This is our second time staying at this hotel - Holy Island is small and hotel availability is limited. We were delighted to discover the hotel rooms have been upgraded since our last stay and had a boutique slant with hardwood floors. The views from room 10 are spectacular but there was rather an odd adornment of giant golden balls, which frankly just took up room in a nice, large space. It was an odd addition on a remote island and must’ve been a huge ‘ball’ ache to manoeuvre into the 2nd floor room with an awkward staircase, I couldn’t fathom the reason why? The most disappointing part of our stay was the lack of any hot water to shower or bathe. We raised it with reception, well the one member of staff who was in attendance and she was of little help. Her response at the time and on check out was ‘I’ve let the management know, but haven’t had a response’. We were charged full price of £189 for the evening which isn’t good enough when basic facilities like hot water are not available, I asked on checkout if someone could contact us to discuss as to the reasons why and she responded ‘you’d be better off telephoning us’ I’m still waiting a response 5 days later. There are large areas of damp and where leaks have occurred which look unsightly and the glass panel at the reception door is shattered which doesn’t give a great impression at check in. We were slightly early due to tide crossings and us as well as others were told no checking in until 2 pm as he still needs to hoover.

We spent time in the bar on the evening, but the fire remained unlit and it was a very chilly evening. The range of drinks and food are good, but the welcome at the Crown and Anchor opposite is far nicer and much warmer. It had a much cosier atmosphere, as does the Ship where we opted to dine.

Breakfast on checkout day was a little shambolick - a toaster to make your own toast with supermarket bread, instant coffee and a boiler, a bowl containing an apple and a banana and cereal. The hot offering was better but the sausages were cold which is a shame as they were really nice quality. Poached eggs were excellent, but only one indictable wrapped butter left for a toasted muffin. There was one member of staff present and we had to wait until she moved furniture for us as she said she was expecting a table of 6 who shouted up that they’d taken two separate tables and hadn’t thought to say.

It’s disappointing as we love Holy Islsnd, but I don’t think I would return. Overall overpriced and doesn’t follow through on their offering.

Stunning location and the sea view room gives you two amazing views; one of the castle and one of the Priory, and stunning sunrises and sunsets, respectively. The room was beautifully appointed and cosy.

Staff were extremely friendly & and informative, and I agree with all the previous recent reviews. The cooked breakfast for vegans was hearty and tasty. The loan of the binoculars was much appreciated, enabling sightings of the grey seals. Highly recommended.

Location of this hotel is no doubt the best on the island being right next to the church and priory and with excellent views of the castle and the sea. Great beer garden out the front which was the perfect spot for an afternoon beer and to watch the sunset. Breakfast on the two mornings we were there were very fulfilling and both nights we ate dinner at the hotel and the portion sizes were extremely generous. Richard that organised breakfast for us was extremely friendly and helpful giving us some great tips on what we could do on the island and in the area. if we were ever to return to Holy Island I would definitely return to Manor House and will certainly be recommending to others as well.

My hubby and I are hoping to return to Lindisfarne. We did not have the time we needed to see everything on this visit (without missing the opportunity to drive off the island before the tide rose to cut off the road!). So we will be back and hope to stay the night, but I can guarantee we will not be seeking rooms at this hotel based on our dining experience. The bar/restaurant is open throughout the day, but it must be terribly understaffed since finding someone to wait on the several couples in line at our arrival time (just before noon) was excruciatingly long. When the man did show up at the bar, he was disinterested and mildly condescending. Between orders he would disappear for long periods. The sandwiches were passable but, honestly, not worth the wait nor were they special in any way. The best part of the whole experience was getting out of the shabby restaurant and sitting outside to enjoy the weather (so, there's that positive). Also, the carrot cake wasn't bad. Before leaving, we used the toilets, and they could use a deep cleaning. While sitting outside, we noticed greenery growing out of the eaves and the need of a fresh paint job, all of which screamed to us that the hotel needs some TLC, some elbow grease, and an update.

Two trips this week, two adults. We always feel slightly disappointed when we come here. The service is usually sub-par but the food really delicious.

Trip 1 - Lunch dining only. Our food was taken to the wrong table and was cold so we were completely let down. There was no apology by staff nor action to rite this. I was left to make two trips to recover our food to the correct table.

Trip 2 - 1 night's stay. £184 for the night. The room is very impressive on first sight and we had a good view of the castle, priory and church. But - there was mould on the bathroom sealant and the bathroom blinds are damaged. The tables were dog-eared around the edges. The marble fire place was very nice and the tea tray was good.

We were only given one towel, so went to ask for more. The man said he would bring these to our room and three hours later we still didn't have the towels. Went and asked for them again and he said he had forgotten, and went to get these for us finally.

We had booked a dinner reservation for 7pm, and after some confusion by the staff on where they were putting us, we were seated and then left for 15 minutes before they came back to take our order. We finally got our food another 40 minutes later and the lady server had to go in search of cutlery and napkins as none were at the usual station where you can collect them from. The food was delicious thankfully, as we felt the service was sub-par like usual.

Overall - I would say delicious food, but poor service, and ok rooms but slightly disappointing rooms for such a large price.

Interesting start as unable to open the door to our room. Apparently the Yale lock had somehow locked itself from the inside. We sat outside on a bench for a while until the manager had fixed the door.

