Built in the 1880s Meaney’s Rest is one of the oldest residential dwellings in Hawker. The original interior stonework highlighted by LED down lights reflects the majestic colours of the surrounding cliff faces within the local area. The original kitchen has been transformed into a relaxing outdoor room adjoining the barbecue area, with original fireplace and pressed tin ceilings. Even though the building is 1880's vintage, it maintains all modern amenities including an upgraded kitchen, bathroom with spa and modern furnishings. Free high speed wifi, games console (retro Nintendo), Google Home devices and numerous streaming services, including foxtel can help you while away the time if you so choose. Meaney's Rest is central to all facilities including the Geoff Morgan art gallery and its famous panorama, Gerneral Store, Hawker Motors and local community gym. Spacious and comfortable this historic home is the perfect getaway to enjoy the magnificent Flinders Ranges.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a beautifully furnished historic house with all mod cons and a safe undercover spot for your car. It is an easy walk from the general store, a great cafe and round the corner from the main road into Kara-Flinders NP.

The place is amazing. This is our second visit and it’s absolute perfection. Everything is here I mean everything - from ice bucket, breakfast goodies, tea bags to coffee galore. Love the sheets, bedding, they even have bath robes for you and the towels are so soft. It’s less than a 2 minute walk to cafe, gallery and most importantly the local pub. I can’t speak highly enough - every little detail is perfection - just need to work out when our next visit is 🤩🤩

The cottage was centrally positioned just around the corner from the Hawker Hotel, grocery and Jeff Morgan's gallery. Beds were comfortable and the cottage was clean and well presented. Great base for exploring the Flinders Ranges.

What an awesome place to stay. Location in the middle of town easy walking distance to the pub, cafe and general store. The house is beautifully restored and better equipped than my own house. Every time we thought we needed something that wasn’t there we were wrong. Exceptionally clean and comfortable, spacious and hot, hot water. So many small things extra touches. No idea how they knew what my favourite chocolates are. Great value for money.

Fantastic home to stay in. Amenities were so good. Either eat in or check the flinders food co. Which we did a few times as well as the Hawker pub. This home has everything you need. Thanks Kevin and Vicki for looking after us so well. Had such great sleeps in beautiful beds.

There are only good things to say about the accommodation, the hosts and the location. It is spotlessly clean, spacious, extremely comfortable and has all the amenities you could wish for and many more. Great outdoor area as well. Hawker is a great central base from which to explore the Flinders.

Meaneys rest is the most convenient, comfortable and reasonably priced accommodation in Hawker. We loved staying here. The B&B is spacious and clean. It had entertainment to keep the little ones preoccupied and was thoughtfully decorated with easter bunnies on our stay. The B&B is close to shops, petrol, gallery and playground. It’s a few minutes to lookouts and reasonable drive to see the Flinders ranges. So definitely the best out there! The owners are responsive and accommodating too. Will definitely be recommending to friends. Thanks so much, Kevin, Vicki and Barbara. ‘Til next time!

We stayed 3 nights at this amazing accommodation making it our base to explore the Flinders Ranges and surrounding areas. The house was clean and comfortable and so relaxing to return to after a day of adventuring. Kevin and Vicki were great hosts and made sure we had everything we needed and more. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Can’t say enough great things about Meaney’s Rest. Firstly Kevin, Vicki and Barb were all lovely and so nice to talk to. We booked directly through the website and Kevin was very prompt with his replies and gave us a great deal … I would suggest booking directly with him. We booked for 2 nights but extended to 4 because we loved it so much. The house itself is absolutely loaded with all the extras to the absolute max … you could host a dinner party with all of the kitchenware. A huge TV with loads and loads of channels and streaming services, a much welcomed laundry, very comfy beds, secure yard (if you have a pet), a jukebox and a very old phone to confuse all millennials. The bathroom has all the little extras and fluffy towels. The house was spotlessly clean and the very eclectic layout gives the house a lovely sense of comfort and warmth … we just loved it here. Kevin has gone to a lot of trouble to make the instructions for any devices easy enough for any baby boomer to use like a pro and we left there thinking we cannot go another day without the trusty ‘hey google’ device. It was clear to us that Kevin has travelled a lot and knows what little extras really count with people and has delivered. The level of care and pride and friendliness we experienced from Barb, Vicki and Kevin means we will be back for sure and I would have no hesitation in recommending Meaney’s Rest to anyone.

What a find in Hawker. The family who own this have really focused on the charm of its 1880 history, its apparently one of or the first home built in Hawker. Barb is an absolute delight and was so friendly and helpful. The home is sparkling clean and has everything you need to have an enjoyable stay right in the heart of the Flinders Ranges. Definitely returning....
