I could not fault the food, both dinner and breakfast were lovely. However we slept in the room 'any thing is possible' and the noise from the bar below was just far to loud, which when trying to sleep makes it impossible!!! I worst thing about the pub was the language from a group of men at the pub (which...

Went for a Sunday roast unfortunately by 2pm this had all finished. Went for the sharing steak dish, this was average and took for absolutely ever to appear. At £42 I thought it was rather pricey. The young staff were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, but I do not think we will be visiting again sadly.

Hello tinac0llis and thank you for writing your review of Sunday lunch at the Bell. I understand that you had a cote de boeuf served well done. This is quite a chunk of beef, which we recommend to be served medium rare as that is when it as it's most tender. cooking the cote de boeuf this way takes 40...

Two night stay for my birthday. Stayed in the Love Nest with the huge copper bath. Log stove, huge comfy bed, roof terrace(unused due awful weather ) usual comforts in the room. Top deck had a fire pit. (Unused!) Restaurant was very good and bar was welcoming and friendly. Well balanced wine list menu had enough for all tastes. Plenty...

Hello nicholas h and thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Bell. You should have done it - stayed another night, wallowed in that big copper bath, warmed yourself in front of the log burner and enjoyed another meal in the restaurant. Maybe next time? Regards Howard

We just spent 2 nights in the Pour L'amour lodge located in the garden area of The Bell. The room was comfortable with a great super king size bed, a beautiful ceiling decorated with roses, a lovely bathroom and large TV. We weren't able to use the outside fire in the private yard due to the weather but you could...

In brief the tables are far far too close to each other, we booked a table for 2 but were offered a table so close to the next we might have been sharing, and we noticed that many tables were placed like this. Very sadly my first choice on the main menu was duck which was so tough it couldn't...

Hello Jane S and thank you for writing your review of the Bell. I am sorry that you are a "disappointed diner". It does sound like your visit was below par and that is unlike us, but I do hope you will give us another chance, especially as you are so close by. Regards Howard

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Bateman's. Lovely lunch of very fresh fish. Cooked and served very nicely but would have loved less fussy presentation of mushy peas; small ramekin was disproportionate with the generous fish. Lovely quirky decor and good atmosphere!

Had an absoutely wonderful stay in the Pretty Vacant Lodge. Pure luxury but with a homely feel, stylish and exceptionally compfortable bed and room. Beautiful, quirky, off-beat design, gorgeous bathroom with underfloor heating and cutetoiletries, great shower. Also a very sweet patio with option of burning a fire. Could have stayed for weeks! Loved the pub itself and restaurant food...

We stopped in for drinks after lunch and instantly fell in love so booked dinner. We adored the atmosphere. Mis matched furniture, open fire, clever design, fabulous toilets, beams made of books.... very quirky and original! And then there was the service. Friendly girls who were on the ball; unobtrusive but attentive. And then there was the food....exceptional! Not a...

Ambience is the key factor here. The public spaces in the bar and restaurant are very cosy, quirky and ooze charm. Similarly our room, quirkily named "The benefit of the doubt", was a spacious shabby chic affair with large bathroom and copper bath tub to die for. The bedding is crisp white cotton and the mattress sumptuous, if a little...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bell is a truly quirky hotel and pub in the heart of the village of Ticehurst, East Sussex. Bedrooms in the main building are warm and comfortable, some featuring a copper roll top bath. There are four lodges built around a fire pit in the garden and include the extraordinary Love Nest. The restaurant serves modern British prepared from local and seasonal ingredients, whilst locals gather in the pub for local real ales and a roaring fire in winter. Weddings and celebrations a bit of a speciality. ... more   less
