Stayed just the one night, excellent value at £50 for a single room and breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was tidy, clean, and warm, with plenty of gear for making your own hot drinks. Not huge, but perfect for a short stay. Mattress was a touch soft for me, but that's personal preference. I went for the...

My partner and I stayed here last minute. The room was all that it needed to be for an overnight stay. Comfy bed, adequate en-suite, the room was a little chilly . Breakfast the next morning was nice and the staff (Megan) was friendly and efficient . As the title says ...good value for money .

I stayed in the single room for a single night and it was comfortable. The staff were helpful and got the TV working for me. Good breakfast. The room was on the small side and so I don't think I would like to spend a week in it.

The Christmas decorations here are amazing. What a fabulous place to stay to get you into a festive mood. Our room was gorgeous with a four poster bed and lovely big bathroom. Very clean too with lots of towels and little toiletries. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere, we'll definitely stay again.

A welcoming pub/hotel, good food, and value for money. The bedrooms were well equipped for the price - clean with comfortable beds. One of the down sides was the noisy traffic from the main road staring at 5-am. The breakfast was good but the help yourself to tea and coffee - cereal etc was ok but had to remind them...

Stayed here for one night . The check in was conducted by a nice gentleman who had a friendly attitude and a smile. I booked a double room even though I was travelling alone as the difference in price was minimal and I like a large bed. The room itself was large clean and well appointed and the bed was...

Pleasant rooms and facilities but the Fire Alarm went off at 2:25am. Hotel refuse to give any money off full price. Not what you expect when you pay good money for a good nights sleep. Not ideal customer service?

The greeting was slow and offhand, that is our welcome greeting was "all right?" We opted for the carvery and my wife loved the vegetables, there were none there that I would eat but the carver kindly offered to get me peas. The steak and ale pie was one of the best I have had, exceptional for a mad produced...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Dave and Tracy extend a warm welcome and invite you to join them in this relaxed, warm and friendly Hotel in the heart of Essex. We bought the hotel in 2006 and have worked hard to develop a hotel where you can eat, drink and feel part of the family in a traditional English Pub setting. We have listened to what our customers want, and have a comprehensive menu with British Dishes, selected specials and we source wherever possible local ingredients. You can also enjoy our infamous carvery every Sunday, guaranteed to fill even the heartiest appetite! A fine range of ales and superb quality wines (every last one tasted by Dave - guaranteed!) are available, an excellent selection of spirits and liqueurs and to round off your evening, we have one of the best liqueur coffee menu’s for miles! We have original beams, open fireplaces, and oak floors that go creak in the night. Our hotel rooms are sympathetically refurbished, spotlessly clean and in keeping with tradition we even offer uneven and wonky 13th Century walls! All rooms have ensuite facilities, TV, tea & coffee and iron & ironing board. We can offer our function facilities for meetings, birthdays (21 and above only), anniversaries or just family get togethers, whatever the occasion we can help!We have a comfortable BBQ and Patio Garden at the rear of the premises which can be enjoyed weather permitting, and car parking is available to the rear of the hotel. ... more   less
