Nothing special, I've had better. Chicken was dry and hard. Although cost was taken off meal and free pudding offered. Starters were OK and ambiance was nice. As it's the only pub/restaurant in village not much else to choose from.

Enjoyed a lovely evening meal with our children and Cockapoo. Friendly staff. We enjoyed scotch egg starter and our three children shared whitebait starter, very generous portion. Great variety of children meals. Will definitely go again.

Stayed here for three nights. Welcoming, quiet and comfortable. Room very clean. Staff very helpful, waiting staff great. Food excellent, the fish and chips really is as good as everyone says! Lots of local walks. Dog friendly, lots in the bar, a real credit to their owners. All impeccably behaved and totally lovable. Highly recommended. Hope to stay again soon.

We stayed for two nights over Easter - despite the pub being really busy the staff were fantastic and really looked after us. The rooms were spotless and had everything you could need ( nice White Company toiletries). A lively, friendly pub - definitely recommend.

This was our second stay at the Ship and I have to say I would definitely go back. On our first trip we had a few smaill issues but they were dealt with and this second visit proves how they listen to customers and appreciate feedback. Well done Craig. Excellent lunch in this most dog friendly, welcoming establishment. It is obviously very popular as it was busy on a Monday lunchtime in early March. The fish & chips is as good as other reviews have stated. Worth the long walk to get there! Look forward to a return visit.

Having spent a lovely weekend at the ship l have some observations to make. At23.30 hrs the fire alarm sounded we gathered ourselves and pet dog and made our way to the road at the front of the pub . Bearing in mind that the rooms were all occupied only 8 people gathered outside. We were told by the night...

It is nice to hear that apart from the Fire Alarm incident that you did enjoy your stay. Can I take this moment to apologise for the inconvenience it caused. The alarm was inadvertently raised by another guest who mistook the call point for a light switch. Our Night Porter did his best to silence the alarm but the system...

What a fantastic place to stay. Brilliant location for walking and discovering Suffolk's beautiful villages and coast line. From the minute you arrive you are made to feel like it is your home away from home. Roaring fires, local beers, dog friendly, beautiful bedroom over-looking the marshes and all for a good price! What more can you ask? The staff...

My husband is always on a quest for top quality fish and chips but sadly The Ship failed to impress. Given The Ship says F&C is one of their 'classic' dishes with their own recipe batter we decided to give it a try. The pub itself consists of many rooms and it can be tricky to find the bar, but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Once a haunt of smugglers, The Ship Inn isn't just a great place to eat, drink, relax and get away from it all – we like to think it's also part of a great story. Now a quiet, idyllic village surrounded by nature reserves, heathland and beach, only the romantic ruins of Dunwich monastery remain to hint at the fate of this once thriving medieval port claimed by the waves during a terrible storm. It's said you can still hear the peal of the church bells beneath the waves. While we can't guarantee that, there are certain, more earthly things we're always happy to provide… real ales, real food and a real fire. You will find: a great pub, home-cooked food in our restaurant, a cosy hotel with comfortable, traditionally furnished bedrooms, some with views across the sea or marshes. There is also an enormous garden dotted with fruit trees (including our 300 year old fig tree) and a beach that really is just a couple of minutes walk away. Whether you want to use it as a base to explore this wild and wonderful coastline, enjoy some of the best fish and chips on the Suffolk coast or simply indulge in a pint or two of Adnams, The Ship Inn at Dunwich extends the warmest of welcomes. ... more   less
