodation, great welcome and most enjoyable meals. A good touring base for the Borders (but garages well spaced out in the country), and much to see, some places needing at least a whole day. Will return again..

Shieldhall was everything I hoped it would be. We were greeted by Stephen and shown around the property, which is stunning, and met the lovely Sarah and John who settled us into our beautiful rooms. We had the Oak Room and the Elm Room - both individual, beautifully furnished, and large lovely warm bathrooms. There is so much attention to... More
