Stayed as a couple for 1 night on a Saturday. Firstly we booked via booking.com as the hotel is rather difficult to make reservations with. First impression on driving up to the hotel were good as it’s rather pretty. Reception is nice and very traditional. On check in there is a sign on the desk stating “no night porter service...

My husband and I have just returned from afternoon tea at the hotel. After reading previous reviews I was hesitant to go but I need not have worried. The finger sandwiches were fresh with a selection of beef, salmon, ham and egg mayonnaise, the cakes were plentiful with scones, chocolate brownie, sponge cake, trifle and shortbread. There were fresh strawberries...

Nice traditional hotel. Staff are helpful and rooms are large. Some need a bit of TLC but that's what sets it apart from the normal big chain hotels. Food is freshly cooked and any alterations to the menu are made without bother, All round great little local hotel.

Decided to catch up with a friend by using her groupon voucher which meant it was half price. At first we were asked tea or coffee and then the stand for 2 people arrived with 5 miniature sandwiches instead of six. No cream or jam for the pre sliced scone and a small jelly and cream which should have been...

We attended a family wedding at the Whitehall and it's a very pretty, traditional venue. It feels opulent without being pretentious and we found the staff to be very helpful throughout. The rooms are nicely done, if ready for a bit of TLC, and the beds very comfortable. Overall, it was a good venue for a wedding or other occasion,...

I purchased two vouchers as gifts at Christmas time for two different people for afternoon tea. . Tried to book in before the voucher expires in 5 week's time and was given an option of one date and one time! This date was unfortunately not convenient. My vouchers say Monday to Saturday but the manager said it had changed now...

Well me and the wife were spending the weekend in this holel going to a wedding. When we got there the customer service was amazing, very welcoming and helpful. However, when we got to the room it was very dated to say the least, the shower was just about a trickle and the bed felt like it would fall apart...

Visited this prestigious hotel for Afternoon Tea. We were seated at very low coffee tables not dining tables. Can honestly say it was not at all what we expected and we have had lots of different afternoon teas. The dainty finger sandwiches which we hoped to have were thick crusty bread sandwiches more like "doorstoppers". The scones were OK but...

I have been looking at your hotel as a potential venue, however my concern seen by my partner to a recent reviews about poor service where of no great concerns given peoples differing opinions.

However my one major area of concern is with your apparent substandard food hygiene rating as identified on ratings.food.gov.uk/business/en-GB/212113/Whitehall-Hotel-Darwen by the local council

The site rates your establishment as a 2 – Improvement necessary at the date of inspection on the 03 August 2016

Area inspected by food safety officer Standards found

Hygienic food handling - Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage - Generally satisfactory

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene - Improvement necessary

Management of food safety - System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future. -Generally satisfactory

What can you do as a potential visitor to alleviate my concerns of not becoming ill due to your poor food preparation standards especially around the

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building which was reported as “Improvement necessary”?

Can you advise of why such a highly rated venue would achieve such a low score?

Can you confirm what improvements you have made?

Can you ensure your food preparation is of a standard rather than of a dodgy back street café or take-away?
