Detailed Reviews
Interestingly we built and started Aldgate Lodge in 1986 and it was popular from the start for its unique Log Cabin charm. Rustic but with all the cottage charm and elegance of a bygone era. Perfumed paraffin antique lamps were lit romantically for guests' return after dinner. Mint Chocolate Bilbys from the Cottage Chocolate Factory in Murray Bridge were placed on their turned back beds, a sprig of lavender or a perfumed long stem rose from the cottage garden was placed on their pillow. We removed wet towels from their bathrooms and replaced with fluffy dry ones. Bathrobes were always supplied. Full cooked gourmet (we were chosen to get a hat in the Michelins guide to good food and accommodation)Breakfast was served either in their suites , on the balcony or in the breakfast room on antique blue willow china. International guests were as prominent as locals, from plumbers apprentices, News journalists from around the world, Politicians to visiting famous Orchestral conductors. We hardly ever had a vacancy, we sold it 1994 to have time to live our own lives after sharing the wonderful such wonderful people from all over the world. We were indeed rich with sweet memories of the many people who had enriched out lives. Aldgate Lodge was our University Degree of Life ! I trust the current owners enjoy it as much as we did.

Thank you Maz and John for making our special family day so wonderful. We recently enjoyed a small wedding in the Aldgate Lodge garden. It was the perfect setting ! Maz and John put a lot of care into preparing their beautiful garden to suit our needs. They thought of everything to enhance the day, setting out a little table for signing the certificate, chairs for the guests and a cake/tea and coffee area for after the ceremony. The weather was fine and the spectacular camellia blossoms added a romantic touch ! Even birds played a part with a kookaburra and blue wren coming to visit.
The happy couple enjoyed a relaxing stay in the Lodge and were delighted on arrival to find in their lovely room a special platter made to suit their dietary requirements.
Maz and John are very welcoming people and their attention to detail made our experience a very memorable one.

Thankyou Maz and John for a lovely 4 night stay. Adriaan and I had a ball even though I was sick. There are lovely gardens around the lodge. The breakfasts were lovely. The room was very homey and comfortable. The welcome fruit platter was delicious. We didn't utilise spa as I was sick but they have a lovely size spa. If your looking for a peaceful retreat stay here :)

We were looking for a place to just chill out and this fit the bill. Decor is a bit dated - think cherubs and lace and fake flowers - but the bed is comfy! the heater/airconditioner is very noisy so it is annoying if you are trying to watch the television. The pillows are too hard. Breakfast is OK. The guest lounge is comfortable and warm. The lodge is located within walkiing distance to the shops at Aldgat. The gardens are lovely and the whole place met our need for a chill-out time.

They had a lovely location, absolutely gorgeous gardens, and very neat and tidy rooms. The owners are also very kind and friendly! They made sure that we always had everything that we needed and they were very accommodating to our vegan diet.
The rooms are warm and cozy, there are stunning gardens right out the door, and the bathroom is amaaazing! (They have a spa in there!) Staying with them was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend them!

We were looking for somewhere to get away for one night on the long weekend in June in the Adelaide hills. This place was perfect for what we were looking for. Very affordable, clean and the bed was extremely comfortable (something that is hard to find might I add). I must admit the corner spa wasn't the best as there are no bubble underneath and the jets are not very powerful but while relaxing in there with the complimentary bottle of bubbles and an antipasto platter the lodge had arranged in the fridge, was exactly what we both needed. Before our spa we also enjoyed drinking port while watching tv and flicking through some mags in front of the wood fire in the lounge area was perfect. It is only about 30mins from the city but yet you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere and the gardens are just beautiful. Then to top it off we had breakfast in bed the next morning (I cant even tell you how long it has been since we had done this) but having breakfast brought to your door on a massive platter just called for it. The service was amazing and loved the place and would come back for sure.
