Just had a two night stay at Rothmans whilst visiting relatives in the area. Initially chose Rothmans due to its location and that it was dog friendly. The house is absolutely beautiful with a lovely staircase and all period features. Initial impressions of our room (The Regency ) was that it was rather dated and cluttered with a mix of...

I stayed here for a few days a week, for 9 weeks, spread over many rooms. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed staying here: Peter was very nice at all times (always willing to help with any problem I had), the breakfast was good (with a good selection of cooked foods to choose from, even for a vegetarian like me), and...

A really lovely B&B - the house really is beautiful. I was in contact with Peter a lot and communication was always prompt. He's very flexible which worked perfectly for our stay for V. We would definitely stay again. Thank you for a lovely stay :)

We had the grave misfortune of staying here one night with the other creatures which inhabit this run down monolithic, crumbling establishment. The rooms are furnished with brown shabby furniture presumably from the local dump with threadbare rugs and dirty old cushions. The bathrooms have mould growing in every corner that is not partly sealed with old mastic. The furniture,...

My husband & I were attending a wedding locally - so I booked us in to Rothmans for 2 nights. We had the Four Poster Bedroom - which is a lovely size and overlooks the gardens. Unfortunately the 'en suite' spoils this room - it is so small. Peter the owner is very 'hands on' and does his best for...

If you want posh, modern and spotless this is not the place for you. If you like slanting floors, creaking and real Ye Olde Character this is the place for you. You will get directions emailed to you (don't forget them like we did). Breakfast was awesome! Highly recommended!

Hi "Jethro" I hope I wasn't too quirky, old and creaking. Yes I love this beautiful house too and it's great to share it with people like you Thanks Peter

Stayed at Rothmans for one night last week, No sign of anyone for hours, but had door codes so able to use room. Coffee making kit in room, milk etc in fridge downstairs, chocolate bar to compensate. NO ENSUITE which I didn't notice when booking, not even a wash-basin in the room. Dreary, dull lighting on landing which made tapping...

I have to say all in all the b&b was pleasant. I stayed in the four poster room with my daughter which was really nice minus unfortuentley a big issue i had with the cleanliness of the bathroom which I spoke to the owner about and he was going to contact his cleaning staff to address the issue. Apart from...

Stayed here twice, one for a long course of 9 days/nights second for the last part which was 5 days/nights. Very happy with the service and the welcome. Very friendly but also left me alone to do what I needed to do. I was undertaking a course that meant I was drained physically and mentally, and being left alone was...

I spent two nights here. I didn't spend Ritz money so didn't expect Ritz quality. Money needs spending here as old building with original features, but some TLC would really help. It is comfortable, not exceptionally clean and has shared facilities. It's shining light is the wonderful breakfast. I would stay again. It is the only accommodation I have stayed at...

Thank you for your review. I do try to greet everyone (sometimes I am at the family end of the house, so miss people's arrival) And I do check that guests have arrived but don't wish to dismay them with a late knock on the door! The building is ad 1600 and extremely expensive to maintain (many £1000s each year)...
