Built in the 1880s Meaney’s Rest is one of the oldest residential dwellings in Hawker. The original interior stonework highlighted by LED down lights reflects the majestic colours of the surrounding cliff faces within the local area. The original kitchen has been transformed into a relaxing outdoor room adjoining the barbecue area, with original fireplace and pressed tin ceilings. Even though the building is 1880's vintage, it maintains all modern amenities including an upgraded kitchen, bathroom with spa and modern furnishings. Free high speed wifi, games console (retro Nintendo), Google Home devices and numerous streaming services, including foxtel can help you while away the time if you so choose. Meaney's Rest is central to all facilities including the Geoff Morgan art gallery and its famous panorama, Gerneral Store, Hawker Motors and local community gym. Spacious and comfortable this historic home is the perfect getaway to enjoy the magnificent Flinders Ranges.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such a home away from home. Every item in the home...this is not a 'house' has been thought out and provided. From the wonderful beds and linen to the accoutrements in the kitchen, all stocked and provided.
On top of two chauffeured visits to the Flinders Ranges area, subject to another review... this stay at Meaney's was a wonderful, relaxing and dare I say...indulgent holiday and a great base to explore the Flinders Ranges from.

The place is amazing. This is our second visit and it’s absolute perfection. Everything is here I mean everything - from ice bucket, breakfast goodies, tea bags to coffee galore. Love the sheets, bedding, they even have bath robes for you and the towels are so soft. It’s less than a 2 minute walk to cafe, gallery and most importantly the local pub. I can’t speak highly enough - every little detail is perfection - just need to work out when our next visit is 🤩🤩

We stayed 3 nights at this amazing accommodation making it our base to explore the Flinders Ranges and surrounding areas. The house was clean and comfortable and so relaxing to return to after a day of adventuring. Kevin and Vicki were great hosts and made sure we had everything we needed and more. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

We have just enjoyed five nights of comfort at Meaney’s Rest with our three young children and fully agree with all the glowing reviews that have come before us. We appreciated the warmth, well equipped kitchen and comfy beds after exploring this beautiful part of the world in chilly winds. The hosts have thought of everything to make your holiday relaxing. We recommend the short hike up Policeman’s Hill to star gaze.

OMG we didnt want to leave. The house was so comfortable and clean. It has all the modern conveniences but still the charm of its 1880 history. We loved the personal touches that were supplied for us to enjoy. Meaney’s is in a great quiet location & within easy walking distance to all conveniences in Hawker. Kevin, Vicki & Barbara were a pleasure to deal with. We will certainly stay here again in the future.

What a find in Hawker. The family who own this have really focused on the charm of its 1880 history, its apparently one of or the first home built in Hawker. Barb is an absolute delight and was so friendly and helpful. The home is sparkling clean and has everything you need to have an enjoyable stay right in the heart of the Flinders Ranges. Definitely returning....

We loved our stay at Meaney’s Rest. Both owner Kevin and manager Vicki went above and beyond, literally saving us as we couldn’t get there due to road flooding! Beyond the exceptional service and communication, we would stay there again just based on the great accommodation. Everything was thought of, with lots of quirky and great touches. Beds were comfortable, fully stocked kitchen, close to an amazing restaurant and lots of space. Will be recommending this place to anyone who is going to the Flinders.

The cottage was centrally positioned just around the corner from the Hawker Hotel, grocery and Jeff Morgan's gallery. Beds were comfortable and the cottage was clean and well presented. Great base for exploring the Flinders Ranges.

From the minute I communicated with the owner to book this I had high hopes for what we would find and my goodness I was not disappointed. Absolutely amazing. We were met by a lovely lady to give us keys and show us around this beautiful 150 year old stone cottage. Beautifully preserved and clean, but also they have managed to combine every modern convenience possible. From the google box in every room to the gigantic televisions, and heating in every room. Everything as clean as a whistle. I could go on but imagine your perfect home from home with everything you could have imagined provided and more!!! Wish we could have stayed longer the rest of our trip will never live up to Meaneys, and at an affordable price. Thanks so much

We absolutely loved our stay at Meaney’s Rest. It was extremely warm and cosy, a perfect place to come back to each day after exploring the Flinders Ranges. Especially after being fortunate enough to experience both seeing and playing with snow up through Wilpena Pound. Vicki was such a welcoming host. The house is very spacious, plenty of room for a family with teenagers. Looking forward to staying there again. Would highly recommend it! Thank you once again Kevin and Vicki.

Hi. A very simple breakfast in included. A 2 Litres carton of fresh milk is left for your use. There is instant coffee, Nespresso coffee pods (various strengths), 5 or so types of tea and a packet of biscuits. A loaf of bread for toast is supplied as well as a number of spreads/jams.
