Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Room was clean neat and tidy. Meal was simple and delicious, they were busy and wait time was more then expected. I had to eat my meal with my fingers as no cutlery is provided in the room. Level of service was poor.

We were tired and needed somewhere to stay - the motel was booked out but they had vacancies in the cabins. These overlook the river in a pleasant setting and are quite well set out although rather over-priced compared to similar places - however as there is no other accommodation in the town, they have the monopoly. It would have been better had we not had to walk through to check them out past the extremely smelly garbage bins at the back of the hotel though. All in all, an expensive but relatively satisfactory night. I do have to add that the woman on reception was definitely not a friendly sort of person but perhaps that is her character.

For years I have passed through Theodore, I prefer the traffic on the secondary roads, and have friends to visit around central Queensland. I have wanted to stop over in Theodore and the Hotel has the only accommodations in town, including budget rooms, Motel rooms and cabins on the river. They have always been full. On this occasion was lucky and not only did they have a vacancy but (as I was on holidays with a loose schedule) managed to spend a couple days checking out the river/waterways and taking photos. I look forward to the next time I can organise a stop over. By the way, they have a wonderful choice of those little amenities soap, certainly not the cheapest on the market. The staff was polite and attentive, and the meals although a simple menu. excellent cuts expertly prepared. Plenty of bird life and a very quiet corner of the world,

Very basic but clean and comfortable cabins with view of Dawson River. Over-priced for what is offered by comparison with cabins throughout Australia. Cabins also seem to be slightly too close together. Reception not all that welcoming / friendly or informative - but not unfriendly either. Good pub meals at night & reasonably priced. Young waitstaff for dining areas were excellent in their roles. Seems to be mostly workers staying in all the types of accommodation. Would not recommend that any tourists stay there on a Saturday night. After 10pm the workers let loose for a few hours with drunken foul language, fights & yelling all around the grounds of the accommodation & nearby streets - impossible to sleep through it, especially when it is just outside your bedroom window. Hotel is quite beautiful and has tropical appearance from street view.

Stayed 1 night on a trip of western QLD. Wide range of well presented accommodation. Lovely grounds and cabins over looking the Dawson River. Restaurant offers a sophisticated menu for an rural pub at reasonable prices. Customer service some of the best we experienced on the trip. Thanks Trish & staff.

I have family in the area so am a semi-regular visitor to Theodore and always enjoy staying in the riverside cabins at Hotel Theodore. The cabins are a good size, the bedding is comfortable, the kitchen is well provisioned and the deck is a wonderful spot to sit overlooking the river. There are a few things that could be done to spruce the place up and add to the experience. Inside, a lounge would be more comfortable than the wicker chairs, space to put toiletries in the bathroom would be useful, as would a larger fridge. Outside on the deck - and this is where I imagine people will spend most time - it would be good to see a new outdoor setting, perhaps a hammock or something similar. Benches in the garden near the river and a BBQ area for guests I'm sure would get plenty of use.

We stayed in a cabin which is situated beside the Dawson River. It is a nice spot with well maintained gardens. Cabin was disappointing for the $160 price for 2 per night. Beds and linen are quite good but seating in living area is uncomfortable. Could do with a couch. Floor coverings need replacing and it needs some places to put things, eg. In bathroom nowhere to put toiletries. Water pressure is quite poor but that may be due to rural location. Cabin could do with complete redecoration to be worthy of its price tag.

On my first trip down the Leichhardt Highway, I couldn't resist this classic 1940s hotel in a quaint, palm tree lined street next to the river. Our motel room was recently built or renovated, roomy, with comfortable bedding and a good bathroom. Family cabins looked spacious, with verandahs overlooking the river. Everything is well-organised and well-maintained. Ate dinner on the terrace out the front. No wifi, because the signal is not strong enough in this small town, which must be inconvenient for them, but we used our phones to connect to the internet.

We stayed in a 2br cabin overlooking the river and had a great night. The beds were comfortable and we ate in the hotel where the food was really good; spaghetti bol, sticky date pudding and scotch made for a relaxing night. We sat out on the verandah and watched the river. The rain was falling, which was glorious and while we enjoyed that we noticed a small echidna puddling around by the river bank! The unit was well set up with everything that you'd need for cooking and good toiletries in the bathroom too. Blinds were good quality for blocking out sun if it was required. An excellent spot that I'd thoroughly recommend; we'll be back! Staff were really helpful too.

Not the greatest evening. Ordered kids meals to come now and we would wait for our friends to order the adult meals. One hour and twenty minutes later no kids meals, when questioned apparently it was a breakdown down in communication, no refund or apologies. All other meals over cooked and/or came with the wrong sides. Won't be rushing back that's for sure. It's a pity because the place looks to have potential.
