We spent time in the bar on the evening, but the fire remained unlit and it was a very chilly evening. The range of drinks and food are good, but the welcome at the Crown and Anchor opposite is far nicer and much warmer. It had a much cosier atmosphere, as does the Ship where we opted to dine.
Breakfast on checkout day was a little shambolick - a toaster to make your own toast with supermarket bread, instant coffee and a boiler, a bowl containing an apple and a banana and cereal. The hot offering was better but the sausages were cold which is a shame as they were really nice quality. Poached eggs were excellent, but only one indictable wrapped butter left for a toasted muffin. There was one member of staff present and we had to wait until she moved furniture for us as she said she was expecting a table of 6 who shouted up that they’d taken two separate tables and hadn’t thought to say.
It’s disappointing as we love Holy Islsnd, but I don’t think I would return. Overall overpriced and doesn’t follow through on their offering.

Staff were extremely friendly & and informative, and I agree with all the previous recent reviews. The cooked breakfast for vegans was hearty and tasty. The loan of the binoculars was much appreciated, enabling sightings of the grey seals. Highly recommended.

Trip 1 - Lunch dining only. Our food was taken to the wrong table and was cold so we were completely let down. There was no apology by staff nor action to rite this. I was left to make two trips to recover our food to the correct table.
Trip 2 - 1 night's stay. £184 for the night. The room is very impressive on first sight and we had a good view of the castle, priory and church. But - there was mould on the bathroom sealant and the bathroom blinds are damaged. The tables were dog-eared around the edges. The marble fire place was very nice and the tea tray was good.
We were only given one towel, so went to ask for more. The man said he would bring these to our room and three hours later we still didn't have the towels. Went and asked for them again and he said he had forgotten, and went to get these for us finally.
We had booked a dinner reservation for 7pm, and after some confusion by the staff on where they were putting us, we were seated and then left for 15 minutes before they came back to take our order. We finally got our food another 40 minutes later and the lady server had to go in search of cutlery and napkins as none were at the usual station where you can collect them from. The food was delicious thankfully, as we felt the service was sub-par like usual.
Overall - I would say delicious food, but poor service, and ok rooms but slightly disappointing rooms for such a large price.

When we got to the room we then found out that the door was unable to be locked from the outside as the lock wasn't aligned correctly with the bit it sits in.
Got the manager back and he managed to fix it.
He was very apologetic but we understand these things happen and it was handled as well as could be.
(However after checking
After that everything went perfectly!
Room 10 was amazing!
Views from 2 sides with the most picturesque view of the castle (and an impressive sunrise in the morning)
Had a table and 2 chairs so could just sit and enjoy the view.
(The rooms with the views are more expensive but so worth it!)
The room was big with plenty of space and storage.
Nice bathroom with an enormous bath (with shower)
We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant on our first night and the food was very impressive.
The burger (made on site) was great. Had a really nice taste and mincy texture in a very nice bun.
The fries that came with it were some of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and very soft inside.
Prices for the food were comparable to other places on the island.
No noise at all overnight and slept very well.
Breakfast (included in the room price) was also good. I got the sausage (really meaty), bacon (quite a few pieces!) & poached egg (perfectly cooked)
My wife got the scrambled egg with smoked salmon. The egg was a bit like an omelette but still nice. The salmon was very nice but it was a very large portion (and we felt bad leaving some)
Can't complain about the location. Especially as the town is so small! 15 min walk to the castle and a few places to eat very close.
I recommend staying overnight if you're visiting the island. Once the causeway is closed the island is very quiet and peaceful. I walked to the castle in the afternoon and only saw a few people around.
Not an issue for us but be aware that there's no lift so if you're on the top floor there's some stairs to get there.
Also the WiFi in our room was very spotty.
We greatly enjoyed our two night stay here and I would highly recommend this hotel for the room, the food, the staff and the location, and would happily stay here again in the future.
Although I would say I agree with some others that have reviewed this hotel and say that as it is more expensive than other places on the island some of the smaller issues should definitely get sorted (the door lock, the towel rail, the creaky bed etc.) as these minor issues might add up a bit too much for some people. Personally the view made everything worthwhile for us.
I had a fish finger sandwich which had nice pieces of battered fish, but they were in bread soggy from sauce and wet salad. Not cheap either ! Wished we had chosen another pub.
Wouldn't recommend and certainly won't be back.
The food was also excellent - especially breakfast - and vegan diets are well catered-for.
The staff were generally very friendly and helpful. We were especially impressed by the young girl who seemed to be the only member of staff working during the busy evening meal period on Tuesday night - she did an amazing job at holding the fort alone.
The room was comfy, if in need of a little TLC.
Unfortunately, we arrived to find that some litter had been left in the dressing table drawer (presumably from a previous occupant) - this included a half-drunk alcoholic beverage. While not very pleasant to encounter when you’ve just arrived and have started unpacking, we do understand that hotels have a busy turnaround period between guests and this was obviously something that had just been missed. What was unacceptable was what followed. We politely mentioned it to a member of staff (young man with a beard) who made no apology but assured us it would be cleaned away. We went out for a walk and came back over an hour and a half later to find nothing had been done. I popped down and encountered the same staff member again, who was this time very abrupt and dismissive in his manner (as if a simple, friendly request from a paying guest was an inconvenience) and said that someone else was coming up. We waited but still no one came, so in the end took it down ourselves. It shouldn’t be up to guests to clean up after the previous room occupant. If this had been dealt with straightaway and an apology offered, we would have given a higher review rating, but the tone of this staff member made us feel unwelcome on our first night - so much so that we chose to eat elsewhere that evening despite having a table booking. Thankfully everyone else was lovely and the rest of our stay was very pleasant.
