Staffield hall is set in beautiful surroundings. The group I was with took over the whole house. All rooms were well appointed and fitted out, although I couldn't open dishwasher, toilet leaked, shower very noisy and no information regarding water heater. Dogs are allowed but watch out for hefty returnable surcharge. I recommend this for a family stay but be warned, despite the leaving time of 10am the cleaners started at 8am in apartments.

Me and my partner stayed for 7 nights in the lady tower along with my overly spoilt bulldog for my birthday.
We had a lovely stay and we’re very comfortable in the apartment. The WiFi was temperamental but we were content to watch DVDs and do a jigsaw anyway, no WiFi was quite nice at some points. Other reviews have noted no phone signal which is the case but you’re at a country retreat so it’s to be expected, a phone is also provided in the room so we weren’t worried about emergencies.
we had a couple of minor issues with the spa bath letting out dirt when we used it and a broken light - the owners and the housekeeper got back to us very quickly and were apologetic. We weren’t overly bothered by a little bit of dirt from the pipes and I used the bath every day regardless!
Lots of reviews mention cleaning at the end of the stay... I’m not sure why this would be an issue, we had no problem having a quick tidy! Having a dog in the property required us to clean up anyway and we were thrilled we were able to bring her. I saw a review about dirty washing being left outside rooms in bags.. this is the case but due to having common sense we didn’t root through other peoples dirty washing and get covid.

We all loved the gardens (we seemed to be better at picking up dog poo than other people) - we all enjoyed pottering around looking at the different mushrooms.
We visited the crown inn in the village twice, amazing food!
Overall we loved the hall and we loved our stay.

We stayed here in April 2021 and had a wonderful stay.

The hall and grounds were to a very high standard with many added extras.

The hall is in a scenic, peaceful and tranquil setting surrounded by breathtaking countryside. The gardens were pristine and excellently maintained. The rooms were very spacious and clean.

The owners Michael and Marie were very friendly and pleasant and always happy to help. If we had any questions or concerns these were answered promptly.
The owners were always at hand to ensure our stay was trouble free and enjoyable.

I personally cannot thank the owner enough in arranging and meeting our every need and I would highly recommended staying here - cannot be faulted in any way.

We had high expectations from the pictures prior to arriving but these were exceeded. Such a beautiful place!

The house is extremely grand externally and the grounds are simply stunning. The hot tub was cleaned whilst there and the little changing shed a lovely touch. The layout of the house is good (although we asked for a floor plan to prepare for our arrival but didn't get one, which led to a bit of confusion when we arrived) and its is tastefully decorated. Everything was clean and well appointed when we arrived. However, the beds were not comfortable at all, with a number of our party complaining about this: in our double bed we could feel the springs through the mattress. We did have a couple of issues when we were there and when we rang to get them rectified, some were (wifi issue sorted) and others weren't (we needed a bed converting back to a king from twin which wasn't facilitated). We had a maintenance man in to investigate a cupboard in one of the rooms, King Oswald, that actually smelt like something had died in there! The investigations concluded that some thing likely had(!) and there wasn't much they could do. The major negative incident occurred when delivery men were given the code for the door and opened it without any of our party being informed that this had happened. We had 6 children in the house, as well as all our possessions, and were pretty concerned from a safeguarding and security view, that strangers had access without our knowledge. They also left the delivery of 8 dining chairs in the entrance hall blocking access and creating a clear fire hazard. We did speak to a lovely man who does maintenance around the property who did come and moved the chairs, but the other staff we spoke to were quite abrupt on more than one occasion. One of these staff, a female cleaner (who we were aware was coming and going throughout our stay) left dirty laundry from another property in the same entrance hall which was a massive COVID risk from our standpoint and when questioned about it was quite rude to one of us stating the laundry company they normally used wasn't operating so she had to do washes in our machines. Overall, the house was lovely and we had a really nice time but for the price (over £6000 for 6 nights!) it wasn't very good value for money given the issues we had.

Four of us spent a week at Staffield Hall, in the King Oswald apartment. Excellent accommodation, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable, with everything you need provided. The EXCELLENT accommodation made the current COVID virus a bit more bearable. Would love to come back one day, and would certainly recommend this delightful property for an enjoyable holiday in Cumbria. Vinny, Annette, Brian and Jane from Liverpool.

Stayed here 5th to 12th June. We were in the Lady Tower the views were great and the room and bed very comfortable. Kitchen had everything you needed, although we ate out mostly. Location was really good we visited Penrith, Carlisle, Pooley Bridge, Lowther Castle and Windermere. The only complaint we had was that we ran out of loo paper on the Thursday, we did ask the housekeeper for more but we didn't get it. All in all we had a great stay and would definitely go back.

