Detailed Reviews
We paid $90 for the room which was small and oldish, but adequate with bathroom, tea coffee , fridge and toaster.
The owners were really nice! We actually thought we would be staying in the gorgeous old pub but the rooms are next door.
Now to the meal! Fabulous!!! My schnitzel was huge but so tender, nice chips salad. The garlic bread was delish. Nachos was good too. Lovely wines by the glass. A lot of atmosphere here!

Situated in the perfect little town of Melrose The Mt Remarkable Hotel was a pleasant surprise. Melrose prides itself as the oldest town in the Flinders Rnages and it's history is evident in this pub built in 1857.
We stopped in for a drink (ended up having two) and we were greeted with the small outback town hospitality you would cherish to find. Friendly banter and a cosy warm fire made for the perfect afternoon .
We enjoyed that ourselves so much we came back a couple days later for dinner and we weren't disappointed!
I wise chef once said to me you can judge a pub's cook on how well they do a steak. If what she says is true their chef is brilliant. It was a busy night and our meals came out quickly and my scotch fillet was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The salads were fresh, the kids meals were great and we left with a takeaway container full of what we just couldn't finish. This place is fantastic and apparently has just changed hands, if our experience is anything to go by, their friendly and welcoming staff will be bringing people here over and over again.

Stayed for 1 night with dinner and and then returned for dinner on trip home. Helen is really friendly. Meals were great value for money and very tasty - we had snitzels and shanks. Make sure you try the local wine, Bartgunya, the Shiraz was a nice drop. The accommodation was as expected for price with comfy bed and hot shower.

Friendly owners doing renovations at the moment to both the pub and accomodations. The ensuite room I had for 3 nights was very clean. I don’t mind that it was old and is yet to have its renovation. Tidy and compact I managed to use the small table as a desk when I needed to. Lots of power points helped me. The air-conditioner worked perfectly in Room 3 during this weeks heatwave. I would stay again in future.

What a remarkable hotel! I stayed with a group of friends in Melrose for 5 nights and it was so lovely to have a pub like this one to come back to after some tough days of hiking. Dave & Liz were extremely welcoming with the kind of hospitality that is so rare. The food was amazing too - I highly recommend the schnitty! A big shout out to Teagan, what a legend! Hope to get back there some time in the near future. Keep up the great work guys!

Simple modest older motel rooms next door to simple pub.
Clean and comfortable with excellent cafe next door in petrol station for great value breakfast.
Also recommend a drive up Hancocks Lane to the look out over Spencer Gulf.
We used this as a good value stop over enroute from Coober Pedy to Goolwa, then on via Victor Harbour to Kangaroo Island. Higher standard rooms & dining is available at over double the cost at the heritage Melrose North Star Hotel.

Obviously new management, the last visit the food was old style good pub grub.
This time I can only describe it as disgusting , what a load of rubbish.
We should have listened to some of the other patrons and walked out before paying .
I’ve been in hospitality for 40 years and have never had a worse experience.
Let’s hope they move on ASAP , book at the North Star well in advance as it’s the only edible food in town .

During the recent flood event , 200 cyclists got washed out of their tents and stranded in Melrose.
The publican was so generous , some of us got offered floor space and they went out of their way to make us as comfortable as possible . Under trying circumstances (no power for 24 hours) they still managed to produce some fine food and great hospitality.
Thank you so much for all you did. maggie and bruce Taree NSw

My husband and I stayed at Melrose last Friday night on our way to Wilpena Pound. We visited the top pub "the Northern Star" for a late afternoon drink. It is very impressive to look at and worth a visit. We went to the bottom pub "Mount Remarkable" for dinner as we were staying in the cabins there. Cabins cheap, very very basic but clean. The pub itself is a little tired and very "pub by" which I like. However, I order a chicken schnitzel for tea and it is the best chicken schnitzel I have ever had and I have had a few. It was tasty juicy and the home made crumb was sensational. A rememberer!!! The vege bar allowed a good choice of vegies and they too were very tasty. We were treated to country hospitality and had a wonderful night chatting to locals and other tourists.
