This is our 3rd visit to the site, this time we booked 1 of the pods, julie and Robert are outstanding hosts and nothing is too much for them, the site is amazingly maintained, soo peaceful with natural sounds of nature.
Due to bad weather the owners gave us an extra Pod so we had more room without any extra charge which was greatly appreciated. The pods are good sized and very warm they come with electric supply, plugs and a heater if needed. The toilets/showers are really well managed and very clean/smelling fresh.
Despite the weather we had an amazing time and will be returning in the near future 100%.
Thanks again for an amazing few nights away. Kids had a great time 2 and loved the honesty shop.

What a stunning locatand site. The pods are amazing hwater inside and plenty of space for double airbed and single cabin bed. no cars next to pitches so no dangers for the kids, plots spaced out toilets showers and wash areas spotless.

Owners are lovely nothing is to much we were met by Robert who brought the kids down on his buggy which was the start of a great holiday for the kids.

Nice park, volley ball net and workshop to entertain the kids.

Silent of a night.
Firepits can be ordered and that really ends the day off nicely

My son has the best birthday celebrating here.

Will definitely be returning as soon as we can.

Firstly I would like to say that the hospitality shown to us was friendly, warm and very welcoming. After choosing to store my caravan at Mains Farm I can say it’s the best choice I have made.

Not only is it a large, open and friendly site it is safe for the children and relaxing for us parents. The pitches are large and clean, plenty of space for my awning and the kids to play openly. The tents, tipis and pods are all modern and offer something different.

The park is a great size and adequate for the kids who spent many an hour on there. From relaxing in the day on-site or at the local pub, to a walk down by the river or to setting the fire pit with a glass of wine at night I was so impressed and felt very comfortable.

The toilets and showers are always clean, there is a wide selection across two sections and I have never had to queue for a hot, warm and clean shower. If your camping there is plenty of washing up facilities so don’t worry..

I have several days booked again every few weeks now till the end of season and we are very much looking forward to good quality family time.

Robert and Julie are fabulous hosts, Robert is always about on his quad bike working on the farm as is full of knowledge. There is a great ice cream can that attends the site and every weekend a quad appears willing local poultry, eggs and milkshakes.

The honesty hut is great, selling great cake, eggs and stuff for the kids all for £1 or so.

For anyone thinking of coming to Mains Farm don’t hesitate, pack a towel and toothbrush, fire logs and some food and enjoy your time away. We do !!

Enjoy, and Thank You

Mains Farm is our favourite campsite and we have returned in our folding camper on several occasions. These are the reasons why:

1.) Robert and Julie work round the clock to ensure that everyone on site is looked after, that we have what we need, and that the site is kept immaculate. They live in the house on site and are always floating around to help with anything needed. As the site and all the land around it is part of their family farm, they are 110% dedicated to keeping things running smoothly.

2.) The site is the most family-friendly and child-friendly we have visited, with a wonderful play area well away from the road and lots of friendly kids around. There are lots of easy walks from the site. The river is just down a path beyond a gate with a little area where you can paddle too.

3.) Facilities are good with lots of hot showers and several washing up areas. There are water points all round the site too. You can rent a fire basket with everything you need for a fire (cash only) and a local farm comes round on a Saturday selling burgers, steaks, bacon etc.

4.) While there isn't a shop on site, there is an 'honesty shop' with a few bits and bobs like marshmallows, farm fresh eggs and homemade cakes. The nearest shop is a CoOp only 5 minutes down the road though.

5.) The area is just beautiful - not too far from the Lake District but not crowded like the Lakes. The site itself is beautiful and peaceful and Penrith is only about a 20 minute drive away.

If you are after a site where you can party all night with your friends, this isn't the site for you... But if you are looking for a safe, friendly and welcoming site to bring your kids or just relax with your dog, then Mains Farm is perfect!

Another wonderful couple of days away at Mains farm. As always Robert and Julie friendly and welcoming and genuinely cannot do enough to make sure their guests have everything they need. Facilities are amazing, clean and comfortable with hot showers, kitchen facilities and when the weather is a typical wet Cumbrian day there is a WiFi room with games for the kids and tables to enjoy a meal. We stayed in the pods and very warm despite how cold it was outside, well insulated with a heater. Thanks again and we can't wait to come back.