Just returned home from 3 nights in the "Lady Tower" at Staffield Hall, for our 10th wedding anniversary. Described on their website as "........a venue of eight Luxury Self Catering Lake District Apartments." The apartment itself had all of the items as described and the surrounding area is stunning, but the apartment was definitely not luxury. The wallpaper was coming off the wall in several places. The laminate floor trim was rotten below the window. The sash was broken on the bathroom window meaning that it could not be opened and left open. The springs for the armchair and the sofa in the living room were worn which meant that on the sofa you rolled into the middle and on the armchair you moved uncomfortably to a dip in the side of the chair. The veneer was damaged on the bottom of one of the cupboards in the kitchen. Amusingly..... the remote control for the tv was on the same frequency as the remote for the electric fire, change channel and the fire switched off. To make matters worse, upon our arrival, we read the room information booklet and were informed that upon leaving we had to clean the apartment or choose to forfeit the cleaning at a cost of £45. Our last morning
was spent vacuuming and cleaning including bath, sink and toilet (not what I expected to be doing on our celebration) We had to vacate the room by 10:30am - 3pm check - in.
Just one other small issue that should not be in place...... the menu that was present in the room, suggesting a local pub for food, was 9yrs out of date. Laziness really.

My wife organised this as a special weekend for us both. Bitterly disappointed

Responded 5 Aug 2016
Well we do feel really quite gutted by this response. We are so very sorry that these guests did not appreciate the hall and all its fine qualities and instead focused on whatever negative point could be found. But....why? Our manager/housekeeper spoke with you at the end of your stay and you confirmed with her that everything had been fine. So why then go home, do not make any contact at all with ourselves and then write as you have? If you have a complaint why not speak to us about it whilst you are there? At the very least allow us a chance to put a problem right for you. If you do not give us a chance is this fair to us ? and fair to yourselves? I think the main gripe you had with us was that the chair seemed to have become broken. That need not have become a problem for you. It would NOT have been charged to you by reporting the damaged item. We would simply have removed the chair and popped in another. Problem solved! The next main grievance seems to be that you think we would charge you for cleaning. No, NOT the case. Not unless you showed disrespect for the property and the fixtures & fittings provided to you in the apartment. It's only common sense as I see it that one would leave a property which have rented for a period of time, clean and tidy. Pots washed up and things put away as they should be. However we do need to protect ourselves and our interests within our terms & conditions. If you had any doubt - contact us for clarity. its easy, we have a Freephone in the room, pick up the receiver and press the Free Phone 'Office' button or the Free phone 'Mobile' button. At no time did you take the opportunity to speak with us about any issue you had. Staffield Hall offers spotless accommodation, its features are well liked by our guests, we offer a fast response and a good service, its a family run business and we are passionate about it. We are so sorry you did not enjoy yourselves.

We've just got home from a stay in Staffield Hall, and what a little gem it is! We stayed for 3 nights in the Lady Tower, the apartment was exceptionally clean, light, well maintained and just as advertised. The fittings are great and keep in tune with Staffield Hall whilst providing great functionality.
Although, we never met Michael and Marie, they were very helpful when we were booking the accommodation and sent through some great emails which set us up for our stay. We found the self check-in very helpful as we arrived fairly late and had no problem connecting to the free wifi.
In fact, we didn't experience any issues at all during our stay and we thoroughly enjoyed using Staffield Hall. We were one of three couples using the Hall but we didn't see a sole hardly when we were there (apart from some red squirrels!) and it was very quiet. Just what we wanted for a relaxing short break away.
It's a fairly short drive into Penrith, and there's a handy little shop close by which sells everything that you could possibly want whilst away.
Overall, we would recommend this stunning place and its surroundings to anyone.
Would we stay again? ABSOLUTELY! :)

Thanks for this lovely review about Staffield Hall - its really perked us all up this morning. We are always so pleased to hear when guests have an enjoyable and memorable time at Staffield Hall. This is what our job is all about, providing the facilities for folks to get away from it all and relax in comfortable accommodation amongst lovely scenery. We enjoy our work and hopefully this shows through when visitors stay with us. As you might have seem we've just been awarded the Trip Advisor award for excellence for 2015. My friend and I stayed at Staffield Hall in the King Oswald apartment to celebrate her birthday. Staffield Hall is very welcoming, well appointed and has amazing grounds. The apartment has everything you need and more and is decorated well with high quality soft furnishings. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed Windermere, Ullswater and visited Lowther Castle.

Can highly recommend the Fox and Pheasant for food .... Very friendly pub but that seems to be the norm in Cumbria.

When we arrived one of the beds hadn't been made up but all was very quickly rectified after a phone call to Michael and the lovely Jackie provided fresh linen.

Can't recommend this place highly enough and can't wait to return

My husband and I took our 8 month old son to Staffield Hall for a 3 night stay in Lady Tower. We were initially taken aback by the beautiful and stunning gardens and landscape and were equally impressed by our apartment. Everywhere was spotless and very well looked after. The owners have done a fantastic job creating such modern apartments, ensuring all characteristics of this beautiful property remain. We spent a day in Windermere (a scenic 1 hour drive) visiting the Beatrix Potter world and then Keswick (40 mins away) taking our little one swimming - water lovely and warm! Overall, a fantastic stay and will definitely be visiting again.
