My family and I have stayed several times in this guest house. Rooms are OK if a bit shabbily maintained and often not very clean. It’s an odd place. You have to tell the manager exactly when you want breakfast, rather than waking up at leisure and having it at a flexible time. This is because the two staff members are part timers living off site. What I really don’t like is the Old Brewhouse’s unusually long cancellation policy. Fourteen days, compared to 48-24 hours in most other places. This is expensive if something forces you to cancel, as happened to me lately, over 72 hours before I was due to arrive. The owner lives far away, and clearly it’s a money making concern only for him. We won’t be going there again. Of course people need to make a living from their investments but as a hotel user you don’t want that fact rammed home. My recent experience left me feeling blamed (as well as charged) for cancelling. That’s not what I expect.

I think by reading other reviews we got the worst room. A shame really because the place was nearly empty. Our room was the one mentioned in other reviews with the shower and the wash basin taking up the same space (#5 I think) The room faces the street and just was not welcoming. It must be the room because so many others mention how clean and spacious the others are. Anyway the lady at the desk was friendly enough. Maybe it was the end of the season vibe or that it was so quiet we were just expecting something different. We couldn't even buy a beer there... Had to walk up to the town which is fine but I just had a different vision of the place. The breakfast was ok. French press coffee which was a first on the walk. The lady serving breakfast was really nice and seemed interested in our walk and experience. I think in summary, this place is fine and works but if I were returning to Richmond I would see what else I could find in the price range. Definitely request a different room if you stay there.

We stayed room no 9 which was supposed to be the best room. This room is on the ground floor in the annexe. The bathroom window opened up to next door with the path running right under the window!!! So, when you were having a shower you had to keep the window shut, which meant the room got steamed up, when you open the door of the bathroom to go into the bedroom, this lets out the steam, which then leads to the bedroom having a bit of a damp feel about it. This is a shame because apart from that we really enjoyed our stay, lovely friendly lady (Kiku ) keeps it in perfect order. Location right near the river but a very steep walk to the town centre. This is a guest house really suited for walkers, they even have a room to clean you boots. If we came back to Richmond we would like stay here again but in another room. Thanks Kiku for your lovely smiles when ever we met.

Spent a very comfortable night here in room 3. Lovely view of the Green and Castle. Good size room, comfortable beds, large bathroom. Excellent WiFi. Great breakfast. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Steep hilly walk up into town!

My Mum and I stayed in room 3 and it had a lovely adjoining balcony where we were able to sit out! Our room overlooked the green and there was a lovely view of Richmond Castle from our window. Initially a little noisy at night with drivers revving up Cravengate, but that soon subsided and it was really quiet! We had a really good nights sleep, very comfortable thank you! Kika and her staff were wonderful! So friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble! Wonderful breakfast options available every day and even packed lunches are offered for walking groups; I really do think that everyone at The Old Brewery Guest House bends over backwards to welcome their guests. We will definitely be returning! 😊😊😊
