The room had style and character, and was spotless, with los of towels and toiletries. Yes, the shower is only an attachment over the bath, but it works. Yes, the room is slightly narrow up in the eaves - but it is old and beautiful. We definitely recommend it and will come again. Breakfast was perfect. Thank you.

We stayed here two nights. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly. The setting rural and quiet. And the breakfast was good. However the room was A-frame style, cramped with low wooden exposed beams that were easy to bang your head on. There was a bath, with a shower attachment but not one you could really call a shower. Stayed two nights to attend a wedding nearby. Host was very welcoming, bed very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good, could have had any combination one wished. A bit of a job to find in the dark, but if you want a very quiet location with only the birds to wake you, this is the place. Being an old dairy,... More

Stayed here on an overnight through business in the area. Only 1 letting bedroom in this lovely house. My hosts were friendly and hospitable. Room was lovely with everything you could wish for, but no TV which was not a problem for me. Breakfast was plentiful however I opted for cereal & toast so can't comment on a full engilsh... More

Such a late booking and I was very fortunate here, Janet and Andrew are extremely welcoming. The property is beautiful and the grounds match that. After a hectic day, a light tea in the gardens was just the tonic. Very well placed for the historic and scenic parts of Sussex, this really is a gem and will be back

lovely room for an overnight or weekend stay, close drive to Battle and very peaceful. Friendly couple run who offered some good local knowledge and made us feel very welcome. We found it a good hub to visit Hastings, Battle, Rye and Bexhill all reachable within a 5-15min drive.

Stayed for one night when visiting Battle Abbey and the Jerwood. The room is really pretty and the bedroom/bathroom were really comfortable and well furnished. Hosts really lovely, they converted the byre themselves and quite obviously have a passion for the area. I feel I must explain the 'average' rating. 1) There is not a 'good' rating available! 2) The... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
ST BENEDICT’S BYRE is set at the end of a farm lane, about 1.5 miles from the pretty village of Catsfield, surrounded with amazing views and walks. Battle is about four miles away; and Hastings, with its historical old town and fishing huts, seven miles. The Byre is within hitting distance of many National Trust properties: Bateman’s, Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens, Bodiam Castle and Battle Abbey. There are plenty of interesting watering holes with great Sussex fare and ales for you to enjoy, along with scrumptious afternoon teas. THE BYRE is a converted dairy and milking parlour facing south and enjoying amazing weather and sunsets. We source our entire breakfast ingredients organically from local supplies, while supplying our own fresh organic eggs. On a fine morning, you can take breakfast on the terrace watching the chickens play in the gardens and several sheep with their lambs. Depending on the time of year you visit, the chickens rub shoulders with young heifers in our three-acre field. We welcome children 12 years and over, but are unable to accommodate pets, including dogs left in cars over night. This is a smoke free house. ... more   less
