We stayed in a Brachina room. It was clean and comfortable and close to the restaurant. We went on a half day 4 wheel drive tour hosted by Mick. It was fantastic. Mick showed us around the beautiful country, pointing out many amazing secrets that only the locals and geologists would know about. Amazing views. And Mick is a really top bloke.
Sadly the sandwiches sold here in SA are made in QLD ! I asked the staff if they were aware and was told that's just the way we do it. We all like to support the local tourism but if they can't support the locals or the environment I will avoid spending anymore money here.
Room looked like it hadn't been vacuumed, there were bits on the floor included a rolled up tissue. The sofa and cushions were stained. The decor is very tired and ugly, the curtains didn't fit and we had an outside light shining in all night. The bathroom looked like a prison cell although the shower was very good. The bed was uncomfortable - too hard and not padded. My meal was overcooked - having asked for it to be medium rare. The staff appeared disinterested. Not much positive to say really! This is so disappointing given Wilpena itself is an amazing place and a big tourist destination.
Checked into our room and it smelled a bit musty when first opened up. The first clue that all wasn't as it should be was the pubic hair sitting on the painted toilet seat, from the previous occupant! The room looked and felt very dated and poorly maintained, some cupboard doors were hanging off their hinges, and one bedside drawer had a handle missing. One bedside light blew when it was turned on. The shower recess was dirty and mouldy, and had a shower curtain!!! The bathroom fan was so noisy we couldn't use it. The tiny fridge was off and falling off its footing, no milk supplied and no toaster supplied and no comfortable chairs or lounge, only three plastic kitchen chairs. This place is supposed to be a "Resort", we've stayed in better motels with far better facilities for much less cost, yes I know "distance, freight blah blah blah" this is not an excuse. This place is not how a resort presents itself, I would be totally embarrassed if I were the manager and presented these facilities for paying guests.…
A great base to explore the Flinders. Resort looking a bit tired but hey, we only slept in the room as was out all day. Took the food and accommodation option to make it easier for us. There is no lacking in variety and the servings are huge. Well done to chef and staff. Sat around outside fire a couple of times, great way to meet people. All staff were very nice and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and the Flinders. Makes you remember how good your own backyard is!
