Apart from the roadhouse this was the only place to get an evening meal. The staff were friendly and brought the meals to the table. Our meals arrived very quickly. Our beef schnitzels were big, well cooked and came with a large varied salad and a big serve of crisp chips. The setting was basic with a bare table, cutlery wrapped in serviette and TV going (but not too loudly).

This was an experience out of the ordinary; A dusty little village consisting only of a few houses in the middle of nowhere. The village is known mainly because the explorer Leichhardt cut his name in a tree there before the village existed. The Leichhardt Hotel Motel is the combination of a motel, a restaurant, a pub, and a drive through off-license. The staff consists of members of the same family and they were all very serviceminded and friendly. Even the dog was friendly... The rooms are placed in separate bungalows behind the pub. They were clean and without much additional furniture apart from a table and a few chairs. Breakfast was served to the room in the morning. The steaks served in the 'restaurant' part of the pub are gigantic (seen from a European viewpoint at least) and the atmosphere in the pub very very local. Nearly like stepping into a road movie...

Stayed here for a night whilst driving through town for work. As I was tired I thought I would stop and this was one of only 2 available places in Taroom. The price was very cheap and the rooms showed why. As the rooms are right next to the pub, you can expect to be awoken by the pub fights outside around 11pm. The rooms were clean enough, but to be honest, driving another 100k to Theodore will find you at a much cleaner place.
They do have cabins, but they were all booked out on my visit and perhaps they would be better than the motel rooms.

We had driven past the pub on a few occasions but this time stayed in the local caravan park so we could go for lunch. Best decision ever. The service was amazing, the drinks very reasonably priced, the amenities were spotless but that 300gm rump steak was cooked to perfection. Both of us have different preferences for steak and both were spot on. We were there right on lunch time and the kitchen was busy and we still only waited about 25 mins. We will come back just to have lunch.

Stayed in room 11 and on arrival I found blood splashing on the top sheet. This was changed when I brought it to the notice of the cleaners. The carpet was badly stained in a lot of places and needs a good clean. The fridge was really small, I don't think they come any smaller. Curtains need replacing as they don't block the light out. It could do with a light above the bed too.

Greeted and helped by very friendly, can’t do enough for you, staff. The food was amazing. The room was warm and the bed very comfortable. Pillows were abit firm for us, but hey, I usually travel with my own, but forgot it this trip. No big deal. Congratulations to Scott and his team. Very welcoming.

Rang and booked a room. Drove 150km to get there only to be told that they had looked at the wrong night and there were no rooms. Didn't give a damn that I had no where to sleep. Couldn't have cared less. Will never go near that place again.

What a great spot for a stop-over when travelling from Brisbane to Rockhampton or Emerald. The rooms are comfortable and warm (it gets down to zero overnight), The bistro gives you a good choice at reasonable prices and the bar staff are friendly. Set close to the river Taroom is a small clean country town well worth a visit and the road from Miles to Banana (named after a big yellow bull) is a very pleasant drive.

Arrived on dark only 2 motels in town and chose the wrong one. We chose the "executive suite " and I think I will be traumatised by this description for a long time. It was over rated and over priced. The lady who checked us in was as friendly as " a mother in-laws breath". Do yourself a favor and choose the other one or drive on.

The standard room of 2 single beds was $90.00 per night and the executive room a "double bed " was $120.00 a night. The use of the word executive will never be the same to me again. These are extremely basic rooms.
There are more places to choose from in the Taroom area.
