We have visited the Lakes for over 30 years. This was the first time in the Eden Valley, also Howscales Cottages. On arrival, we where welcomed by Liz, who made us feel at home. We felt that a lot effect had been put in by Liz and Adrian, regarding the beautiful gardens, and lawns,(which was free to use). The cottage had the kitchen and lounge up stairs, this gave us an emaculate view over the garden and Eden Valley. All facilities from cooker, microwave, toaster, and utensils were in excellent condition, and easy to use. Seating area were comfortable, equally so we're the beds. The property was exceptionally clean. We did have small issue with the shower(water not escaping). This issue was addressed straight away, and problem solved. Really recommend the cottage, and area. Thanks to Liz and Adrian.

Thank you for taking the time to review us - we are so pleased that you were charmed by the cottage, Howscales, and The Eden Valley, top result. The Eden Valley is truly a Cumbrian gem; rural, but with lots a lovely villages, scenic and peaceful, but all within easy distance of The Pennines, Lake District National Park, Scottish Borders and Yorkshire! Howscales itself is a special place, where you feel at home the moment you arrive.

Stayed here with my husband and our dog for a week to celebrate our anniversary. On arrival we were more than pleased with our choice of accommodation. We stayed in a cottage called Hazelrigg which used to be an old milking parlour. What an absolutely beautiful little cottage with everything we could possibly need. The finish was exceptional both inside and out. We had our own private garden area as well as use of the communal gardens as well. The wet room was excellent and the shower was lovely and hot. All of the little touches were lovely too such as really nice locally produced hand wash and hand cream which we have since purchased ourselves. We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked to return again and wouldn’t hesitate on recommending this place.

The quality of accommodation is high, the location is lovely, but I think it’s the thoughtful customer service that marks Howscales out. Rapid response to communication, clear and full pre arrival information, great facilities on site for walkers, cyclists etc, and a good attention to recycling. Not to mention the detailed walk guide!

We stayed at Ravendale Cottage. The cottage is full of quality furniture and excellently stocked cutlery / crockery and all kinds of cooking stuff. Lovely homemade shortbread and tea / coffee milk etc supplied - a nice touch for your arrival. Great facilities to exercise dogs (The Fethestone Arms, one of the local pubs, was also very dog friendly and although we didnt eat there, the food and menu looked great). There is a communal room for washing clothes that is also stocked with DVDs and games. Also, I have never seen so many pheasants in my life!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, much appreciated. We are so pleased that you liked the cottage, and all that Howscales offers. I am also relived that you liked the hone-made shortbread biscuits! We do have a lot of pheasants around at this time of year, I just wish they had more road sense!!

We had a wonderful week at Howscales. The cottage was immaculately clean but very welcoming. The bed was so comfy and the showers were amazing - hot water anytime of day. Dogs were made to feel very welcome and there were name tags with Howscales and Liz's phone number on to pop on the collars, such a good idea. We all enjoyed the welcoming shortbread :)

This was our 5th visit to Howscales Cottages. Hazelrigg is a cosy, comfortable and very well equipped cottage catering for two on one level. There is a private garden area as well as a large communal area which is dog friendly with additional seated areas. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with stunning views, we also had several trips into the Lake District. We enjoyed eating out at The Fethers in Kirkoswold which is dog friendly. Liz and Adrian are friendly welcoming hosts and we look forward to going back.

Our 4th year of coming to Howscales and as always a warm welcome from Liz and Adrian. The cottage Ravendale was perfect for our family (2+4 kids) a great base to explore the lakes and also to explore the surroundings of Howscales which our kids loved doing. The guest area that is provided was also a firm favourite with games and toys providing hours of entertainment. One key thing was the sustainability and eco friendly approach Liz and Adrian offer which we love.
We will see you both next year!

We’ve been to Howscales lots of times and knew that for a big family birthday Liz and Adrian would make it the perfect break. The cottages (we rented them all for the weekend) were immaculate as always, ultra dog and child friendly, and Liz struck the perfect balance between being attentive and giving us privacy for our holiday. The bottle of pink fizz in the fridge to mark my big date was a lovely touch. Howscales never disappoints.

I cannot rate this beautiful, peaceful and relaxing place higher
This is the 3rd visit, that should tell you everything.
Liz and Adrian, the hosts, are brilliant.
We stayed in Inglewood, a 2 bed cottage. Spotlessly clean, the most amazing beds. The private garden was huge, our dogs loved it. When you arrive there is a dog bowl, a towel, dog treats and poo bags and in the fridge milk, greatfully received. There is also a beautiful communal garden for guests.
If you don't have dogs it doesn't matter, equally enjoyable.
I love the recycling ethos, and by the way the recycling bins fill up I think everyone agrees.
We will be back, again and again, that should tell you everything.....repeating myself 😉
Great value for money in the 100% best holiday residence I've ever stayed in.
VISIT!
Book, visit, enjoy.

Our 1st visit to Howscales, we stayed in Geltsdale cottage with our scruffy ole dog for a week. Liz & Adrian greeted us on our arrival, very lovely people, & Liz does make a rather good gluten free flap jack. Our home for the week was very clean bright modern comfortable, and I didn't want to go home. We enjoyed the well kept garden and apples straight from the trees, as well as picking fresh herbs on our doorstep. Lovely circular walks on our doorstep & along the Raven's Beck (feeds into the river Eden) into Kirkoswald & back via road was worth braving the drizzle for. Location wise was perfect to. We visited Hadrians wall & visited a Damn, exploring the dales & having a pint at Tan hill. Walking to Long Meg & her daughters (the field was full of cows) we meandered along to Laceys caves & the abandoned gypsum works. We would love to visit Howscales again & highly recommend to everyone. A very enjoyable experience. Thank you to Liz & Adrian.