When we got to the room we then found out that the door was unable to be locked from the outside as the lock wasn't aligned correctly with the bit it sits in.
Got the manager back and he managed to fix it.

He was very apologetic but we understand these things happen and it was handled as well as could be.
(However after checking

After that everything went perfectly!

Room 10 was amazing!
Views from 2 sides with the most picturesque view of the castle (and an impressive sunrise in the morning)
Had a table and 2 chairs so could just sit and enjoy the view.
(The rooms with the views are more expensive but so worth it!)

The room was big with plenty of space and storage.

Nice bathroom with an enormous bath (with shower)

We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant on our first night and the food was very impressive.
The burger (made on site) was great. Had a really nice taste and mincy texture in a very nice bun.
The fries that came with it were some of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and very soft inside.
Prices for the food were comparable to other places on the island.

No noise at all overnight and slept very well.

Breakfast (included in the room price) was also good. I got the sausage (really meaty), bacon (quite a few pieces!) & poached egg (perfectly cooked)

My wife got the scrambled egg with smoked salmon. The egg was a bit like an omelette but still nice. The salmon was very nice but it was a very large portion (and we felt bad leaving some)

Can't complain about the location. Especially as the town is so small! 15 min walk to the castle and a few places to eat very close.

I recommend staying overnight if you're visiting the island. Once the causeway is closed the island is very quiet and peaceful. I walked to the castle in the afternoon and only saw a few people around.

Not an issue for us but be aware that there's no lift so if you're on the top floor there's some stairs to get there.
Also the WiFi in our room was very spotty.

We greatly enjoyed our two night stay here and I would highly recommend this hotel for the room, the food, the staff and the location, and would happily stay here again in the future.

Although I would say I agree with some others that have reviewed this hotel and say that as it is more expensive than other places on the island some of the smaller issues should definitely get sorted (the door lock, the towel rail, the creaky bed etc.) as these minor issues might add up a bit too much for some people. Personally the view made everything worthwhile for us.

We loved our stay at the Manor House in early May. The inn was very clean, quaint, and quiet! The staff was very friendly and accommodating - we immediately felt like we were staying with new friends. Shout out to Rich and Ashley and the attentive blond woman with whom I had a lengthy discussion on the difference between "fudge" and "chocolate" - ha! Food was good - plenty of variety and because I am gluten free, it was nice to have many options. The garden area was lovely for sitting in the afternoon to people watch, chat, read, and drink a pint. Our only dislike was the mattress. Ooof. Our room could have used a new one. We didn't feel it necessary to say anything at the time because it was unlikely that they would have been able to conjure up a different one due to the remote location.

We visited the island and popped into the pub today for lunch. One of our party uses a wheelchair and access into and around the property was the only good thing about our experience. One member of our party is gluten intolerant- I asked if there were any gluten free dishes on the menu, I was told, quite dismissively that it would be marked gf, but any sandwiches could be made with gluten free bread. There were no marks on the menu.. we questioned this and again dismissively told it's only on the evening menu ! As we were settled in the pub we ordered. The friend who is gluten intolerant is also lactose intolerant - when asked if there was lactose free spread the server let out a long sigh. Maybe shouldn't be working on a customer facing job.
I had a fish finger sandwich which had nice pieces of battered fish, but they were in bread soggy from sauce and wet salad. Not cheap either ! Wished we had chosen another pub.
Wouldn't recommend and certainly won't be back.

We stayed at the Manor House for one night and were very impressed by the welcome we received, the quality of the accommodation and food, and the value for money. The attention from the staff was exemplary; they went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We stayed in Room 3, which has amazing views to the harbour, the castle and the priory. We will definitely stay again, and recommend the Manor House to our friends.

Overall a comfortable stay at the Manor House Hotel for three nights. The location is of course absolutely perfect and the views at mealtimes unparalleled.

The food was also excellent - especially breakfast - and vegan diets are well catered-for.

The staff were generally very friendly and helpful. We were especially impressed by the young girl who seemed to be the only member of staff working during the busy evening meal period on Tuesday night - she did an amazing job at holding the fort alone.

The room was comfy, if in need of a little TLC.

Unfortunately, we arrived to find that some litter had been left in the dressing table drawer (presumably from a previous occupant) - this included a half-drunk alcoholic beverage. While not very pleasant to encounter when you’ve just arrived and have started unpacking, we do understand that hotels have a busy turnaround period between guests and this was obviously something that had just been missed. What was unacceptable was what followed. We politely mentioned it to a member of staff (young man with a beard) who made no apology but assured us it would be cleaned away. We went out for a walk and came back over an hour and a half later to find nothing had been done. I popped down and encountered the same staff member again, who was this time very abrupt and dismissive in his manner (as if a simple, friendly request from a paying guest was an inconvenience) and said that someone else was coming up. We waited but still no one came, so in the end took it down ourselves. It shouldn’t be up to guests to clean up after the previous room occupant. If this had been dealt with straightaway and an apology offered, we would have given a higher review rating, but the tone of this staff member made us feel unwelcome on our first night - so much so that we chose to eat elsewhere that evening despite having a table booking. Thankfully everyone else was lovely and the rest of our stay was very pleasant.