Could’ve brought me to tears. After a long long day of riding from Whitehaven, not looking forward to sleeping in my small tent the owner found room for us in one of the teepees and went above and beyond to book us a table at the local pub, where I had one of the best pies I’ve ever had. Needed a great cheering up and this place did more than that. Absolute gem of a person, would wholeheartedly recommend

Mains Farm Campsite is a fantastically maintained, well-equipped and tastefully renovated base from which to explore the glories of the Eden Valley, with many thoughtful touches you wouldn't ordinarily expect from a campsite.
Namely, individual water points for each pitch (really handy) a private sink in every toilet cubicle (these were always clean and there was always enough toilet roll/blue roll/hand soap) and the lovely honesty shop with homemade jams and cakes, eggs, marshmallows and ice. Ice! We're cocktail fans so that was a massive bonus.
The site itself is a patchwork of lush green meadows with wildflowers and river access, abundant birdlife in the hedgerows and neighbouring sheep uninhibited in voicing loud opinions. The 'no music' rule may not be everyone's ideal but this does mean you are more likely to only be woken up by the sounds of nature, making for an authentic experience indeed.
Other desirable features include firepits and fuel which will be dropped off at your pitch daily, pubs within walking distance, the community shop in Kirkoswald with local ice cream and fresh coffee, and many lovely walks along the River Eden. A pair of otters were kind enough to come and gambol about near us outside Lacy's Cave which was definitely a highlight.
A couple of things would make the experience even better: some portaloos in sites furthest from the toilet blocks as these are all in the same area, and a 4 1/2 minute walk at 6am isn't the most relaxing start to the day. Particularly in challenging weather.
And sticking with the relaxation theme, this is a dog-friendly site which is great, though the request for dogs to be kept on leads isn't always adhered to/enforced. It's very hard to explain to some dogs that guarding the toilets from strangers isn't their job, especially when they're on holiday, so being barked/growled at on the 6am 4 1/2 minute walk reduces the relaxation factor even further unfortunately...
Overall however, a wonderful experience and we would definitely return. And camp a bit nearer to the toilets. And bring some dog treats.

Stayed here whilst attending an event in Lazonby (across the river). Campsite owners were lovely and very friendly, Fields were beautifully kept and the on site facilites were spotless. We will definitely stay again if we are in the area.

What a wonderful place!

We booked to stay in the bunkhouse as we had originally planned on camping in Windermere but the weather was awful so we looked at something a bit more comfortable but still with an outside element.
When we arrived we were greeted by the host and he even gave me a tour on the buggy of the whole site - very beautiful surroundings.

They had a little ‘honesty shop’ selling essentials, which is wonderful for people like me who manage to forget to bring things. The kids loved the concept of paying in the box and writing down in the book!

They had an area called the ‘WiFi workshop which was so useful for the kids in the evening as they got to play games in there like dominos and connect4.

The river - the perfect place for a dip in the summer sunshine with stunning views.

The place overall was absolutely wonderful. You know you’re in a fantastic place when the weather is completely miserable but everyone staying there are still having a wonderful time!

We will definitely be returning, maybe to actually camp this time round (weather permitting!)

PS - GET TO THEIR FESTIVAL!

We had 4 nights at Mains Farm and we had an excellent time. We arrived earlier than planned but it was no problem, without prompting Julie (one of the owners) asked if we wanted an extension cable for the electric hook-up. Later whilst putting the tent up in the heat, again she arrived and mentioned they had a room which had internet and was a lot cooler, she took my wife in her vehicle to show her where it was. Nothing was a problem for her and Robert (owner). The facilities were very good and clean, the site was well maintained and the owners were so friendly, this was our 4th visit and certainly will not be our last. The McCarthy Family.

You have a wonderful choice of tent pitches, pods or bunk houses to choose from, facilities are excellent and could be just what you need for first time camping. The play area will certainly entertain your youngest ones, maybe under the watchful eye of your eldest (😀) and you have two fantastic pubs in Kirkoswald and the co-op in Lazonby for supplies. Lazonby has an outdoor heated pool which could be an activity for all the kids. I’d definitely recommend this place, the owners will undoubtedly suggest plenty more activities if you asked.
